The compact and lightweight green 8-16x21 U-Series UP Binoculars combine aspherical optical elements and BAK4 Porro prisms to deliver edge-to-edge image sharpness with a wide angle of view. The optical elements are also fully multicoated to provide a high transmission of light. With an 8-16x range of magnification and 21mm objectives, you obtain a wide zooming range and a compact form factor. You can easily spot your targets with a 5° angular field of view at 8x magnification and quickly zoom in on them with the optical zoom. To reduce image jitter at high zoom factors or for prolonged observations, you can connect the binoculars to a tripod via an integrated 1/4"-20 socket. In addition to observing distant scenes, birds and game, the minimum focus of 63.8' allows you to study in detail close objects like animal footprints, marks or landscape features. The binoculars also feature a 2.6-1.3mm exit pupil range, a 14-11mm eye relief range, an interpupillary and a diopter adjustments. The binoculars are very compact, lightweight, and feature a single piece frame that houses objectives, which allows for a synchronized interpupillary adjustment. To accommodate eye glasses wearers, the binoculars offer sliding rubber eyecups. Also included are a carrying case, a neck strap, and eyepiece covers.

They always had a little double vision, but I assumed this could be adjusted when I got around to it. These cannot be adjusted and since I didn't realize until after 18 months FLO could not help. The 24 month warranty does not cover this type of issue for the whole period. Alignment at a local shop costs more than what I paid for them so they had to be discarded basically unused. My bad and my loss. If they had been aligned from the factory it would be an easy 5 star. Surprisingly good optics and the zoom is smooth. These are the next step up from the 8x close focus(18") set I purchased previously. I wanted a little more magnification and these extend it to from 8x to 16x. Very good for Florida bird watching from the lanai. They are a great set of binoculars at a fair price.

Great value, bright and sharp images. I especially like the long zoom range (8x-16X) in a compact package. I would recommend this product to anyone wanting a flexible binocular in this price range.

They always had a little double vision, but I assumed this could be adjusted when I got around to it. These cannot be adjusted and since I didn't realize until after 18 months FLO could not help. I have really nice (and heavy) larger binoculars with much wider objective lenses that I use for hunting and keep in the car, but I found myself only taking a 6x rangefinder in my backpack when hiking (carrying 42 oz worth of binocular is too much... that much weight is better spent on photo gear or water!) so I knew I needed a lighter set of binoculars. I didn't expect much out of these, but I liked the design and the 8-16 zoom feature was intriguing. I am very happy with this purchase and these binoculars will be with me on every hike from now on. The weight is about what I expected, but just to give you some specific details: 11.0 oz Binoculars alone (no strap, case, or caps) 11.66 oz Binoculars w/ strap and lens cap 13.40 oz Binoculars w/ strap, cap, case The case is very nice (much, much nicer than I expected) and the strap has a very nice easy-clip design that makes perfect sense and seems very secure, especially for this size binocular. OK, so in bright light the 16x21 is actually usable and a little tough to focus, but definitely nice to have. The important thing is that these work extremely well at 8x21, which is what I was hoping. So the extra range is great to have, and there is only a small weight penalty for that. Of course it's a little shaky above 10x or so, but anybody with half a brain would expect that. For any outdoor activities (concerts, sports, hiking, etc.) these would work very well. Probably not the best for hunting since you'd need something a little brighter (which of course means more weight) for dusk/dawn spotting. The focus and zoom knobs are very smooth. The diopter knob is centered, which I find to be very intuitive and smartly designed. The diopter knob is a push button design that, once set, can be pushed in so it's not confused with the zoom and focus knobs. Smart. From the photo I thought the knobs might be confusing and wondered if the Nikon design of sliding lever for zoom and knob for focus might be better, however after using the Pentax I think its knobs probably make more sense and are ergonomically very well designed. The only real negative is the eye relief; it's very shallow and I cannot use these with my glasses. Having said that, I often prefer to extend the eye cups and flip my glasses up anyway, especially in bright light (which is typical when we're hiking) so this isn't an issue for me. However, if you are passing these binoculars back and for with others it would be a pain because they would have to adjust the diopter. In summary, I think this Pentax binocular is an extremely good value and I'm very pleased with this purchase. It's nice to be pleasantly surprised to find such a well thought out design at this price point, with such solid build quality. I won't name any other brands or models, but I've returned binoculars at this price point before, but I'll be keeping these and would consider them as gifts for others.
These are good quality binoculars, but: Much smaller than I expected. About the size of Big Mac! Much lighter than expected. Less than a Big Mac! So light that it defies the quality of the power and the lenses. Great Binoculars!
I recently took my family on a trip to Yellowstone and purchased four sets of Binoculars. I wanted a pair that had a reasonable distance zoom, and these looked good on paper and had reasonably good reviews on B&H; so, I pulled the trigger. These are relatively good binoculars for the money. We had three different brands and types of binoculars to choose from:Nikon 10x50 Aculon A211 BinocularsCelestron Outland X 8 x 24Pentax 8-16 x 21U-SeriesMy family pretty much unanimously liked the Nikon 10x50 Aculon A211's. They have a wider field of view, better clarity, and were brighter. We purchased refurbished models, and for my money, I would repurchase those and forgo the Pentax.
Just finished two weeks safari in Africa with these. They are light and easy to adjust. They were quite adequate for this purpose. They would be good for cruising too. I am happy that the Vancouver store rep recommended these for my price range.
This is my second pair of Pentax Binoculars. My last one was stolen along with my truck. There are so many different brands/models out there many of which I own. These are my favorite compact binoculars. Clarity, construction and features are what it's all about. These are great.
I'm quite happy for this binocular. Maybe magnification is not as big asmy previous no-name Chinese product (this one has max 16, my previous had 20), but I prefer Pentax. It has set of 3 regulators just in the center and is really easy and quick to get focus. In my previous binocular it took 10-20 seconds, and still image wasn't so sharp like in the Pentax. Besides, it is small but bright enough to watch all birds when I hike.
I really like these binoculars. The 8x16 zoom is very useful and retains focus throughout the range. It's not for night time use but that's not what I wanted. The eye cups stay in place, both focus and zoom are smooth. Can't ask for much more at this price. Only nit: wish the lens cap were tethered to the binos.
