I purchased this a couple of days ago. I connected it to My Samsung tv via my Yamaha A2030 amp and foundthat I didn't need to use the separate audio and video outputs. The amp passed through the video signal to the tvand the audio played through the amp. I should add that I played a 4K blue ray disc of Oppenheimer in 9channel stereo audio setting. The sound was incredible, almost frightening, you could feel the base frequencies. You should demo this in the shop.

Excellent UHD Player

I have the Samsung Q90 Soundbar and have found I can just use the 1 x HDMI (audio Only) to the soundbar and the other HDMI (Video and Audio) to the TV (OLED C9PLA). Looking at the setting, during play, the TV has gone back to ARC but the Soundbar, is still using the Panasonic HDMI port point for audio I don't think it should really work like that but it does. Downside: the Panasonic Network Feature doesn't work at the moment - it says it no network connection but in the setting, says it is connected to the network. Plus side: Using the Panasonic UHD player brings superb picture and amazing sound. I know we can use Apps for content and they are good but the player makes everything really astounding. It might seem old fashioned to buy a disc but the quality in both sound and vision, is far far far, superior on a disc to that of a download via an App. The Panasonic DP-UB450EB, Ultra HD Blu-ray player makes the whole experience visually and audibly stunningly immersive. Highly recommend.

First thoughts

Received promptly and for a reduction through the VIP system as it was my first telesales purchase as opposed to visiting the website or shop. The unit is compact and basic in appearance but that is fine as it will be stored in a cabinet. The tray mechanism and quality is OK but at this price point you will not get something that is built like a tank.Put in a 4k Bluray 'BladeRunner 2049' and noticed that it was much quicker to load than my previous 4K UHD player (Sony UBP500). Once play was in motion the picture is discernibly better than my previous player. It is definitely sharper during motion and it keeps the image from breaking up into artifacts when a difficult passage is thrown at it..The colour is great but I also put that down to the Panasonic LZ2000 ... MoreReceived promptly and for a reduction through the VIP system as it was my first telesales purchase as opposed to visiting the website or shop. The unit is compact and basic in appearance but that is fine as it will be stored in a cabinet. It is definitely sharper during motion and it keeps the image from breaking up into artifacts when a difficult passage is thrown at it..The colour is great but I also put that down to the Panasonic LZ2000 OLED screen. It delivers content HDR very well indeed. After replacing the 4K disc with a 1080 of the same film I was impressed with its upscaling and from 14ft viewing distance the picture was noticeably finer and sharper than when played from my non 4K player. In fact in some static scenes it was almost challenging its 4k counterpart disc. But on closer inspection the difference became more obvious.Sound-wise It was more subdued than the Sony but once the volume is edged up on the LZ2000 TV (using its built in Atmos speaker system) or through the Home theatre kit it was as good as you could hope for for the price with good dynamic range (in fact it matched a couple of players that I have tested at over twice the price). So, very happy with the purchase and the service from Richer Sounds but I will add some thoughts in a few months about the robustness and resilience of the Panasonic player.

Good sound and vision
2 January 2024

I gave this product a lot of thought before buying. I had shortlisted 3 Blu-Ray players-2 Panasonic and a Sony. The Panasonic DP-UB450 has good reviews, so decided to purchase this model. Although my Panasonic television is now OLD in technical terms, the Blu- Ray does a very good job with the picture quality. Sound is also very good. On the back of the player are 2 HDMI sockets, 1 for sound only, the other for sound and vision, which I am currently using. The sound through my Denon AVR-X4200W is very good as the decoding appears to be clearer, especially DTS.X. I will have to wait to upgrade the tv before I can experience Dolby vision and full 4K UHD, but for now, I am happy with this product. Good technical performance but disappointing build quality
4 July 2022

