OXO Good Grips Potato Masher - Smooth

I found this masher a worthwhile purchase. I use it for potato mashing only.The problem with many mashers on the market, is that the masher part is far too thick. This in turn makes it rather hard to remove those last little pieces of delicious mashed pototo and also makes it harder to clean easily. This model is perfect.Some reviewers have complained about the units vertical legs collapsing. I was looking for a masher I could use despite having rheumatoid arthritis and peripheral neuropathy, and this one is perfect. Its nicely made with no sharp bits and it washes really well, but more than that it makes the exercise of mashing anything potatoes, butternut squash, carrots, whatever you are wanting to squish, a much easier exercise than it had been before with my conventionally shapeddesigned mashers. It takes a lot of the effort out of the wrist, and the orientation of the grip makes it much easier to work with, I am only wondering why it took me so long to realise I needed this gadget in my kitchen. Comfortable

Got this on offer for ?9 instead of ?12. I think that is still a bit too steep a price for a masher but it has at least been good. Having a horizontal handle to push down is much more comfortable than my old masher that was just a vertical stick to hold. Mine has shown no signs of bending like some other reviewers have experienced but I normally break the spuds up to small chunks with a knife as I mix butter in before mashing.

Excellent Product

This is a great masher. It gets the job done quickly. Easy to clean. Very easy to grip, I have arthritis in my fingers, so this is important to me. A great product, worth every penny. Highly recommend.

I've had mine for years and my daughter bought one when she left home. Just bought another for a friend who wanted to know where I'd got mine. Gives great downward pressure. Works well for potato, carrots, swede.

Fantastic masher

I bought one of these for myself and when my adult daughter saw me using it and saw the results it produced she had 'masher envy'. It's so easy and comfortable to use, because the handle is horizontal you can get a better/firmer grip which results in smoother mashed potatoes. Much better than a conventional masher with a vertical handle.

Good sturdy masher

I bought this for mashing swede, as the usual plastic things just aren't up to the job. This is perfect. Really sturdy and it goes in the dishwasher. Good quality for a reasonable price.Would recommend.

Not a smooth mashed potatoes

This was just ok. The holes make it so the final result is not creamy and smooth. You are still left with little clumps of potato, however it did its job well. For those saying the handle bent, I assume their potatoes weren't cooked well, cause this is quite sturdy and didn't bend at all on me while making 10lbs of potatoes. So just make sure you cook your potatoes very well and it will be fine.

The best masher ever!

This is our second, a replacement of a slightly different design. This one is definite improvement on the previous. But it does the job without too much effort. It's pricier than most standard mashers but it's worth it, our previous one was at least 6 years old.

I had fallen out of love with my old masher and bought this product on the strength of the two 5 star reviews and the fact that I have other OXO products I like. I originally awarded 3 stars because it's light, easy to use and does what it's supposed to do. It lost two stars because I found it easily deformed from its square configuration. The rigidity of the product could be improved without compromising on weight. However, adopting a technique of 'screwing' the masher into the potato instead of 'plunging' up and down vertically I now feel it could last longer than I originally expected. I still feel the price tag of ?12 is somewhat steep for a product that was probably pressed out for pennies in China so it's not getting the full five stars from me.
