Wow! This is a monster rulebook of the first order and the quality is outstanding. A colossal tome including all of the rules for the Pathfinder 2nd Edition game in glorious full-colour and with one of the best layouts of any rule book Ive EVER seen. This is a magnificent item and the awesome cover of this collectible, limited-edition copy adds a special touch. One for the bookshelf for sure!

Having played 5e for many years I lost interest as I could no longer provide my players with appropriate challenge due to its increasingly broken nature. Pathfinder 2e on the other hand is a well balanced and thought through game.

A beautiful book as is usual from FFG. Has kaminoans, bith, and skakoans as the species. Droid Specialist, Sapper, and Shipwright for the specializations. Signature Abilties: The Harder they Fall, and Unmatched Ingenuity. Electro-Magnetic Tow cable stats, etc. Rules for crafting ships but they are big on text from what i have seen so far, so narratively focused.

I have been playing TTRPG products for nearly 30 years and this product has really reflected how we have advanced as a society. I have read a lot of the reviews bashing it for being "PC", but one of the biggest problems this community faces is inclusion. One of the most frustrating parts of all my years playing is watching someone who is different because of their sex, or their sexuality, or their disability either not be included and if they are no one makes the effort to understand why they game. When I started wanting diversity in my games and I started seeking it out, my games got more enjoyable. It brought in themes and ideas that I could not even imagine and made the worlds I GM so much more immersive. Paizo has gone to great lengths to try and bring everyone to the table, they also include it in their world and strive to make everyone different and fleshed out because when everyone is able to play to their strengths the game is more fun. The rules are thought out well, they took risks while exploring what has made other games successful and created their own brand that will be around just as long as 1E was.
I sincerely appreciate the wish to be inclusive, but this edition takes that a little far, even including the PC's preferred gender pronouns, disabilities, etc. The writers suggest putting an "X-card" on the table that players can tap when they feel uncomfortable. Please... How about a simple suggestion that players have common sense and a bit of sensitivity, and leave it at that? The PC stuff is not a problem in itself, but it's so of the moment that it does contribute to breaking the mood of what is, after all, a *medieval* storytelling game. On the positive side, the typography is much brighter and crisper than in the first edition.
My first impression is that it feels like a hybrid of pathfinder and 5th edition dungeons and dragons. Gone are Base attack bonus, skill points, and rolling for hp. That is good because the number of feats and class options for even a simple character seems larger. This is just the core book so im sure it will get quite complex with new material. I can't wait to get a group to play it.
No longer anchored in its 3.5 traditions , the developers at paizo have completely rebuilt a new system for the game they love. Character Customization is still the strength and spotlight, yet the game feels balanced. The three action system is brilliant, leading to many more options in combat and strategy. The Proficiency system, levels of success and archtypes are all great , clean and simple additions, yet they had depth and room for expansion. The book is also beautifully layed out with many many great pieces of art. Many adventures await with this new system.
I have played Pathfinder for several years and I really have enjoyed the versatility of the system and all of the supplemental material which was made available for it. When I saw a new book was out, I had to have it. So when Paizo released this second edition, naturally I was curious. To be patently honest, I can see that a lot of work went into this edition, and that it was likely influenced by a lot of player's requests, and ideas. That's all good. However, I don't see anything overly compelling about the new edition that makes me want a whole new series of books. The first edition works very well as it is. Pathfinder was a vast improvement even over the 3.5 edition AD&D, so it was exciting to explore the new possibilities. Pathfinder was a vast improvement even over the 3.5 edition AD&D, so it was exciting to explore the new possibilities. I've gone through and generated a character for the new 2nd edition and it just doesn't have the same wow factor for me. I felt that I would have better spent the time generating a first edition Pathfinder character. Even 5th edition D&D had more exciting character development than 2nd edition Pathfinder. In this ever tightening economic crunch of our real world unemployment and underemployment, I can't really see the value in the reboot.
I've been meaning to pickup a copy of the Pathfinder second edition Core Rule book for awhile now and, with my online group about to start a P2e campaign, I finally broke down and bought a copy. The character set up has been streamlined somewhat, similar to Dungeons and Dragons 5e, though the break down of differences in how skills work for the player still throw me a bit. I like the options for customizing your character at each level. Though some options, like the Alchemist class's Chirurgeon specialty, seem way more useful than others.I do really like the sense that the player characters will be notably powerful within their world. There's some changes that should make it harder to have a critical failure happen and feats, split between class feats and general feats, come regularly enough for leveling to feel significant. I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays.
It is a bit intimidating, at over 600 pages for a rulebook, it makes you wonder if you can ever really start playing. It is full of information, but laid out in a way that is easy to read and learn. Classes are explained well, gameplay rules are easy to follow, items are nicely charted, and the hardcover edition is extremely durable. Good thing because I will be turning pages in this book for a long time to come.
