I recently got back into cycling after about 10 years of injury-forced absence. I had two pair of Pearl shorts with their "3D Pro" chamois (purchased in 2005 and 2006) which I like a lot. After a few rides the chamois delaminated from one of them. I went in search of new shorts and found it very difficult. I knew I liked Pearl, but couldn't figure out which currently available shorts would replace my old ones. Finally found a LBS with a lot of shorts and a knowledgeable sales person who directed me to these shorts. I bought 2 pair from them at full price. Then decided I needed a third pair and found them at Sun & Ski at a discount. I definitely recommend these shorts, and Sun & Ski.

This pair of bibshorts are very disappointing, the materials used are sub-par for $125. The shoulder straps and material above the waist are the same material as the rest of the bibshorts, which does not breath well. I am use to a mesh or very breathable material in that area so sweat collects. The pad does not feel like a mult-density pad but is adequate for rides up to about 3 hours. The silicone leg grippers do their job but remind me of bibshorts from 10 years ago. Pre-pandemic these would have been $50 bibshorts, so even on sale at $75 is not a real bargain. I am 5'8" and 160 pounds and the size medium fits well and offers the right amount of support, just wish the materials were better.

I have owned and used this style for a long time. After spending the past decade raising my kids I have been wearing my Attack shorts from around 2009 on and off a couple times a month for a decade. I decided I needed new shorts so I bought these on sale. This new product is ridiculously inferior it’s crazy. The chamois is like a giant uniform diaper. They are hugely uncomfortable and I will now need to look elsewhere. I love(d) my originals but seriously don’t buy these.

I've ridden some stellar bibs and some horrid ones, and these are high into the stellar region. The chamois moved around a little when I first bought them, so I wasn't sure how I felt about them from the start. After a few rides, I can say that the chamois has settled in and I can put in both short, 30-45 minute rides, and long 2+ hour long rides without issue. I can't speak to doing a century in these yet, but they should be good. Most of my longer rides have been split, I ride with a friend and then go pick up my wife to do another ride. Even after sitting in the car, the bibs get back on saddle fine.
I have two pair of old Quest bike shorts that I love, but after years of use, they are loosing their stretch. There is no comparison between the design and construction of the old shorts and these new Quest shorts: the old shorts use all low-profile flatlock seams, the new shorts have raised seams (=chafe), uncomfortable chamois that is stitched with a zigzag stitch (=major chafe point along the edge of the chamois) and the front part of the waist band is sewn so the lower edge sticks out (again=chafe). These are being returned. (And so much for my impression that the name Pearl Izumi is synonymous with quality.)
The two (BIG) issues I have with these shorts are:1) Like another reviewer, I had to check multiple times that these were in fact men's shorts and not women's. There is absolutely zero accommodation up front! They might fit a eunuch, but not an adult male without severe compression. Have never had this a pair of cycling shorts before. Not ergonomic at all.2) The chamois is comically large with a terribly crude sewing pattern that is causing me a lot of chaffing at the edges of the stitching, especially up front at the top of each leg.I rarely, if ever review products, but I'm so dissatisfied with these shorts that I just had to in this case.It looks like the construction of these shorts has changed in the last year or so because most older reviews are good, ... Good shorts for the money. Basic, functional, comfortable, well-made.The chamois is comfortable for short rides. I use these for a lot of indoor rides which tend to be shorter. After a couple of years the chamois is a little packed out and doesn't offer as much support as when it was new. But even after a lot of use and washes, they hold their shape, have no frayed threads, and promise to be useful for a long time to come. Durable product, well made and designed.Nothing fancy, and probably not made for long rides, but that's why they're priced the way they are. Would recommend if you're looking for a value short in this price range.
I had the old version of this model. LOVE THEM. Comfy, durable, and a good price. So I happily replaced them after many years and thousands of kilometres. I was pretty bummed when I put on the revised version. They've changed the chamois/padded section... and it boggles the mind why they would do this, but there is now an *internal crease* down the middle of the chamois padded section. I've never seen any brand of cycling shorts do this. And yet, it's about as comfortable as it sounds. Too bad. Hope Pearl Izumi corrects this massive design flaw going forward, or I'll be switching brands.
I own a pair of the lower-priced Pearl Izumi bibs, and I like them, but these are definitely a "step up" in fit, comfort and features. The chamois is well-designed, well-padded and well-placed. The "spandex" fabric is a nice weight and texture, providing some feeling of support without being too constricting. I like the bib/shoulder strap design on these better than their cheaper pair, as they get into position easier, and the strap/bib fabric is less likely to wrinkle/roll up or otherwise take on a "funny" shape. They also seem to be a bit more forgiving for long torso's, less "pulling down" on shoulder straps etc. than the less expensive version. As far as the "back trap" for restroom breaks without having to partly disrobe, it works well so far.. unknown if it ... Reflective logo on hip, and reflective strip on opposite thigh are nice touches. Overall, I'm very pleased with these cycling bibs, delighted to find a pair this comfortable for my long-ish torso, appreciate the convenient access for restroom breaks and value for the price. Finding them on sale was an added bonus! :D
The last Pearl Izumi cycling shorts I bought have at least 4,000 miles on them. I machine wash them, dry them in the dryer, and otherwise generally don’t take superb care of them. They are still unbelievably comfortable. I bought the Attack shorts for occasional use with an indoor bike in another city, thinking they would be similarly great… they are not. The overall feel is just cheap and rigid. The chamois is not contoured, and feels sort of like sitting on a piece of styrofoam. If these were half the cost, I’d understand, but they are priced like a decently upper-mid-level product. Going to try something else next.
