Philips Hue Secure Contact Sensor, White (2-Pieces)
Strengthen your smart home security with the Philips Hue Secure Contact Sensor — a sleek security sensor that attaches to doors, windows, cabinets, or safes to monitor openings and closings. This battery-powered, indoor-use sensor integrates directly into your Hue system via Zigbee, enabling you to receive alerts, trigger automations, and enhance your home’s protective layer. When the sensor detects a change (e.g. a door opens), it can immediately alert you via app control or initiate smart lighting responses like switching on hallway or exterior lights. In “secure” mode, it contributes to your home’s security state, sending notifications when unexpected activity occurs. The contact sensor’s compact design lets you mount it discreetly using adhesive or screws in your choice of orientation. To access this functionality, connect it with a Hue Bridge or Hue Bridge Pro to unlock advanced features and automations within the Hue ecosystem. While it doesn’t have built-in sound detection, the sensor works seamlessly with Hue’s security features to create a coordinated response when triggered. Add voice control using Alexa, Google Home, or even Siri, and you get hands-free control and status checks. The Philips Hue Secure Contact Sensor doesn’t just monitor your home — it elevates it, making security a natural extension of your lighting system.

I used this door sensor on the sliding glass door that leads to our back deck. We wanted to have a good way of monitoring the status of this door when we are away from home and this was easily added to our existing hue system. Installing the physical device did take a couple of tries in order to make sure everything lined up correctly and that the door was able to move freely. Initially, I place it too close to the door frame and when the door slid open it caught on the frame and the door stuck but this was easily resolved by adjusting the placement slightly. We use a combination of Google Home, Home Assistant, and Philips Hue apps to manage our smart home devices. It gives easy access to the open/close status of the door or window that it is being used on as well as useful notifications for when the door has been opened.

I have put this on my front door as it has an old lock on it. I put the window on the one side of a double window. I did test them with my daughter and worked great.

This window and door sensor is easy to setup and adds a great feel of security. It connects to your home internet via a hub and when installed it will allow your window or door to always alert you if it’s been opened and you don’t hear it.

It’s on my apartment door so I know when maintenance is going into my unit. The alerts to my phone are real-time so I receive the message as it happens. So no anxiety there. Nice.
Hooking up to the bridge was a breeze! I hooked up the bridge first, which was pretty easy to do. Scanned the QR code on the instructions, and brought me right to the setup. Plugged the bridge to the outlet and then plugged into the router and waited for the lights to turn on. The only thing I was confused about was that it stated that three lights were supposed to light up, however only two did. It still was connected, however. The sensor was hooked up to my back door. It states in the directions that it needs to be within .8 of an inch near the top glossy part of the sensor. This needs to be accurate in order for the sensor to work! I had to switch to a different door in order for it to be close. The app needs to be downloaded on your phone also, in order for it ... MoreHooking up to the bridge was a breeze!
