Panasonic Lumix S5 With 20-60mm Lens Kit
The Panasonic Lumix S5 is a hybrid stills/video camera that has a 24MP full-frame sensor. Like the other members of the Lumix S family, it uses the L-mount developed with Sigma and Leica. The S5 has built-in 5-axis image stabilization, which can reduce shake by up to 6.5 stops with compatible lenses. A high-res mode uses the IS system to produce 96MP images with much higher levels of detail. It has a fully articulating LCD with 1.84 million dots and a large EVF with 2.36M dots. On the video side, the S5 can capture 10-bit 4K at up to 60p. V-Log and V-Gamut have a claimed dynamic range of over 14 stops. Panasonic has improved the accuracy of continuous autofocus in video mode and face/eye/body recognition accuracy in all shooting modes. The S5 has mic and headphone sockets, and supports Panasonic's XLR adapter. The compact but well-built body is weather-sealed and has two SD card slots (one of the two supporting UHS-II speeds). It has dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The camera can be powered and charged over its USB-C connector.

This is a beautiful camera and is probably the finest money can buy under $3000 (perhaps even $4000+). Autofocus is greatly improved and now as good as the likes of Sony and Canon. Since that was the only real disadvantage to Panasonic cameras, this camera exceeds those from other manufacturers in every other way: best IBIS system for any full-frame camera, best video IQ, amazing video tools and features, open-gate 6k recording, 4-channel audio, anamorphic modes, and great photo quality as well. It really is a near-perfect camera, especially at the price point.

I absolutely love this camera but when it comes for the photo side of things that's where we have a little issue. When using Continuous AF and shooting with flash there is about a .5 second delay from the moment the shutter is pressed and the actual camera takes the photo. This is a problem. As a professional wedding photographer this is unacceptable. I really want to give it 5 stars but until this is addressed it's a 4+ star

Upgraded to the S5 after many happy years using the lumix GX8. I chose this because the body size is not any larger than my MFT system, and fits easily into the same bag. Moving to FF is a step up for me, and the difference is quite noticeable when shooting in high ISO situations. The photographic and video quality is outstanding. Being a Lumix shooter, the menus are familiar to me albeit more extensive than the capable GX8. I appreciate compared to other makes, the AF gets a bit of a hammering from YouTubers. For what I do, I haven't had cause for complaint. Fast bird photographers may feel differently regarding focus and lower burst rate. I haven't tried that yet with this camera, but will update when I do. So, apart from this potential area, I really can't see ... MoreUpgraded to the S5 after many happy years using the lumix GX8. I'm still getting used to the Lumix S ecosystem, but so far I'm loving the fact that this camera is targeted towards people who create video content. So many options and configurations to choose from, I'm a little overwhelmed right now.I'm very glad Panasonic was allowed to upgrade to Phase Detect Autofocus, as this was my primary reason for holding out on purchasing a Lumix S camera. The autofocus works so well, I would dare to say it works as well (maybe better than..) as a Sony camera.Clean visuals, nice colours, a plethora of resolution options, a new cooling system, functional autofocus and manageable files, why look elsewhere?
Pros: Great to finally have PDAF in an L mount body, improved image stabilisation, ability to now use tracking and AFC with adapted lenses and Sigma MC-21. Has to be the best value mirrorless feature for feature available right now.Cons: No battery charger, no printed manual - but Panasonic are not alone in this silly omission.
Very pleased with image quality, relatively small size and weight, super intuitive layout and menus, lots of features, good battery life. Used mainly for stills, travel, walk-around and astrophotography, but have enjoyed getting to know the video capabilities and shooting in VLOG. Low light performance is outstanding and the build quality is generally very good, the camera is a joy to handle. Only a couple of compromises to keep weight down that are slight minus points; the viewfinder is not as immersive as on my G9, nevertheless it is still very usable. The flap covering the dual card slots feels a bit flimsy. Overall a superb camera. The 20-60 lens is sharp at all focal lengths, a great wide angle option and pleasingly lightweight. For the first time - all my favourite camera features in one box! Thanks Panasonic :). I am a long time Panny user due to the great stabe and useability (G85, GX80, G9, S5). I worked around the sketchy AF since I am more amateur landscapes than pro weddings. But now, with phase detect -- AF works! The swirling blurry fog of indecision has been banished (from videos....). Now, something, somewhere in your frame will be in focus -- pretty much all the time! The choice to have a 3 second cinematic focus pull is now yours. I shot with a Sony A7c (stabe??) for a year, and in my opinion the S5 M2 AF now looks very similar to that. I am using L-mount sigma f3.5/24mm and f2.0/35mm, and the kit Lumix L 20-60mm. They all seem to work equivalently to me - for photo and video. ... MoreFor the first time - all my favourite camera features in one box! Thanks Panasonic :). If you really push the AF, and starve the camera of light (low light, or just stopped down) then, yeah, things will go badly - but that is the case for the sony AF too. There are a bunch of other feature refinements which improve S5 performance and useability, and taken together I am very happy with the M2 upgrade. Other users might like to know that the custom settings (CAMSET) from an S5 M1 do not copy over to the S5 M2 (not recognized). So nothing's perfect. Adding some photos of fast moving cats in low light.
To my mind a under valued camera. Well thought out layout of controls ( for me ) extremely well made and the results from the 20-60 lens even with the limited F stops have been excellent. I cannot fault this Panasonic product. I should add that I only take stills so cannot comment on the video side. I have now purchased the 50mm F1.8 as well.
I use this camera for both Photography and Videography and so far been blown away with the quality images it produces. The coloring in the imagery is one thing that stands out to me the most.Clients that I have produced interview's and about us videos have been extremely happy with the results of the projects and I would highly recommend this camera for Commercial use. If you are looking for something entry level to start a business with, this camera is the one to go for.Jacob at the Pacific Fair shop did a great job of filling me in on all the detail about this camera, he was very well researched, so much so that when doing my own research I found he had already told me all the key points all the top Youtubers were talking about with this camera. The camera is ... MoreI use this camera for both Photography and Videography and so far been blown away with the quality images it produces. I have extensively used the G9 for all kinds of uses, mainly for travel which it is by far the best system to take with you. I decided to move to Panasonic mainly for their build quality and not having to worry about using in harsh conditions. After purchasing the S1R it convinced me that going to Full Frame offered just that bit of extra resolution. Extensive use of the S1R was a most enjoyable experience, but after long days with this and a 24-105 proved that if there was a smaller version it would be almost the perfect set up.I have been using the S5 with both the 20-60 and 24-105 lenses for a week in the Lake District and they have been great performers. The S5 benefits from a great form factor with superb build quality and handling.I am a genuine convert to the L mount, however, I still maintain other full frame systems but as a travel fan in many different climates, I will not be confident taking anything other than then S5 with it's durability, and for the great results with particularly the lightweight combination of the 20-60.The DFD system has never given me a concerns, once you understand the camera focusing is not a problem with either stills or Video particularly when using the APC mode. Finally, the real test for any system is what you camera you pick up first, and lately it has been a Panasonic L mount. My next purchase will be the forthcoming Panasonic 70-300 which with the 20-60 will be a formidable travel combination.
