My criteria are geared toward mildness--I need something that doesn't irritate and won't strip my face or damage my moisture barrier. I imagine if this were the only cleanser being used, it might not have enough oomph to clean away a day's worth of makeup and dirt, but I don't expect it to. It works exceedingly well to prevent dryness and irritation I get when using harsher cleansers. And its slippery texture allows me to massage the skin without tugging or friction, which helps loosen pore buildup in my oily areas. Win-win as I can balance both my dry and oily areas. My other go-to is LaRoche Posay Toleriane, which has a similar texture and mildness. At full retail price, the PC is half the cost of the LRP per ounce. Sometimes I prefer the LRP because it is a slightly simpler formula which has less potential to cause irritation. However, I have a very soft spot for the entire PC Skin Recovery line. It never disappoints in handling extremely dry and/or sensitive skin concerns, and Skin Recovery cleanser is among my favorite staples!

With these products, I managed to get the result from the collage (photos are the same in both reviews). As you can see, my skin is still quite sensitive and not all redness have disappeared. But of course, your skin needs to get used to a new product (sometimes up to 6 weeks) and my skin was extremely sensitive when I started using this product. I am delighted with the result myself and I am wondering if my skin may be even more refurbished with longer use. Or possibly by adding another product to my routine. Thanks@paulaschoice in years I feel better about my skin and more comfortable to go out without foundation. The Skin Recovery cleaning is a stay! 🤩 ⚠️ See also my review of the Toner I used with this product. This is the Skin balancing toner.

I've been using this for almost 7 years. I have dry/sensitive skin with breakouts. This cleanser is so creamy, soothing, and gentle. It washes off without leaving any greasy residue but leaves my skin feeling smooth and not tight/dry. It doesn't cause breakouts. It's very good at removing makeup. I double cleanse at night with this and a wash cloth.

Best cleanser ever!

Awesome cleanser, yes, it leaves my skin clean and soft. On occasion, I need to wash twice to make sure my eye make-up has all been removed. Request for Paula's team. Can we make the products (such as this cleanser) refillable. I would like to be able to buy the larger size and use it to refill the smaller size. Better for traveling, easier to handle and it takes up less space on my bathroom sink or cabinet. P.S. to Paula. I am the person who once commented that, "the dermatologist that I worked for, had your book in his library." Because I was already a fan and owned the book, I mentioned it to him. He replied, "that book is my bible!" Finally found the perfect PC Cleanser
6 August 2023

I've used PC skincare for about 7 years and have never been over-the-moon about her cleansers...UNTIL NOW! The Skin Recovery cleanser is the perfect, creamy consistency to cleanse my dry, sensitive skin. My skin feels SOFT, SOOTHED and HYDRATED after cleansing, rather than that "squeaky clean dry" feel! My skin looks fresh and bright. I've never experienced anything like this, even with the other PC cleansers that I tried and never re-ordered. All the other Skin Recovery items I use I love just as much so I have come to discover the Skin Recovery line is the line for me (well, throw in a few Resist for Dry Skin items, too)!

Irritates My Skin
13 May 2024

The Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Glycine Soja Oil, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, and Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract in this product all irritate my skin and cause me to break out. I have a known ragweed allergy (i.e. cucumber, watermelon). This product is not for me. But the consistency of the wash is so luxurious, I wish I could love it. I can't live without the Skin Recovery toner. Paula, make a cleanser for us allergy prone (and leave out the Dimethicone)!

Love this!
23 June 2024

I have been looking for a replacement for my beloved moisture boost cleanser and I'm shocked it took me so long to land on this one. I really like how this is a cream cleanser and not a foaming cleanser. It leaves my skin hydrated and doesn't sting my eyes or sensitize my face. I found it worked better at removing makeup than the new calm cleanser. I still miss my moisture boost, but this will do nicely! I suppose I never tried it before since my skin leans more oily, but this did the trick.

Loveee for Very Dry Melanated skin!
18 November 2022

I'm African American with very dry skin, and the winter makes it worse (visiting Boston for an extended time right now). But with this cleanser I have seen nothing but hydration, no more dryness, flaking, tight skin, & irritation/ burning from actives due to over-dried skin. Was using Resist cleanser, which worked in Houston weather, but is not sufficient in Boston's colder/drier temp on extremely dry skin. I needed more hydration and this cleanser helps me start off right, keeping my skin hydrated enough to use actives without getting irritated due to over-dryness. I'm going to keep using this when I return to Houston! Also, purchasing for my little sister. My both sisters are now using PC because of me!

SUPERB, GENTLE, EFFECTIVE CREAM CLEANSER! BIG BOTTLE!
30 May 2023

I have been using Paula's cleansers since they were first introduced many years ago. As my skin has "matured", I have needed to change cleansers along the way (but always PC cleansers!) This cream cleanser is perfect for my 60+ skin! My skin alternates between combination and dry, depending on the time of year. This great cleanser works beautifully, no matter what season my skin is in! It cleanses away all of my makeup and water-resistant sunscreen without stripping or drying my skin at all. It leaves my skin clean and soft. It's gentle even around my eyes. I think it would work well for anyone at any age who is looking for a gentle but thorough cleanser. The large bottle is a great value, especially during sale promotions. If my skin gets dry and itchy in the winter, I use it as a body wash, too! Thank you, PC, for making this superb cleanser in the large bottle!

I do NOT Have rosacea, i have barely even had a pimple in my life and im 46, but black smoke came into my nyc apt through all our vents, during the pandemic and was irritating my face, but we couldnt see the black smoke for months, so I assumed it was aging and started exfoliated and using vit c, and ha over time, so i stripped my face and allowed the air to imbed in my face and my face swelled over, eyes swollen shut and i burnt my face off. I went from thick soft sicilian skin with zero redness or bumps ever, to a face that got terrible comments on social media. 4 years later i am still dealing with it to heal it. I do have a biology background, so i became a skin chemist basically to figure it out. One derm forced rosacea on me and my face bled. I figured out what it was. I completely stripped my skin barrier, even water burned my face, HA and niacinmide burned my face, all creams burned my face, and since i had no barrier all i put on my face when INTO my face and created perioral dermatitis, i sourced the RX for it, but the naturium cleanser for skin barrier was the only cleanser I could use. once they stopped stocking it, I searched for one that was similar and this one came up. But in a weeks time, its made my face raw, red, irritated, eyes irritated, and a break outs with rough skin patches. I dont write reveiws, but this skin barrier issue is no joke, and nothing the "world" says to do works and actually makes it worse. so i wanted to share in hopes it helps prevent the next persons blow
