Great all purpose down jacket

On colder days I put another warm layer underneath and use the cinch cords to keep cold wind out of the bottom of the jacket. The pockets are lined with a nice soft material to keep your hands warm.2. Great for everyday wear but also works well for staying warm while camping or belaying. I primarily wear this as a casual winter coat but I've also taken it on many camping and climbing trips with good results. It obviously lacks some features of a more technical jacket, but I don't have the money to buy down jackets for every scenario so I've made this one work.3. It's not loud and swishy when you walk, and it comes in nice colors. The shell fabric is really soft and doesn't feel plastic-y like some other puffers do. This thing is super squishy, I've even used it as a pillow on occasion.4. It's durable. Like I said, I've owned this coat for 4 years now and can confirm that it holds up to wear well. I wouldn't pick this coat if I was going to put it through real abuse since it is a casual jacket with a nice soft outer shell fabric, but I've definitely scraped mine up a bit on branches and rocks while scrambling and haven't had any rips or tears. I wash it once or twice a year with down wash to clean and re-fluff it.Stuff I don't like:1. I have the mustard yellow color and it stains more easily than some other jackets I've owned, probably because the material is soft and it's a lighter color. I get some discoloration on the cuffs and pockets from regular wear, although it does come out in the wash. I don't think this would be an issue with a darker color.2. Sometimes I wish the pockets zipped for more security. The snaps work well enough but sometimes I get paranoid that I'm going to drop my keys or something.

I'm actually impressed!

I tried on quite a few puffers from various brands before almost giving up on the idea entirely. Where others were shaped oddly, sized inconsistently, or simply not cute enough, this one excels! It's a bit slimmer than some other puffers, but far warmer! The drawcord hem gives a better silhouette, fit, and warmth level. It's the perfect length, the arms are long enough, and it's too adorable! Now I'm eyeing this one in other colors because I love it so much. I highly recommend giving this one a try, especially if you've been disappointed by other puffers!

This jacket is absolutely fantastic. It fits as you'd expect and is warmer than I expected! I love that the sleeve cuffs are a stretchy material, it really helps keep warmth in. I am a 34DD and most jackets are tight in the chest but this one is very comfortable and doesn't look or feel tight. The first time I wore it was at a bonfire in December and I stayed warm all night. The jacket is cut a little shorter than the other jackets I have from Patagonia- there's no hip or butt coverage at all. This is no issue just something I wasn't expecting. Overall, this is a great jacket. Cute, warm, cozy, and fun to wear.

Perfect weight for Fall
16 November 2022

I absolutely love this jacket and own it in two colors. I bought the olive green color several years ago and wore it so much that I bought a blue version last year. It is very soft and I love the cut, which is slightly more cropped than many other jackets. I am always cold, so I like something warm and puffy starting in Fall, and this jacket is the perfect weight for that time of year. It is light enough to wear on cool days, and also great layered in colder weather. Our friends at Patagonia knocked it out of the park on this one!

Puffy Perfection with size issues
29 January 2023

Overall the material and feel of this jacket is luxurious. My only problem is with the fit. Originally I got a size small and it fit, but felt a little snug with certain arm movements and I would not have been able to layer. So I exchanged it for a medium online but when I got it and put it on it felt way too big. The sleeves were down to my fingers and the jacket felt to wide and long. So now Im not sure what to do I think I am going to return it again and re try them on in an actual store. But this sizing difference is disappointing.

Runs large - bring in XXS!
13 November 2022

I once tried a Silent Down Jacket XS in store a while ago and it fit my small frame perfectly, like other Patagonia XS jackets. I didn't buy it then, and got the dusty red color when I saw it this year and goodness it is massive! I don't know if it was redesigned to be bigger or whatever but I'm swimming in it. Which is weird because the regular down jacket lineup was redesigned to be so narrow that the XS doesn't even fit me.Why so much inconsistency in sizes Patagonia! For a short style like this, you can make a slim fit because it doesn't cover our hips. For a longer style like the down sweater, it needs more room because women have hips. But you're doing the opposite! At least make an XXS here for us who love the soft fabric.

So soft!
5 October 2022

I really love this jacket. It is a good length for me, I am 5ft 10in. I tried a large on in store, but it felt a little off. I bought the xl online and I have to say that the length is awesome. The sleeves are a smidge too long, but I vastly prefer that over smidge too short sleeves on a jacket like this. Maybe what feels like a smidge too long to me is what its supposed to feel like! My only concern is that the silent down fabric will stain easily. I have a toddler and Im prone to spills anyway. Im confident about getting even red wine out of white cotton shirts, but this blue down coat seems like it could stain easily since it is so soft. By the way, there are drawstrings at the base, so even though it is a little wide in the tummy, it can be drawn in to prevent ... MoreI really love this jacket. THE most perfect down ever made -- PLEASE BRING THIS BACK FOR THE NEXT SEASON!!
12 February 2023

I just cannot believe there are no more colors other than black anymore! This is hands down the most incredible jacket I've ever worn. I've had mine for nearly 2 years and it has held up beautifully. I've worn it on every occasion, during fall, winter, and spring, and the compliments are literally endless. It's as soft and as light as can be. If Patagonia were to bring more colors back, I would buy at least 2-3 more of these jackets. I own countless Pata-jackets/coats and this is by-far my favorite and most well-loved jacket of theirs. PLEASE BRING THIS BACK! Never, ever ever, retire this jacket. If the Better Sweater is such a Patagonia mainstay, this jacket better be too!

The best jacket ever
28 November 2022

I have been looking for something warmer and more comfortable than my down sweater for the last several years. This coat is it. The down sweater always felt a little restrictive in the fit with a 36C bust, it was barely big enough. My new jacket is the softest warmest and most comfortable jacket ever. I love the snap option so that as I get warm on a hike or walk I can unsnap and then zip up when the chill gets intense. It is a beautiful color, I got the blue grey and looks more stylish than the down sweater. The high neck is so soft against the skin and the pockets are soft on the inside. It is light as a feather, so pleased. I sized up to a large but could have worn the medium just fine. I can move very easily in it, the fabric is so soft, I might never want to ... MoreI have been looking for something warmer and more comfortable than my down sweater for the last several years. The softest, most comfortable coat ever!
22 November 2022

I've owned my Silent Down jacket since 2018 and it is STILL going strong, 4 years later. It is the softest and quietest down coat, making it super comfortable and my preferred coat for everyday wear. Perfect for living in Chicago and running errands, shopping, anything where you would need mobility and comfort while keeping warm and it's lightweight enough that you can take it off indoors while carrying it around without bulk or heaviness. The sleeve cuff is one of my favorite parts - it gives a great seal from the cold and wind, and gloves fit around it perfect so you don't get any coldness entering your arms. I wouldn't use this coat for skiing or hours-long winter exposure, as it isn't water proof or long enough to keep cold from your thighs and legs, but for ... MoreI've owned my Silent Down jacket since 2018 and it is STILL going strong, 4 years later. I wouldn't use this coat for skiing or hours-long winter exposure, as it isn't water proof or long enough to keep cold from your thighs and legs, but for those days I layer it under another thigh-length waterproof shell. Again, because of the lack of bulk and the softness of this jacket it is extremely comfortable to fit underneath another coat. It's easy to wash in the washer/dryer as long as you follow the instructions so I expect I'll be using this coat for another decade. In conclusion, this coat is used 85% of the time in the winter for me. For the 15% polar vortex or long activity days, I wear this underneath a waterproof, thigh-length shell from another parka I have and it's a very warm and comfy combo. Trust me - this is the coat you didn't know you needed.
