This is the first rain jacket that I actually want to wear. I work outside in the rainy Pacific Northwest but always despised wearing rain gear because it's crunchy, not cute, and hard to move in. This jacket is the opposite! The material is soft, not loud, and easy to move in. I'm almost always a size M, and the medium fits perfectly with room for a light/medium layer underneath. Maybe size up if you plan to wear thick layers underneath? The carmine red color is so rich and beautiful. I'm so happy with this purchase and can't wait to test it out in the elements!

Extremely disappointing, not waterproof at all. I bought this rain jacket in Portland, OR in Fall 2023 before a six-month backpacking adventure around the world. I needed something that I could count on while scaling mountains in Chile, Argentina, and New Zealand in a variety of weather conditions, and that could hold up both as a ski shell and as waterproof layer for everyday use. I had high hopes for this jacket and loved the sustainable material, so I was willing to pay full-price. Unfortunately, this jacket barely pearled water in a light drizzle; in an actual rainstorm on the Routeburn Trek, I was soaked within minutes. Maybe if you wear this for casual use or occasional hiking, it would hold up. But I needed reliable adventure gear, and this jacket repeatedly ... MoreExtremely disappointing, not waterproof at all. The jacket is well constructed, lightweight, soft, sustainably manufactured and reasonably priced, especially if you get it on sale. However, Patagonia does a poor job accommodating pear and hourglass shaped figures in general. My measurements are roughly 36-29-39 for reference so according to the size charts, a small, or between small-medium. The small is appropriately loose in most places, but too snug over the hips. The size chart says "if your hip measurement is larger, consider buying the size indicated for your hips". However, in the medium, I was swimming in excess material all-over. I can't imagine a scenario where I'd be layering with only cropped mid-layers, so this fit seems pretty weird, like the waist-to-hip ratio is not aligned with their size ... MoreThe jacket is well constructed, lightweight, soft, sustainably manufactured and reasonably priced, especially if you get it on sale. This is a super common experience for me with Patagonia tops, midlayers and jackets. I would buy everything Patagonia if they actually sold products for my body type, which is pretty average overall! In my opinion, since most rain jackets have a drawstring at the hips, it'd make more sense to make them a little wider at the hips. That way, women with narrow hips could still use the drawstring to adjust the fit, and wider-hipped women wouldn't be sized out altogether.

I just started wearing this coat this month in the atmospheric rain storms we have been having in the PNW. I am 5 ft 8 in and 130 lbs with 34 in bust 28 inch waist and 37.5 inch hips. The small fits nicely with light layers under (R1 and a nano vest). The hood is amazing and actually covers my entire head and doesnt shift backwards. the carmine red color is so so rich and beautiful. My favorite color ever of any Patagonia gear, of which I own a lot. Keeps me dry and I can hear my hiking partner talking since the fabric is not crinkling. A joy to wear!
I bought this jacket in July 2024, and wore it 2-3 times during a hiking trip out in the Rockies in early August 2024. I really wanted to like the jacket - the Lagom Blue is beautiful and the jacket feels great (it's not that noisy). The pit vents were the key seller for me. However, I had to return the jacket because it does not do it's actual function. After a hike in steady rain, my shirt underneath was soaked! While I was hiking with the rain jacket on, the pit vents were all closed, I tightened the sleeves, and even had my hood on. So I am not sure how water got in. Even the MEC sales associate was shocked when I returned the jacket. I felt sad and disappointed to return this beautiful jacket, but I'd rather spend the money on a rain jacket that works.
I've used this jacket as shell for resort skiing, ski touring, mountaineering, hiking and just a jacket around town, and I really, really like it. Love the color and love the fit. It is water resistant enough for an all day outing in the harsh PNW winter and dries very quickly if it wets out. It's also very light and packs down reasonably small in the front breast pocket.BUT..I've only had it about a year and the waterproof seams are already falling apart on the inside of the jacket. Maybe it's just that I've used it for close to 100 days in the mountains, but I'm bummed that it's coming apart at the seams. Maybe I can just repair it and see a lot more life out of it. The outer portion of the shell has been very durable and shows very little signs of wear.I'd ... MoreI've used this jacket as shell for resort skiing, ski touring, mountaineering, hiking and just a jacket around town, and I really, really like it. Looks like this should be a good jacket quality-wise, but be careful of the sizing if you have a pear-shaped figure. My measurements are XXS for chest (31in) and almost S for hips (37.5in), so I gambled on an XS that was on sale. It fits pretty well on top with ample room for layering underneath, but indeed just barely fits in the hips. If I had sized up to match my hips, the top would be much too baggy. So, technically, this jacket seems to run to size, BUT that suggests Patagonia standard sizing is not a great fit for my body type. I will probably keep this jacket because it fits well enough to work, and because I like the features that most other brands dont offer (recycled content, repair and resale programs, fair trade manufacturing). However, the fit makes me wary of buying Patagonia jackets or tops in the future. I wish their sizing were just an inch or two more generous in the hips, to better accommodate those of us with curvier bottoms than busts (while still not being too roomy for smaller-hipped people). I would become a steady customer if I could be confident that garments would fit.
I really wanted to love this jacket. I bought it (admittedly, on sale) from REI in March to replace my Patagonia Calcite jacket, which had gotten a bit worn out and permanently dirty after a couple of years of near-daily trail walks with my dog in the Pacific Northwest. Both styles have the single zippered chest pocket, which I like for carrying my ID with me. Today was just the last straw, so I guess I'm rage reviewing. I got soaked through AGAIN wearing this over my Nanopuff. This is marketed as a "rain jacket" but I can count on my shoulders and upper back getting wet every time I walk in anything more than light rain. I have gotten soaked through to my t-shirt wearing this over my Nanopuff or a sweatshirt after less than 2 hours in wet weather. I don't ... MoreI really wanted to love this jacket. I have gotten soaked through to my t-shirt wearing this over my Nanopuff or a sweatshirt after less than 2 hours in wet weather. I don't understand how they can call it waterproof. I want to replace it with another Patagonia jacket, because I support the company's mission, but I don't want to keep getting soaked in the rain, particularly as winter is coming and that rain is cold. (And the jacket itself is in fine shape, except for not repelling the water.) Maybe there was a reason it was on sale. Some of the other models are hundreds of dollars more - in the spirit of "you get what you pay for," I would be willing to spend that if I was guaranteed to stay dry (and could find one with a chest pocket). But I still don't know why this jacket isn't working.
This rain jacket is lightweight, soft, and comes in great colors. So far it seems to repel water well. I like that it's a little longer in the back, which makes for a more flattering cut and more coverage in the rain. I also like that it's not stiff like some other rain jackets. I agree with other reviewers that the fit is a little funny/snugger in the middle section, so I had to size up, which made the sleeves/top a bit longer and the cut a little less flattering. Still, great rain jacket. I suggest taking a look at the cut of the women's jackets in the middle so that you can stay true to size without sacrificing fit elsewhere.
The 1st time I found this raincoat was in 2012. That one has now worn out ( 2024), and is beginning to leak water in. I have warn that one and the rain pants in Antarctica , other wet locations, hikes, winter storms , on the farm in the in drizzle and massive rain storms taking care of the animals. I know it is expensive, but don't waste your money on the cheap stuff that doesn't work! I have worn my last jacket to work and on the farm, it lasted 12 years. Pretty Good! it is also a great layering piece, in the heat and snow. It also works when power washing the house. It is my go to coat.
