There is no way this device can be reviewed on its own without mentioning Philips Hue ecosystem. It's useless on its own.If you already own the hub and a few of it lights, get this sensor to make the experience seamless while impressing your guest. If you have not tried "Hue smart lighting" but thinking of getting them. You've been warned it's addictive but fun. Now once you've completed your indoor lighting you can start build up outdoor lighthing as your next project. The sensor can only trigger 3 zones max, to maintain responsiveness. You can adjust sensitivity, you can setup time when you want it to work. All in the application.Highly recommended to every Hue junkies.

I am not a big fan of Hue devices due to their high price but I must confess I am very impressed with this sensor and its features:- 100 degrees field of view which is average- 15 seconds cool down whereas some others can be up to 4 MINUTES- 16ft range which is pretty decent- Built in temperature and Lux sensor which you can use as a trigger for some automation- It's suitable for a bathroom as it's IP42- Batteries can last up to 2 years- Compatible with almost all (if not all) automation platforms. I use Samsung Smart Things ( requires device handler) and Hubitat & it works like magic.- Its range can be adjusted to low, medium and high from within the Smart Things app- Installation is just beyond easy as it's got a super powerful magnet on its base ... MoreI am not a big fan of Hue devices due to their high price but I must confess I am very impressed with this sensor and its features:- 100 degrees field of view which is average- 15 seconds cool down whereas some others can be up to 4 MINUTES- 16ft range which is pretty decent- Built in temperature and Lux sensor which you can use as a trigger for some automation- It's suitable for a bathroom as it's IP42- Batteries can last up to 2 years- Compatible with almost all (if not all) automation platforms. I actually used a metal washer roughly the size of a 5c coin which I stuck to the corner of the ceiling on my hallway using a double sided tape then stuck the magnetic base of the sensor to it so no need to drill holes or anything.Tip: While testing and deciding where to install the sensor you can you masking tape rather using the double sided tape straight away.

This is one of those quality built products that just works. Everything you need to set up is in the box so with a just a screwdriver installation can be completed in minutes. The sensor is very reliable and works day after day. The Hue App is very stable and integrates well with all the major Voice environments, I have it integrated with apple home, Alexa and Google and it just works. There is no frustrating time when you have to delete and re add the sensor when it loses connectivity. I have been using these sensors for a while and they are very reliable as part of any automation scheme. I have several of these already installed as part of our overall transition to Philips Hue and automation throughout our house. Whilst a little restrictive in its usability in some area (primarily due to current setup limitations in the app), I installed them in temporary transit rooms, such as Bathroom, Toilet, Pantry and Walk-In-Robe.You can set the trigger for two distinct time periods, allowing you to set a daytime profile and nightime profile at times of your choosing. For regular daytime/evening use, light comes on bright and stays on for 10min after no motion detected then turns off. After bedtime until morning, it triggers to nightlight setting which provides plenty of light to do what you need to do, but doesn't wake you right up.Kids can wake up and go ... MoreI have several of these already installed as part of our overall transition to Philips Hue and automation throughout our house. After bedtime until morning, it triggers to nightlight setting which provides plenty of light to do what you need to do, but doesn't wake you right up.Kids can wake up and go to the toilet and pretty much go straight back to sleep. My wife or I myself, can use the ensuite and not flood the bedroom with light waking eachother up. Same for getting clothes sorted and getting dressed when one has an early morning shift and the other doesnt. Best of all, lights turn themselves off, so no ongoing waste of power.A limitation I've found on these however, if you have them in other areas, such as the living room and dining room, they work great for automatic nightime transit as the lights come on and turn off automatically. However, if you have automatic 'turn off' set in the daytime period and you manually turn on the light, such as setting a dimmed scene to watch a movie, the lights will switch off still. My suggestion, if you would like to use them for that feature at night, is to have 'Do Nothing' selected for the day/evening period. Then use the lights manually or have automated routines for lights on in the evening.
Got a few of these to fit into my Apple HomeKit setup. They are very reliable, take standard AAA batteries, and they just work. They are also small and easy to hide anywhere. The temperature and light sensors are an added bonus and allow great automatons. I have one in my office that triggers my Nanoleaf strip lighting, and 2 Lifx lamps, and if the temp is over 23 degrees, it will trigger a power point (inexpensive TP-Link KP105 via Homebride) that turns on my fan.Excellent.
The Philips Hue does what it is designed to do and does it well. It is easy to set up, it is quite small and unobtrusive. The sensitivity is adjustable. It comes with a magnet that slots into the back of the device so you can easily attach it to a household appliance such as a washing machine or fridge. I have attached one to my fridge so that as I walk into a dark kitchen it turns on the kitchen light automatically. It is set low so that my cat activates it and she can eat her feed at night with the light turned on to 50% brightness. I also have one set up so that it illuminates my path to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Overall, a great, reliable device which will have applications you haven't thought of yet.
I thought I needed dimmer switches around the house for my Hue lights, but the motion sensor is by far the most useful accessory. Walk into a room - boom light. Leave the room, and let the lights turn themselves off (set your own timeout). With the "Don't disturb my scene" formula in Hue Labs, you can disable the motion sensor if you're watching a movie or something. Set each sensor to control a discrete group of lights and you can literally have light follow you around the house.
Works super well at night as well as during the day and turns the lights on instantly when needed with no lag. Totally reliable and small so you don’t notice it in the room. Also, runs on batteries so you can literally place it anywhere and use it where you have no power points.
Once I got zigbee2mqtt up and running, it was super easy to pair up and get it talking with Home Assistant.Detection happens within 0.2 seconds on high sensitivity. The lux sensor is great for turning on the lights when it starts getting dim, without worrying about the sun angle and cloud coverage.A bit pricey compared to other brands but for main living spaces I think these are worth it.
So I have some Hue lights, but hesitated to get one of these motion sensors. They seemed way over priced. Eventually I gave in - and I am impressed. Well built. No false alarms. Provides temperature and lux (light intensity) info as well as motion detection. A nice touch is it comes with what looks like a miniature door stop - you can screw this onto the wall, and the sensor clips to it magnetically - so when the batteries do need replacing it's a lot easier to do. It would be nice if this could be angled, but that's a minor thing. Will work of course with a Hue hub, but in my case I use a ConBee II plugged into a Raspberry pi running Home Assistant. I know I could make something similar for a fifth the cost of this by using a Wemos d1 mini, but that doesn't mean ... MoreSo I have some Hue lights, but hesitated to get one of these motion sensors. I'd happily get another, although I might wait until they're on sale... ;-)
