I had my original brush for many years. I am glad I was able to purchase this product again. I would definitely recommend this brush and all of oxo products. I use it on soaking my wedding cakes down as well as putting bbq sauce on my meats. I love that it can withstand 600 F. Unlike the natural brushes they burn when using near heat. What I like about this that it is universal for most of my projects. If this does not work for your dough products then use a natural brush. That does not mean this is not a great universal brush. So I would suggest you give this brush a try if you have not already.

I have used a traditional bristled basting brush for years now and recently decided to give this silicone brush a try. I am really impressed with this brush as it is very easy to use without making a mess and very easy to clean after using. I typically use basting brushes to baste meat, pans, and breads. Basting with this brush is super easy as the butter, marinade, or oil that I’m using goes on smoothly and easily without worries of drips or disturbing the food I am basting. I love that it’s heat resistant and can be sat my counter without worrying about drips. I also love that I don’t have to worry about bristles falling out like a traditional brush would. The small size is perfect for storage and perfect for oiling small pans. I would recommend this brush to anyone.

Prior to getting the Good Grips Silicone Pastry Brush, I’ve been using a paper towel to spread oil or butter onto cold pans before I even light the stove. I used to own a traditional pastry brush, after a while, it became worn and too hard to clean, so I ended up throwing it out. Unlike traditional pastry brushes with natural bristles, this brush can be used on hot greased pans without fear of burning and melting the bristles. I’ve already used it when cooking Japanese style omelettes, which need oil to be reapplied to a heated pan, as well as brushing butter on pizza crust, and making baked potatoes. This brush glides smoothly and is extremely easy to clean thanks to the material. The bristles don’t stick or become grimy and they wipe off easily with a sponge. The top of the brush is also raised, and, due to how the bristles were engineered, holds sauce so it doesn’t spill on the counter top (unless you are overzealous with sauce, then it will). Honestly, I won’t go back to a traditional pastry brush after having used Good Grips.

I've never been a fan of silicone pastry brushes, but OXO tools are so good so gave this one a go. Highly recommend! The two different types of bristles make it soft enough to use on pastry but still able to pick up/hold whatever liquid you are brushing on. Super easy to clean.
Excellent quality and sturdiness. I like the silicon brushes, and definitely the special middle section that helps retain product being spread. While a large handle, it is NOT as large as I was expecting for grilling purposes. So if you're needing to take some time basting over a hot grill, especially if a full grill, you'll potentially need to wear grilling gloves. Also a better design would have had a hole in the handle end to hang it with. The slight angle for keeping brushes from touching a surface is a good idea, but should have also had a hole for hanging on grill hooks. I could recommend, but do note a couple of the items mentioned to improve.
I own eight pastry brushes. None of them were cheap, all of them were highly rated and suggested by famous bakers or chefs, all supposedly great. But ... they all shed even after promises upon promises they won't. I refuse to bake with stray hairs! I also own several silicone pastry brushes ... none of them great, but they do the job.I took one more chance on this OXO pastry brush and had very little confidence that I would be wowed. Just another try ... I must say this is the BEST little brush ever!! I've since removed all brushes from my arsenal and faithfully use this little beauty. It's beyond perfect. I love it for buttering pans, spreading melted butter or simple syrup over cakes. It works great. I absolutely love the size and will buy another one so both of my granddaughters can use for baking rolls. This brush cleans so nice and dries completely. It goes in the dishwasher and comes out brand new. Most of my brushes take forever to remove any butter or oils and even dry for that matter. If you'd like to buy someone, who enjoys baking, a loved gift this would be it. Wrap a ribbon around this little gem and put on top of a bridal shower gift ... they will think of you fondly each time they use it. This is beyond a five star brush. Stop wasting your time hunting the perfect pastry brush ... you just found it! Best advice: Buy two :)
I already had the small pastry brush which works great and much better than the regular silicone brushes that the sauce just drips right off, I got the large one thinking it would be good for slathering a slab of ribs, and other meats, etc.It has way too big of a handle. Too big for storage in the kitchen and my husband wasn't interested in it either. But what I noticed is that they had the length of the "bristles" the same length as the small silicone pastry brush. The bristles need to be at least a 1/4" longer. Because one has a tendency to stick the head in farther into the sauce so half the sauce is on the head. You can't really get a good amount of sauce on the bristles because they are too short for a head of this size. You can't really get a good amount of sauce on the bristles because they are too short for a head of this size. They also need to shrink down this handle, if not length, at least the grip. One doesn't need an "ergonomic" grip on a sauce brush. Too fat of a handle. This was an awkward brush. I'll just stick to the small one and do more brushing otherwise until they redesign this.
After using this, you will know why you can't buy the cheaper alternative one. It is very durable and most importantly, it really does hold the sauce a lot. I have used other products which either shed like a dog or the sauce just runs through it. Not this one! Washes very well in the dishwasher as well. Win, win, thumbs up! By the way it is a pretty decent size - got a nice grip for men!
Great little addition to a baker / cook's toolkit. I use it for a variety of different things - from spreading tomato sauce on pizza bases to adding egg washes to pastry and it's very reassuring to know that:1) There are no bristles so you don't have to worry about a bristle falling out into your food that sometimes happens with a traditional pastry brush2) You can stick it in the dishwasher and don't need to wash it by hand. Initially I was a bit worried that it might get stained by the tomato sauce but it's come out clean every time I have put it in the dishwasher (at least once a week). As mentioned by others, the brush head also doesn't sit flat on the counter when you lay it down which means you can rest it on the side without getting sauce / glaze on the ... MoreGreat little addition to a baker / cook's toolkit. I needed a second silicone pastry brush. It is good enough, and replaces a far inferior very soft silicone pastry brush which is pretty useless. But it is not as good as my John Lewis silicone pastry brush which is far superior. If JL made their silicone pastry brush in more colours other than the single colour grey, I would have preferred that.
