I own and love the Lumix G9 . However, I knew that I was having some limitations with low light. I decided to purchase the Lumix S5 and am really glad I did.The S5 is very similar to the G9 in design which I really like. All the controls are where I'm used to finding them. And for me, the extra cost for Sony and Canon's similar products was not worth it. I couldn't be happier with the camera, including the menu, weight, ergonomics and photo/video quality.

I sold my Fuji XT4 and went full frame. I have to say this has been one of the best purchases I've made considering the value. I not only got $100 discounted and I also got a free 85 1.8 Lumix lens!!!!!! Whoever does that? Lol.I purchased this camera for when my family and I go out, so it's just personal work and occasional video work too.The menu is perfect. The auto focus does work. It's just different from my other camera (canon). But I am not going to compare the auto focus since that's not what I bought it for. I just needed a nice, not too expensive body, and this fits my need. Relieved to report that my impulsive jump from the Fuji X-T4 to the Lumix S5 has been a big success.The S5 has much better ergonomics + handling and is basically the same size as the X-T4, which is remarkable considering it's full-frame. The JPEG engine is also great (Portrait color profile is my favorite).On the video front, I love that the S5 IBIS allows for such smooth handheld footage and that I don't have to worry about overheating, an issue I consistently ran into with my X-T4 and X-S10. I loved this camera. It felt durable and pleasant in the hands and took great pictures. I did, however, end up returning this camera. I have invested in the Sony camera/lenses and still use them, so it was hard to justify jumping to Panasonic when I would have to buy into the L-Mount lenses. Panasonic lenses are great (the kit lens is amazingly sharp), but they are a little more expensive, especially when you consider how Sony has a lot of third-party options such as Tamron, Sigma, Samyang, etc.The Sony comparable camera to this would be the A7 IV, which is more expensive. So the value, especially when on sale, is much better with the Lumix S5. Of course, the autofocus isn't as great as the A7 IV, but you can still take great pictures nonetheless. I bought this at John Lewis Newcastle. Very compact for a full frame camera and that makes it ideal for travelling. It has lots of the features of the more expensive Panasonic cameras but in a smaller body and a much lower price point. The high ISO performance is remarkable and I often use it at night without a tripod, even though the kit lens is rather slow at f3.5-f5.6. Don't be put off by the term 'kit lens' which usually means mediocre performance. This lens is amazing! Some complain about the autofocus performance but let me say that for still photography it's very fast. I have no experience of using it for video. The RAW files show loads of detail and are very flexible in post processing. A great camera, highly recommended.

But for what I need and want, it's as close to perfect as you can get. The camera produces excellent images, clarity, color, dynamic range is hard to beat at the price point, and the in camera pre amps are the best I've ever had. I shoot in all weather, lots of different lighting conditions, and in lots of fast paced settings where it's run and gun shooting, as well as planned out shots. I shoot tripod shots, gimbal ,and handheld on the S5, and it is suited to all very well thanks to the stellar IBIS. Sometimes the handheld shots make me wonder why I brought the gimbal. I personally see no reason to complain about that when most lack it entirely. While I don't like the mini HDMI port is has, and wish it had the full HDMI like the S1H, it's not the end of the world, and I do find the in camera 10 bit 4:2:2 4K to be more than enough for my YouTube and professional work.

The only thing holding it back is the buggy wifi connection + iOS app. I need this to function and it's glitchy 25% of the time. With a sigma 24-70mm lens I found it to really struggle... compared to what is available in other cameras.Those 2 issues aside... the camera does everything else really well at a tremendous value... over the last year I've been tempted by camera X,Y,Z but can't rationalize selling this to spend more when it gets so much right...The video quality is beautiful (especially with the latest firmware upgrades) and the dynamic range in raw photos is more than enough for me. Auto focus for photography is nothing to complain about. Eye/Face auto focus has never failed me in photography.I like that the camera is smaller than most full frame cameras... every ounce counts when traveling... while not eliminating key things like dual card slots, flip out screen and image stabilization.Shooting time lapses are a breeze on this camera. Using the lumix app on my phone has been much more pleasurable/useful than other manufacturers mobile app. The 4k live crop feature that creates a video clip with movement in it has been a surprisingly useful tool for B roll.The amount of customizability is incredible... there are more than enough custom setting modes than I'll ever need.Shooting manual focus lenses is pretty easy with it's focus peaking and ability to zoom in 200% to nail critical focus... I love how it will ask you what the focal length is when turning it on when there is an adapted lens on and then allows you to tell it so that it can get the stabilization right.... Ibis is fantastic...Another feature that I love is when using a zoom lens it can show you what mm you are on... so if you want to constantly get/use a certain focal length... it's easy to reliably do so as it will show 35mm or 24mm etc... in evf/screen.The advanced video features are more than I will ever use... I've really enjoyed learning and using waveforms to consistently nail my video exposure.All in all... happy with my purchase after almost a year of use... If you can deal with the 2 pain points I mention at the top of the review... save yourself some money... get this camera used and use the left over money to travel somewhere and get amazing photos/videos!One other thing that could be a pain point for most... but it's not for me and really is getting better... is the lens selection... the catalog isn't as developed as something like Sony... but the key go to lenses for the L mount are mostly there now...
