The RX5 has been perfect on its first few trips. Super fast setup for the main room which is great for small trips. And the second room attaches very easily solo and even faster with help from a partner. Maiden voyage had a lot of rain and this stayed dry the whole time. Zips are quiet and strong, material feels strong and I love that the guy ropes and pegs are all heavy duty. Everything feels strong, reliable and quality. Very happy camper. My only gripe would be the bag is too tight and getting the tent stowed away again can be a bit of a challenge. I think I'll solve this with a Drifta Canvas aftermarket bag.

Honestly there is no better tent. I cannot praise it high enough, it’s incredibly easy to setup and will deal with any weather conditions. The rear provides enough room to have a double high queen air mattress and a king single setup with room to walk at the end. The ventilation is more than adequate and the fly will easily deal with any amount of rain and not let any in even with the skylight open. Sure it takes some pegging out and takes a little while to setup and zip in the front room, but the extra space is amazing. Been camping many times with it and have quite a few mornings of pleasure, listening to people complain about being wet after rainfall while we were night and dry. The only downside to this tent would be when using the front room door as an awning. There is no other way to keep out inclement weather, but this can be easily solved by using a tarp as the awning, easily done by attaching it to the tops of the awning poles and a few more spreader bars, poles and guy ropes. I would suggest that nobody who has shelled out for one, has been unhappy with their purchase. Just to add that, a company called “Drifta” makes a specific tent carrier that enables the tent to be carried on roof racks without fear of bending the frame while transporting the tent.

Just took this tent out for its first run. We were family of four and fit in the main tent area with room to spare. Had plenary of rain and didn’t even have to think about it, gray runoff and the canvas is very strong and well waterproofed, water just beads off. Tonnes of room in the living room area had a fridge 2 pantry’s and a table and still room to move. Make sure you get a couple of extra large poles and a couple extra guy ropes for the awning. If you’re reading this just do it you won’t regret it.

Things I like: - Having mainly used an RV-2 in the past at 2m x 2m, the extra floor area in the main room is a huge benefit. We’ve gone from barely having space to stand to room for a queen mattress, portacot, a big chair for breast feeding and space left over for changing and bags. - The second room is a great size and fantastically flexible. Everything is a door. We had our table against the front wall and made great use of the front doors for quickly passing things in and out without having to full enter and exit the tent. Excellent in wet conditions where you don’t want to keep getting your shoes and raincoat on and off. - On our first trip out it held up to some serious rain and was bone dry inside at all times. Excellent in wet conditions where you don’t want to keep getting your shoes and raincoat on and off. - On our first trip out it held up to some serious rain and was bone dry inside at all times. We used the rain fly but I’m sure we would have been fine without, based on how the second room performed. - We haven’t yet used the star-gazing roof for it’s intended function but did find it made access for attaching the rain fly much easier. It was also hand for letting in a bit more light once the fly was in place. - The 2.6m x 2.6m floor area was plenty of room to fold up the rain fly inside, out of the wind. Having the stargarzing roof open let me stand up to do this, despite being well too tall to normally stand in the main tent. - No height problems in the second room with the peaked roof. It also seemed to shed rainwater quite well. - The fly now features small mesh pockets for stowing guy ropes. Interesting and potentially useful once we figure out how to fold it up without them all falling out again. *Other thoughts: - We’ve so far only boiled water and cooked eggs in the second room. I think we’d still run a BBQ outside to keep grease away from the tent. Still, it’s great having such a fly-proof kitchen for most work. - The second room simply isn't quick to set up. It's not terrible but, expecting that you will want to use it, the 30sec tent concept truthfully is out the window. - The front wall/awning of the second room could do with extra zippers, velcro and/or eyelets for further extension. One of the great secret features of the RV series is that the rain fly also perfectly zips onto the front of the awning. With a few extra poles you can make a huge outdoor room. Sadly that isn't possible with the RX-5. - The bedroom could still use a bit more height for my liking. I'm 6'5" and no OzTent has ever really accounted for long buggers like me. - The back wall of the bedroom meets the floor at quite a shallow angle, making the back corner only really usable if you have a low bed. With a stretcher against the back wall, you’d lose a lot of floor space. - I don’t love the fact that the rear structural member isn’t right in the back corner like on the smaller RV tents. Our RV-2 comfortably weathered a sudden windstorm, totally unpegged on rocky ground during a short, overnight stop. The RX-5 would have to be pegged at the back just to pull it out to it’s intended shape. - Since it is so big that it has to be transported on the roof rack anyway, keeping the sausage down to 2m long isn’t really an advantage for me. I’d have it be the full 2.6m and then leverage that to shift the rear structural member right into the back corner. I'd also build in the horizontal poles for the awning/second room roof. - I think I would prefer if the second room could be packed up with the main tent, since we would always want to use it. I suppose as it is, it can be separated into two lighter pieces and offers more setup flexibility. - The little orange rings supplied for keeping rain out of the eyelets in the second room seem like a total afterthought and are bound to be lost. I can think of at least a few solutions that would have been neater. - Guy ropes include a retroreflective element which may improve nighttime visibility but makes the ropes rough to handle. We also found a few where the reflective weave was snapped right out of the box. A minor gripe but I’d probably just have stuck with the plain orange ones of old. - The carry handles on the bag are still waaay too big. If you don't want them flapping in the breeze on the highway, you'll have to carefully strap them down.

