First let me say I love the smooth , polished look this fleece has on the outside while still being super cozy and warm ! It is a more fitted sweater than most casual fleece and looks good on a small , lean person ! Very flattering for someone like me , it might not work for a thicker person or someone who likes a roomy fit unless they size up ! I will order another in a brighter blue as I would love to have a collection of theses ! I also adore the half zip design as again it tends to work well with an over jacket or coat without being bulky ! Truly great quality , well finished with knit edging ! Really love theses year after year ! Thank you ! Don't change a thing ( except maybe more colors ) !

I am 5'1" with narrow shoulders. I tried on a S and a M and the sizing is just awkward. The difference between the small and medium is the wider shoulders, but the armscye is a little tight and there is absolutely no stretch or give in the bottom hem. I can get it on my hips, but the sweater has no give or stretch and it just looks odd with the roomy shoulders with the tight bottom hem. The bottom hem falls at the widest part of the hip, and the sizing should accommodate the hips, which are typically the widest part of a woman's body. Patagonia appears to have their patterns drafted for junior sizing. I can't go any larger, or the shoulders will be awkwardly large on my curvy petite frame.

I love the Better Sweater line. I have been purchasing and wearing them since the earliest iterations. I still own and wear three pieces from 2011. For being over 10 years old, I haven't had too much of an issue with pilling, relatively minor. The fit of these quarter zip fleeces are a slim fit so they do fit closer to the body. Many folks say this line runs small, which I agree with somewhat. I am 5'8" and a size 12-14 and pretty busty on top and wear the XL in Better Sweater products. I generally wear a short sleeved capilene top underneath with no issue. I do think the newest iterations run a bit more narrow in the shoulders and arms and the body of the fleece feels a bit longer than my 10+ year old Better Sweaters. I’ve owned several Patagonia fleece pullovers over the last 10-15 years and they’re generally my favorite go-to rather than hoodies or coats. I was so excited to get this Retro Pile pull over. I love the fit, look and color as well as the zipper pockets but this thing sheds and it’s very disappointing and frustrating! It’s the worst when I wear it in the car and my seatbelt rubs against it. I then have red fuzzies all over my car and then it sticks to my clothes and gets on anyone else in the car. I keep finding little fuzzies all over the house from it too. I have never had this happen with any other Patagonia item and I will probably avoid buying from them if this is what to expect now.

I think the sleeves are a good length as well. This sweater is super comfortable, warm. I got the "birch white" and it is true to the color on the website. This item will be a new cold weather staple for me. If you prefer a more relaxed fit try Columbia or LL Bean who make similar products with roomier cuts. I like the full zip version of this better than the T-zip which I also have. On my T-zip, the sleeves are too short and on this one they are just right. I bought this fleece hoping to replace one that I've had for over 30 years. I loved the color (cream with blue piping) and the weight of the material (very cozy.) After wearing the jacket no more than a few times, the piping around the sleeve started to unravel. Normally, I would fix it myself but was annoyed that the jacket would start to fall apart so quickly. I paid $12 to send it in to Patagonia for repairs. I then received an email stating that it would take take approximately 14 weeks for the repair to be completed. I've been a long-standing customer of Patagonia for many years and have never requested a repair before because I've never needed to. This entire interaction, from purchase to repair request is certainly testing my loyalty.
Some ambivalence here. The jacket's design and features are good. The Hemlock Green color is really beautiful. The material is, for a fleece, somewhat lightweight but very soft and comfy. That said, the jacket runs very, very small and fits a bit strangely. The arms are adequately long but are on the tight side (even for someone thin). The overall length of the jacket is also decent, but with movement, tends to ride up in the back. Haven't washed it yet, but noticed that there are no directions written in English. The jacket is also very pricey, and were it not on sale, I wouldn't have purchased it.
The better sweater is a perfect sweater for all areas that sweaters are needed. I have been shopping REI as a member for several years and have purchased numerous sweaters. My wife and I both really love these sweaters. Full zip up and comfortable fitted for all activities. You can dress these up or down depending on where you’re going. My wife is in the medical field and the hospital has a way of making sure they keep the temperature down and she can match the color option or code to her scrubs. During the outbreak of COVID she was working double shifts so 24 hours with this sweater on and every night she would throw it in the wash and they all still look new. I bought this sweater jacket because it is the trendy jacket to wear around the hospital and I have been looking for a warm, middle weight jacket that I can wear indoors and outdoors. This jacket does not disappoint! Since it arrived, I have worn it almost every day. It is great for outdoor wear around town during the Northeast fall, but is streamlined enough that I can throw a shell over top of it if needed, and yet is un-jacket-ish enough that I can keep wearing it indoors like I would a sweater. I love the blue color, the pocket placement, and the trim over the cuffs. The zipper on the collar does not rub, like some fleeces tend to do.
