Matterial works best for those who want a medium-high hold with a dry textured finish. Great for a "messy" textured look. This will work best on straight to slightly wavy hair under 2 inches. I highly recommend Matterial to men with thinning hair, as it makes the hair look thicker, when applied properly. This product has a lot of grip, so combing through it is not gonna happen. As with most paste/clay products, it should be applied to dry hair only (towel dried at the wettest) - or you'll be going through a can every two weeks. Apply a pea sized amount to the palm of your hands - rub them together to get an even distribution of product (while also warming it up), then apply with a light hand.

So I would buy Mitch Reformer from the salon I went to for years. I ended up moving out of the area a few years ago so when I used up my supply, I took to Amazon. I knew it was called MITCH and had a bright red orange label, so I found that design and ordered it. I started using it for the first time and I thought the product went bad somehow. After 5 seconds of trying to work it into my hair it hardened like concrete and stopped my hand in its tracks. Thes. I’m n if I didn’t literally run a gallon of tap water to wash it off, I would have sticky hands the rest of the day. I reached out to my old stylist because I was planning on sending it to the manufacturer. She told me MITCH introduced a new product called Matterial and it comes in the SAME EXACT CONTAINER AND ... Considering this product isn’t cheap, it kinda ticked me off. I do not like the product at all and I think it’s somewhat absurd they would use the same container. Wish I had one good thing to say, but Reformer is far superior to Matterial in every way in my humble opinion.

Far and above the best hair product I've ever used. Non greasy. Super hold. I was an American Crew Fiber guy before they changed their formula. This Paul Mitchel product is the creme de le creme.

Far and above the best hair product I've ever used. Non greasy. Super hold. I was an American Crew Fiber guy before they changed their formula. This Paul Mitchel product is the creme de le creme.
After years and years of testing and trying different products from different brands (hanz de fuko, salon guy, blumaan, redken...), found this one. It has extremely strong hold, smooth and light creamy texture (gets stickier when rubbed into palms), very easy to apply and “proper” matte effect in my hair. Other clays always have some sort of reflection or little bit of wet look. Finally found what I was looking for my short to medium hairstyle with matte finish.
I've been using this MITCH styling clay for a while now, and thought I had brought enough with me to Australia. Because I have been delayed in Australia longer than expected, I ran out and could not find any retail shop selling this. Luckily I found it online with Oz Hair & Beauty. Ordering was easy, it shipped as per order, arrived as expected. Thank you Oz Hair & Beauty.
The MVRCK sculpting clay did a better job of holding my hair in place, but it required multiple washes to get it out of my hair. Still hoping that Paul Mitchell will formulate a product that works as well as MVRCK but wash cleanly away like this product.
Love this styling product! Holds perfectly without any shine – exactly what I needed for my hair. Definitely recommend for great results!
I’m sure it’s great. It’s Paul Mitchell. Sadly they sent me a different product.
In the past, I have been looking for a product that worked well on my hair that was not greasy or sticky and would hold up for a long time. I tried a different barber shop and they had the Paul Mitchell Strong Hold Ultra-Matte Finish Hair Product and used some on my hair after the cut. I loved the barbershop manly scent and asked about it. I had them order me some and ever since I have used this product and will not go back to any other product for my hair. It is a great product and I will continue to use it! The product is a little expensive but it is worth it to me. Guys try this and I believe you will love it!
This product was amazing just the way it was. It no longer holds and mold the way the original red and black product did. Hope you all will go back to the same ingredients as before.
