OXO Good Grips - Poultry Shears

I generally like all OXO products. But a good pair of kitchen shears is a must have. Cuts through a rack of ribs and makes spatchcock chicken or turkey a breeze! They can be put in the dishwasher after use. I have had mine for several years now and they are still sharp.

Best Poultry Shears EVER

Purchased these for my husband who complained about how difficult it was to cut through turkey bones. I gave these to him as a surprise, the day before Thanksgiving, and he was thrilled. He said they are the best he's ever used for cutting poultry bones. When the chef is happy, everyone eats well! ;-)

Excellent Shears for food prep.

I've always used our "kitchen scissors" to to cut open food and trim fat off of our food. I then scrubbed those crazy clean every time. No more need for that. I love having a dedicated pair of shears that I only use for food.These OXO Poultry Shears are the first poultry (or any food type) of shears I've ever used and they are awesome. I used them recently to trim the fat off of a pork roast and it was so easy and it came out great.They are very sharp and have a perfect angle.Biggest win comes when you try to wash them. A small hand screw in the middle allows you to take the 2 pieces apart and really clean them well. The plastic snap on the bottom keeps them closed when not in use and makes them very safe.I would highly recommend.

Fantastic!

These are the kitchen shears I didn't know I needed until I bought them. I had a regular pair of kitchen scissors for years which I was happy with, but when they broke lashed out on these. I would never go back to the others now. I love the pull apart to clean feature and the spring loaded grip and serrated edge makes jobs quick, precise and easy.

Not effective then broke

Using to cut up chicken, whole fish (like mackerel, not too big) boneless meat like pork loin or beef hearts. As a professional automotive tech for over 30 years I understand the mechanics of things. I could tell they started to splay apart after a couple of weeks, most people would say they were no longer sharp. They are sharp, its that the blades no longer line up and stay tight enough to cut well, chicken skin just slides through. They did fall apart quite a bit but now, after maybe 3 months of use that 2 months have been a struggle, the tension spring fell out and you can see it was just glued in place. I am very familiar with adhesives. What a poor design.

Valuable addition to the kitchen

Great speciality kitchen scissors. I haven't used on poultry but it makes a big difference to prepping garden beans for cooking/freezing dueto the 'spring'. It is the tool I wish I knew about and sooner. Absolutely recommend.

Wear have you been my whole life!

I have been a lifetime scratch cook. I have been using whole chicken in my recipes for years as an economical way to feed the household. This tool is so easy to use and cuts right through the back ribs of a chicken so that you can remove the backbone. Use the chicken this way for a spatchcock recipe, or continue to cut the rest of the chicken into four or eight pieces easily. I have arthritis in both hands and it is increasingly painful and unsafe for me to use a knife for this task. They are pretty much magic in my opinion!

Works Great!

I spatchcock (butterfly) my Thanksgiving turkey because it allows it to roast very quickly and with a beautiful crispy, golden skin. I always had a VERY difficult time removing the backbone of my 14 1/2 pound birds, using regular kitchen shears. I would end up using a combination of tools, as well as recruiting help from other family members. After reading a good review of the OXO Poultry Shears, I purchased a pair for this year's bird. It was the best money I ever spent! Just a little over $20 after coupon. It was so easy to cut out the backbone, it almost brought me to tears! I was amazed! And the shears come apart for easy cleaning. This was my first time using them, am not sure how long they will last, so am giving 4 stars for quality for now.

with their serrated blades and easy dismantling they make a good and efficient tool (although somewhat dangerous if one isn't concentrating!). however, after a few months the little spring blade that separates the handles broke (it probably needed to be stronger judging by the plastic that held it in place). i, therefore, fell it needs some more research before reproduction, as with most items nowadays .......

wouldn't buy again

These shears worked great for the first few months and I found them to be sharp and easy on my hands when cutting chicken. We only hand wash them and take great care to keep them in shape. Then, despite our efforts, they started sticking. I would have to use both hands to open the blades back up only to have them stick again once they were squeezed shut. Even after cleaning the set does this dry and I don't even think I could use them to cut a tortilla. It's sad because I usually trust OXO products for quality and durability.
