Philips Hue 5/6" Recessed Downlight White Ambiance, Light Lights, Bluetooth Wi Fi Zigbee

I love these lights and playing with the colors! Setup was easy in the Hue app, and then in Alexa. I spent a lot of time customizing the settings and then setting up commands and routines in Alexa. However, I was really disappointed that after running an update to the lights they would no longer connect to Alexa. They still work in the Hue app via the Bluetooth connection, but all my Alexa customization will likely be lost. Most support assumes that you have a Bridge (I've ordered one now), so there is little help for my configuration. I've also read of the same thing happening even with the hub. Everything points to completely removing them all from the Hue app and Alexa, and adding them back in. I received this free from Influenster and Philips for my honest review. I love how sleek and beautiful the design is. This light also has an app to control the light and the hue's. It is Energy efficient, works with both iso and andriod phones or tablets, it has 1100 lumens. I haven't installed this yet because I have had a cold but will definitely do it in my bathroom for relaxing bath time.

Once installed, you can choose an endless number of colors. If you want it to default to a certain color, it can be set up in the app. You can turn lights on and off with the app. Installation: If you have cans already, just screw the bulb end into the socket. It's very easy. The thing I don't like are the clips. I had to bend them, which was hard to get the right bend. They are stiff. Once you get them in, they will stay bur its not easy getting them bent to the right angle. I tore a bit of drywall bending the clips to get the light into the pot. Fortunately, it was under the lip of the light. Overall I'm pleased, just not a fan of the clips.

I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review - all opinions are my own. This is actually an extremely interesting product. It gives you the ability to easily retrofit existing can lights into a Philips smart light. The exterior is very sleek - it will look great anywhere you have can lights. And the installation is super simple (there are some great videos online if you’re curious). I think the only drawback might be the price point if you’re trying to install these in an area with more than a couple of lights. But for a small area like a bathroom, hallway, or office this is a perfect solution!

As a homeowner that has recently remodeled my entire home (well we aren’t done yet…) this light was a welcome package. I’ve installed can lights before and this one was super easy- I didn’t quite have the right can fitting for it, so that did take some looking around, but because it fits easily in the can and requires just a light socket screw in, it was super easy to install. My electrician was sad no wiring was required since we already had done the hard work before installing the previous cans. What I love most of all is the smart capabilities, I can adjust the tone from my phone, make it moody or bright. although I wasn't too pumped about another phone control- I'm sure anyone else with alexa could make it more streamlined.

[Rewarded Review] Easy setup, worked out of the box

Works well, I have installed them outside as porch lights, no issues with WiFi or talking the hue hub unit. Worked with Alexa easily and the app recognized the newly installed lights. My existing lights had a customizable bracket for ensure the light for snuggly inside the unit. These Philips lights didn’t support the bracket but comes with bendable metal brace inside, it took me a little longer to get the bracket to fit properly when installing the lights, but other than that, there were no other issues…

If you are like me, my existing recessed downlight was a direct wire LED. So, I had to cut the screw in socket plug off and direct wire it. Then, because of its larger depth size, I had to take out the existing light housing for it to fit. The width was also larger than the preexisting hole cut out in the vinyl soffet. So, I cut the hole in the vinyl out larger. I was affraid the adjustable wings were not going to hold the light tight enough against the vinyl because the wings are not that close to the outer frame that sits flush with the ceiling. I installed the light on the front porch outside, so I wanted it to not be too loose to reduce mosture entry. I especially like the ability to set colors to match my holiday decorations outside based on app automation and geofensing so the light comes on when I pull up to the house, making it easier to see when walking up to the front door. I am also a Nest doorbell user, so I wished that they communicated with one another so when the Nest video doorbell picks someone up, the Hue light would come on and make the area more visible. As a work around, I just set up automation, so the light is on for a period of time after dark to help delivery personel see when dropping off packages at the door.

I can’t give it 5* rating, as I think the Wiz sister light is better build physically. The Hue version use the 3 clip support system that may or may not give you troubles getting a snug held to the ceiling flat install. I’ve installed the 3 clip system many time is the past, however my cans aren’t installed 100% right and the clips just won’t work well with them. I could have caulked them in place, but these are smart lights that you may need access to the inside at any given moment. I cannibalized any old set of halogen retro fit to remove the spring system and made a makeshift system to support them on the Hue bulbs without damaging/modifying the light in anyway. That said I replaced 2 Wiz lights with the Hue ones as I needed a smart light proper switch to make these two lights ( 4 total but others where A19 types) compatible with a sleeping partner and not wanting to wake them talking to Alexa... Wiz still lacks 3rd party support for seamless smart lighting when you in a generation that doesn’t want to carry a phone with you all the time to bypass talking to your voice assistant... Or if teaching visitors how to use your lights... we invited them to visit, not hold a class on smart lighting :/Anyway, beyond the mounting system which may not be an issue for you, the lights are great in every other way. The addition of 2 Aurora Smart-light Dimmers the system is now user friendly, be it visitors or us two old farts that live here rofl

[Rewarded Review] Major issue selling Hue lights in wrong packaging

Best Buy really let me down on this order. I received all of the items I ordered in the correct packaging however the lights inside were not 5/6 inch recessed down lights in color and white ambiance. 2 of the lights were 4 inch lights with no color capability but did connect to my hue bridge. The other 5 were 5/6 inch lights but were hue WiFi and not Zigbee lights. I can only assume someone at Best Buy is repackaging returned lights in incorrect packaging amd then selling them as new. I had to return these to Hue under warranty due to not being installed until after 30 days from purchase. Beware buying these lights from Best Buy. Zero stars Best Buy. I filed claim with Philips Hue and purchased lights directly from them. Lights are now what I ordered and work great.