I have very mixed feelings on this unit. When I first unpacked it I was immediately disappointed with the cheap feeling build quality, light and flimsy.Opening the disc draw was a bit rough, a little noisy and slow and the action was sort of stiff. The supplied remote is truly awful, it is tiny and made of thin plastic with tiny crowned buttons. So, first off- it simply felt like every corner had been cut to get the build cost down (but this is not a cheap unit!)Thankfully the technical performance is outstanding as for as picture and sound go - really very very good. Also found I could use my TV remote in a limited way instead of the supplied cheap remote (but some things to still need to go back to the supplied remote for- so you still need to keep it close ... MoreI have very mixed feelings on this unit. Also found I could use my TV remote in a limited way instead of the supplied cheap remote (but some things to still need to go back to the supplied remote for- so you still need to keep it close by)The operation menus are a bit limited and sometimes some functions aren't so obvious. What has happened to Panasonic ? I last bought a cheap DVD / AV receiver combo unit from them 15 years ago- it cost relatively the same but was gloriously well engineered. Now this Blu Ray player seems just an AV 'product' to be hidden away and there is no joy of owning nice 'stuff'Kind of expected a bit better from the brand in this respects- but again I will admit and say again, the picture and sound quality is above reproach for this player and now I do appreciate that fact. Doubt I could have bough a player with better picture and sound !!

This player is a solid performer especially for the price range. It was very easy to set up and has the connections needed for the home theatre user. Its a bit of a dissapointment that it is not WI-FI enabled and is ethernet only.Having said that it does not have any Netflix or other functions and so only needs the internet to update the firmware which was quick to check and download. The remote control is rather small and takes a bit of getting used to but after using for a while it is ok but it does take a firm pressure on the buttons to get a response. Now onto the performance.Picture quality is excellent and clear and vibrant.I am very happy to say that the 3D output is superb as i am one of the people who still loves 3D films. 4K is stunning and looks so good ... MoreThis player is a solid performer especially for the price range. It was very easy to set up and has the connections needed for the home theatre user. The sound quality using these connections is phenomanal, using the high res audio this way,I found that all my speakers came alive with sound. Overall a product that i would higly recomend. The only downpoints are the small remote that does need a firm press of the buttons and the lack of built in WI-FI.But as stated only really needs the internet to updat firmware which can be downloaded using a USB to update the player. I was given this product by Panasonic to review as part of the Panasonic Reviewer Programme.

Great Value 4K Blu-ray Player
21 July 2023

I bought this as a second blu-ray player to watch 4K movies in my bedroom. It has a compact form factor and all the features which really matter to me such as Dolby vision at a great price without unnecessary bells and whistles which my TV already provides. Time taken to load discs is approx 10-15 seconds and picture quality is great. This player upscales standard blu-ray and dvd's to 4k really well and has a separate hdmi output for sound.

Setting up the player was quick and easy (I also like how you can personalise the home screen by using a photo of your own from a USB stick, for instance). Picture quality is excellent, and you certainly get a lot for your money; the price I paid was very reasonable. This was my first purchase of a Panasonic product of this kind, and I am very impressed with it.

Simple to use & astounding picture quality
24 March 2020

Bought this to go with my Panasonic GX800 TV and it does everything I want it to brilliantly well. It's quite a basic looking black box with no display, only a red light to show when it's turned on, but once hooked up to the TV it performs superbly. All types of disc I've played on it have looked great - from upscaled standard definition DVDs to 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray discs, the image quality this player produces is superb. 4K HDR material in particular looks astonishingly good. HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision encoded discs have been automatically detected and picture settings changed accordingly on the TV. Colours pop and contrast is high. There are enough tweakable settings on the player for real image purists to mess around with. It's nice to have two HDMI outputs too - one dedicated to audio only and the other for direct connection to the TV. This allows me to route the audio to my amp separately. There have been no lip-sync issues at all either. The USB port on the front accepts both flash drives and bus-powered portable hard drives. I've successfully played various video file formats from MP4s to MKVs, some with HDR encoding and they have all played perfectly. Really can't fault much about this player at all. Yes, it has quite a basic user interface and a small plasticky remote, but in terms of functionality it does everything a 4K player should do brilliantly, and for a low cost.