The rear of the is quick and easy to put up. With the front being a little tricky if on your own but still easy. Plenty of head room, especially in the front room. I'm over 6 foot and had plenty of room to spare. A couple of things that I found annoying. When the front panel is up as an awning it's open to weather, as there are no other canvas panels to protect the interior from rain or dust. Plus if you're wishing to use the front panel as an awning there are no poles provided. Which at this price bracket is a big oversight in my opinion, and an additional cost of at least $200 for poles, ropes and tarps to fix these issues. But putting that aside it's a great tent, would highly recommend. Spent a week very comfortably in this tent over Easter, and looking forward ... MoreThe rear of the is quick and easy to put up. I bought the tent and the added room and it's better than I expected. I have tried so many tents. I live in my caravan and use the tent as my wardrobe and guest room. My friends call it luxury and all agree it's the most comfortable, weather proof and efficient tent I've had. I've slept on it many times and it's great. It gives Harry Potter tents a run for their money and I can put it up easily myself.

We bought an RX-5 2 weeks ago and put it to the test during our Easter holiday. There was no rain just a bit of wind so I cannot comment on how waterproof it is. We had about 15-25km/h wind and there was obviously no issue but other tents would have survived that. In terms of room, this thing is very spacious for a family of 3. What we found annoying was the power cord opening is only on one side and we needed the cord on the other side so that was a bit annoying. The floor is very hardy and well sealed. It has some sort of a rubber Ing feel to it which is better than the one in most tents. Ventilation is good, doors and windows are pretty well located. It has some sort of a rubber Ing feel to it which is better than the one in most tents. Ventilation is good, doors and windows are pretty well located. Set up: the main sleeping tent goes up literally in a few minutes. Not 30 seconds because you have to peg it down, put the Velcro’s on inside. So realistically it takes about 5 minutes if you hurry. The annex on the other hand took us quite a bit of time, mind you it was the first time to set it up. With the main sleeping section everything is labelled A and B so pretty self-explanatory. This cannot be said about the annex. Apart from orange zip that indicates where the floor zips unto the front of the main tent, nothing really helps you see if the big flappy annex is the right way. The aluminium poles are light, the loosen-tighten twist function is welcome but the durability of the poles is questionable. The annex has big uncovered holes top and bottom where it attaches to the main tent where insects can get in especially ants if you leave food in the annex which we tried to avoid therefore we did not really have an issue with insects. If you think that we are dissatisfied with our purchase, you are wrong. The tent is durable, we really like the warm canvas at night, also with the side windows open and the fly on even on a 33 degree day the tent was comfortable inside during the one sunny day we had in Victoria :) The tent comes with all the guy ropes attached and strong sturdy pegs. We recommend putting a tarp or drop sheet down in front of the tent or even underneath to prevent too much dust getting into the annex. The height of the annex makes standing up and getting changed very easy even for a whole family. RX-5 is a great tent but not perfect. We think it’s worth the price, workmanship is superb, everything is well-sealed, durable. We will take it up to Queensland for our 4 week long service leave. That will be the big text to see how it lasts. By the way if you have a 6x4 trailer it will fit in diagonally.

We arrived on a 38C day and setting the tent up at 2pm for the first time was a bad idea. 1st lesson learnt. It took me a good hour to work out how to assemble even after watching snowys youtube videos (a lot of the minor details were cut making it a bit more challenging). We didn’t bother setting up the front annex due to the hot weather. Packing up was relatively easy. Took the fly off the night before leaving. Getting back into the bag was reasonably easy except the fly sheet was a bit awkward. There was plenty of ventilation and options to let more air in or out. No condensation and enough room to get changed without front annex although not much head room for a 6ft man in tent section. Shout out to Snowys for the outstanding customer service and delivery time.

This thing is great. The different setups are very flexible. If you arrive at night in bad weather, you can have the rear set up in just a couple of minutes and get yourself out of the weather. If the weather is fine but you're only staying one night, you probably wouldn't bother with the front room, but you can still put up the awning to give you some shade. And of course you can set up the whole front and rear. If you're not in a hurry I think 10 minutes to do the rear (with all guy ropes) and 15 for the front is realistic. Because any panel can be your "door", you can also move a closed panel around to chase the sun. It's a really nice space. The front and middle ridge poles also make the structure relatively rigid and you would need a decent gale to worry you.Every fitting on the tent has a sturdy and thoughtful loop or bag or cover to keep it out of the way. Excellent quality. The fabric is a nice light colour which is an improvement on the dark colours of my previous tent. Very hard to light a dark tent. The RX5 also has that fantastic canvas smell. After having this thing near a few fires I walk inside it and honestly it smells like some kind of delicious savoury hearty meal.Have taken this thing to four different places now. Haven't used the fly yet and have not had trouble with condensation. I did get a minor tear in the floor which let in some water — unfortunately some yahoos had been smashing bottles and we set up on a shard of glass. The floor material is by no means thin, and the tent comes with spare fabric of every sort to repair even large holes, but I'd still recommend something to go under the floor. The sunroof is worth it. 100%. I reckon I'm lying asleep smiling all night with the stars above. And importantly you can close the sunroof from inside the tent in case you get a meteorological surprise.
