A drastic downgrade in product quality

The manufacturer has drastically degraded the quality of the litter. I've had this box for nearly 2 years now and had no problem with it up until a few months ago. My cats are also having a hard time with it nearing the 10 days and don't want to use it. I don't blame them.I'll probably look into upgrading to a higher quality litter box like the litter robot.

So, buckle up, this is going to be a long review.I have done the math to replace the trays vs having the reusable with crystals, and it's just not worth it for us. Also, we have 2 of these autoboxes, with 3 regular litter boxes as well set up. It's good to give them choices if you have the room. Also, keep in mind that some cats are lazy and will use the system as intended (pee/poo and leave), but some will bury. You may have to even the crystals out a few times after usage. At one time we had 4 cats in the house, and the system worked great....Until one of our cats got diagnosed with diabeties. Over the course of 5 years, we dwindled our collection of kitties to the one (each living to voting age mind you), and our one cat with diabeties was all that was left of the pack. We had to change these trays almost weekly (he peed A LOT), as well as scoop the regular litter boxes sometimes 4 times a day. These trays were amazing, soaked up A LOT of pee. When our last kitty went over the rainbow bridge, we thought about giving these away, but we ended up blessed with 2 kittens. Now, our kittens are skittish, but danggit if they didnt fall in love with the automatic litter tray..... they play in it constantly. They also have 2 of the regular litter boxes to go with the autobox, and let me tell you, at 3am in the morning when our Winnie gets in there to do her business, she goes to town. She digs to China, then back. Whatever the material they use on the bottom of these trays has withstood 68 of these attempts (as of this morning - and a week of use).If you have a cat that pees a lot (like a diabetic cat) or has the liquid poops, this system is not for you. You will be changing the litter tray out once if not twice a week. Liquid poops are another special treat, where then you have to take the whole system and clean it - which is a bit of a pain, but still not too bad. I complain, but I would do it again for our little furbabies. Now, on to the best part of the reviews that I like, the cats review.5/5 meows, would pee (and probably poo) here again. Skitter Skitter

Simple to switch trays. No mess, no scooping daily, no odor. Kitties love clean box and use it every time. Some cats that hate odor will use other hidden bathroom locations when other regular litter boxes need scooping.

Perfect Low Maintenance Option
12 April 2024

I have been using a PetSafe automatic litter box and the trays since 2016. I change the tray about every two weeks or so. I am sure it could go longer, but I don't ever want to smell the litter box and my cat prefers in to be clean. I find that with one cat the crystals seems to get saturated with urine around the two week mark. It is not the most cost effective option, but is the most low maintenance. When I am ready to throw a tray away I pop the lid on, tape it shut on each side, and stick it in a garbage bad. Then slide the new one under the box. I originally went this route because my cat has a clay litter allergy and I was tired of scooping every single day. I have never looked back. I have looked into other self scooping systems. Quality is really down! If I can I’ll give no star
17 June 2024

I’m a long time customer buying these boxes for 10 years now. The quality of the crystals are getting worse and worse. First the amount of the crystals in the bags are considerably less than it used to be. Then recently they are so fine almost like sand that they don’t absorb much and can’t be easily scooped by the machine. I’m very disappointed and consider alternatives as they are so expensive and unreliable. I understand for keeping the cost “low” you stopped printing anything on the boxes, you deliver them totally white, but please stop lowering the amount and quality of the product.

The box itself works great but don't let them fool you - the litter trays have INCREASED 48% in cost in the past year while the company brings in 25 million in profit. When asked why the price increase, they tell you it's due to operation costs but yet their bottom line has stayed intact. This litter box is now a useless hunk of junk sitting in my storage locker waiting for the day petsafe brings prices back down to a realistic range. They truly want you to pay 25$ for a tray of litter that lasts maybe 3 weeks. And at this rate they'll be asking you to pay even more next time you need to re-up. By the time you've bought this box and less than a years worth of their litter you could have bought one of the really nice 600$ ones that takes regular litter and still not scooped anything. Also lavender is 100% toxic to cats so why would a "petsafe" company even have lavender involved in litter that a cat directly touches multipke times per day?

URGENT PROBLEM WITH LITTER TRAYS
30 January 2024

I have been purchasing Chewy.com litter trays for years on autoship. These are the replacement trays for the Scoop Free litter boxes. My last two shipments (a total of ten trays) have been seriously LEAKING. I even ran an experiment to see if they were in fact leaking. I purchased a container box, then took the lid and fit it under the tray. The Scoop Free litter box mechanism works fine. My cat correctly uses the box due to my observation. But this morning when I replaced the tray I easily found at least a cup to a cup and a half of urine in the container lid placed under the tray. I am going to have to replace the hallway rug and pad and have the area treated. After seeing a lot of good reviews about the crystal litter, I decided to give it a try. We have two cats, and after doing a litter box change, and cleaning the litter box, (no cleaning products used, I only use dawn dish soap to clean the litter box), I then poured a bag of the PetSafe crystal litter in the litter box. Watch your cat(s), if you have never gotten crystal litter before, watch and see how they react after getting out of the box. Maybe it's just my cat. But just monitor your kitties just to be on the safe side. Anyway, I won't be using crystal litter anymore. I hope it works for your kitties!I'm tossing out this crystal litter, and will back to using tofu litter.

What Happened?!

These used to be amazing, one cat could use a tray for almost a month but now I'm lucky if a tray lasts for more than a week. My new rescue kitty hates it when her litter is dirty (as most cats do) and will go outside of the box and will pee all over my rugs after day 4 or 5 because she doesn't like the urine that gets all mixed in but not absorbed, and I'm on dialysis for kidney failure so it poses a health risk to me since I'm not really allowed to. hange the litter myself and have had to hire someone to come clean it once a week which is why I got the auto litter box in the first place! What a huge waste of money. Get it together PetSafe, if you don't fix the quality of your product then you are going to lose so many customers. wouldn’t wanna use any other litter system

I do really love this litter. I live in a studio apartment so eliminating smell is a big necessity for me. This tray stays odorless for about 2.5 weeks then will start to smell when it needs changing. This tray is so odorless it lives under my bed! I do have a male cat, so female cats maybe even be able to last longer without tray smelling. I never have to scoop which is a huge plus. I’m giving 4 stars because it is not low tracking and stepping on these crystals honestly hurts. I suggest house shoes if you don’t want to vacuum every single day lol! Very easy to clean/vacuum tracked crystals though! Switching trays is also very simple. Discharging trays in a little bit tougher. I suggest pouring out all contents of tray into trash bag.
