As usual Patagonia sets the standard for others to follow/imitate. I am 5ft 10in 155 lbs and the medium fits neatly over a shirt; not too loose nor too snug. The pockets and their placement is just right; all with zippers. The chest pocket is large enough to hold an iPhone 12 in a somewhat bulky case fairly easily but its probably intended for eyewear; regardless its very useful and easily accessed. If you didn't know better you would never think that this is made of fleece as it looks like the knit that you find in sweaters. It offers a good amount of warmth and my hands love the feel of the micro fleece lined pockets. Comparing the photo supplied for this review (fyi: a gift), my vest doesn't quite match; e.g., at the shoulders. Across the top of my shoulders the vest sticks both out & up; i.e., it reminds me of some sort of sci-fi outfit seen in old TV series - the vest's material (right above its armpits) will not "relax." Perhaps there's too much material across the back of vest. Compared to other medium sized Patagonia vests that I wear, this one - while warm - is not a good fit for a 5' 9' slim built male.

I purchased this vest a few weeks ago and overall really like it, perfect for a 40-60 degree day with a long sleeve shirt. The material is amazingly comfortable and it is lined so even my scruffy beard does not pull when zipped up. The fit it excellent and true to size. I am 6’1”, about 170lbs, with a 32 inch waist, and 44 inch chest and a large fits perfect. The only wish I have is that the zipper was two way for when I sit or get in the car as I don’t want to stretch out the waist. Most of my really great coats and vests have this.

I love your products, the quality and your reputation as well as commitments to sustainability and environmental issues. Probably the only thing I would like to see different, is for this vest and the long sleeve version too, is to be just a little bit shorter. Admittedly, for me its to be a little more fashionable as lengths of jackets, coats, sweaters, etc., are all just a little shorter. But all in all, especially when layering with your down jackets, I really like everything else. Would also like to see the capilene base layer qtr. zip in additional colors! Thank you for all that you do!
This Better Sweater unfortunately was not for me. I am 162bs, almost 511 and have a 32-33 wait. This medium vest just did not lay well on my midriff as it buckled between my sternum and belly button. The shoulders fit was a ok, and the arm holes were fine for my slender build. The length was about 4 inches below my belt and I personal like vests to stop at my belt of slightly below. I was looking for a somewhat tight fitting vest like their old synchilla vest which I wish they'd bring back! - and this vest had to much material which did not make it hang well on me. It was obvious that a small would have been too small. Too bad everything else was signature Patagonia quality. Thank you for easy returns Patagonia!
It's everything I wanted in the body core warmth vest, material, feel, and look. Had to send the package back, and order the next size up. I always opt for XL, to allow a little room for layering. The single X was not tight, but it was snug, and would not allow for layering for my desired daily utility with the vest. So this vest, i had to send back and get the XX L. I've only had to do that with aftermarket cotton T-shirt manufacturers (concert Ts, and that sort of thing). I don't recall having to purchase a garment like this using double X large. Suffice to say, it's just a tad small, if ordering online, recommend going next one up, if you prefer the space for layering over your clothes.
I originally purchased this in a large but found it too wide in the shoulders, the body was loose all round and sort of hung on me. So, the item was easily exchanged for a medium. The medium fits well throughout the shoulders but is a bit too snug in the body. I'm keeping the item in hopes it will stretch a little bit or I lose some weight in the belly. ha ha! But the bottom line is, I really like the vest, the fabric is nice, the vest is warm, and very high quality.
I gave this vest to my son as a holiday gift a year ago and have wished to have one for myself now that cooling weather of the autumn is here. So I ordered it for myself! It feels so good to wear that I do not want to take it off. The knit material of recycled polyester material with the nice interior lining is just good to the touch and functionally warm. I think Patagonia has hit the right style as I wear it downtown to my office and out in the countryside. Great product.
What a vest. Nothing says new tax bracket like a slate grey Patagonia vest. Whether crunching numbers, running code, or schmoozing with clients over a nice plumb saison at the marina, this is the vest for the job. It comes with three pockets- one for each of your phones, plus one for your sunglasses/RFID-actuated workspace access key fob. The material is nice and warm for those nippy Bay/Cape Cod mornings, while the wool knit offers enough give for kinetic situations. A vest of all seasons.
I have a 44" chest with 36" waist and Large fits good with a standard fit. Very well put together vest. Very soft with moderate heat retention. I get hot easily and this is offers a good option for keeping my core warm without burning up. The only thing I wish was that Patagonia would offer a merino/cotton blend. This is 100% polyester plastic. The garment might last longer but it aids in static electricity when it is dry out and releases microscopic plastic particles back into the water supply. Wool and cotton are a much more ecological resource. When this polyester Patagonia vest eventually ends up in the landfill, it will never decompose and will instead be permanent pollution.
