As this is my first time using a rotary shaver, I was interested to get the latest Phillips Shaver X5000 model. Moving the shaver in a small circular movement to my skin as instructed, feel smoothly & cuts really nicely without applying too much pressure & not much irritation. I like the flexing head, can adjusts such possible angle & does shave really well such as my chin & cheeks areas, but bit struggle a bit to shave on under jaw/neck areas with a few of my hairs left showing but eventually does the job to go over effectively.I do wish the built-in battery could last bit longer for many uses of shave time & faster charge time in full, However, I like the 5-minute charge for one full shave when forgotten to charge it & urgently want to use it, which does make up ... MoreAs this is my first time using a rotary shaver, I was interested to get the latest Phillips Shaver X5000 model. Other positive side, I do like its charge by USB cable provided which is really useful choice, meaning I can be powered my shaver with any devices having USB charging slot, such as using my power bank, laptop etc which doesn’t need to be charge from power adapter wall plug. Some little downside for me, it doesn’t have integrated trimmer, not even an attachment trimmer included or either carry case, would be nice to have these as a extra bonus.Overall thoughts, A excellent shaver, fully washable, shave in wet or dry & excellent for travelling thanks to the USB cable. But just few missing pieces & ideal to have more longer shave time & faster full charge time as mentioned, that could make it the ultimate package shaver.

From the moment I opened the box I was impressed. This product is presented in a really nice way with minimal packaging.Once you take it out of the box it is very easy to charge, just plug the cable into a usb plug and leave until the charging process is complete. To use the shaver there is a simple on/off button no need to do anything else! With the 3 heads that move it is incredibly easy to get a close shave everywhere without having to change shavers. The blades work great allowing a smooth finish without any cuts or scrapes. There is also a little button that pops the top open for easy cleaningI also liked the fast charging element as there is nothing worse than grabbing your shaver to realise it does not have any charge and the battery life of this product ... MoreFrom the moment I opened the box I was impressed. What stands between us and the apes? The shaving industry. Without the likes of the Norelco X5004 and its ilk, there would be almost no limit to the number of men (and some women) who might be significantly overgrown with unwanted hair. The Phillips/Norelco X5004 fulfills its destiny to denude the face and body with its excellent cutting mechanism, water resistance and elegant, but slightly fragile-looking exterior. What you get in the box is the shaver with the standard head attached, the sideburn attachment, the protective plastic covering for the standard head, a cable with a USB A to a two-pin connector and annoyingly absent, is an actual wall charger to plug in the shaver as well as any form of case or bag. So, if you don’t happen to have an extra 5 volt charger available, I guess you were not meant to shave. Perhaps this new Apple-inspired norm of not including chargers with new products is ecologically friendly, but it can be downright annoying if you are not expecting it. At least Apple warns its customers with its logo by showing a small missing section of its fruit, depicting what I now assume is representing the missing charger from some of their products. The good:This product works well and without comparisons to previous generations of products or other models in the Norelco/Phillips lineup, I would recommend it. (Read on.) The shape of this new head conforms well to the face, works efficiently and offers a close, clean shave no doubt due to the newly designed and implemented multidirectional cutting system. The sideburn trimmer also functions well and did not catch or pull any hairs. The overall shape fits the hand well and seems ergonomically supportive. The waterproof capabilities only add the icing on the cake for versatility and convenience. The not as good:Upon opening the box, I found it strange that the packaging did not provide space for the standard head’s protective cover to be snapped into place. Fortunately, the packaging is sized sufficiently to allow transport safely, even with some minor shipping damage as my unit experienced. The elegant, yet wholly fragile-looking attachment methodology worries me for future travel rigor as well as endless exchanges with the sideburn trimmer. Perhaps my use of the two attachments is not the norm, but with a previous Norelco shaver that I have lived with for many years, I constantly switch back and forth with the pop-up attachment that deals with the errant hair that has outgrown its neighborhood. I can’t imagine this new product surviving as long as my robustly-built older one that allowed for the trimmer to be popped up and down with the flick of a finger as opposed to a delicate decapitation.Another anomaly that could prove annoying over extended use, are the times when the battery’s charge has depleted and your shaving needs haven’t. Like right before you need to leave for work and you have a half-shaved face. This unit does not allow you to continue your shave while the device is plugged in to charge, unlike my previous Norelco/Phillips shaver which would happily continue to get your hair evened out while charging. Also, be aware that although the connectors that come on older Norelco shavers and this new one appear very similar, they are not either mechanically or electrically compatible. The Norelco 5000 unit uses 5 VDC and the older Norelco product uses 16VDC.Conclusion:I would not consider this new unit to be as durable or travel capable as my old one. The inconvenience of constantly removing and replacing the two included heads can only lead to heartbreak, as either the fragile looking attachment mechanism will eventually give out, or the frustration of continually changing the heads will lead to the shaver’s ability to fly. I would not personally recommend this model/configuration based on my past experience with other Phillips/Norelco products. But, for those having no previous experience with earlier models, or built-in or pop-up attachments, they will probably be impressed with the shave achieved with this model. Fortunately, there are other models in the Phillips/Norelco lineup that solve the pop-up trimmer issue as well as offering a travel case and I would seriously consider those models before this one. One model is the Shaver 5400 also known as the S5880/81 that also seems to be priced similarly to the X5004/84 model reviewed here.

Been using pretty much daily for a few weeks now. It’s a nice compact shaver feels good in the hand and the shaving head is good with the contours of your face. The battery life has been great so far probably a good hours worth of use between charges. I do find it struggles with the whiskers under my chin as they grow in different directions but most electric razors I’ve used do. In terms of smooth shave I’d give around 4 out of 5 I found it needs a few passes in certain areas to get all the hairs. A few negatives - no cleaning brush provided, there’s no sideboard trimmer but that’s obvious at time of purchase, could have done with a pouch or something to store it in and while the charging cable is usb (no plug provided) the other end is figure 8 I feel Phillips ... MoreBeen using pretty much daily for a few weeks now. I have been using this every few days for the last 2-3 weeks and am really happy. It looks and feels great in the hand and is noticeably more gentle than my previous electric razor, a big plus for me as I have sensitive skin. I also like the flexibility to use it with shaving foam, which makes the head glide even more smoothly.I am a big fan of the USB charging cable rather than the traditional charging cable/socket, it is one less thing for me to worry about when I travelThe battery is great, I can get at least 10 shaves in before having to recharge and having the travel lock will definitely dome in handy to avoid the shaver starting in my bag when travelling.Overall I would recommend, the only negative is the price, which I can imagine will put many off.I ... MoreI have been using this every few days for the last 2-3 weeks and am really happy. It looks and feels great in the hand and is noticeably more gentle than my previous electric razor, a big plus for me as I have sensitive skin. It's been over 10 years since I've used an electric shaver (both Norelco and Braun), because they've just never given me a nice close shave compared to a razor. I decided to give it another try with this Philips Norelco 5000X, hoping that the technology has improved, but unfortunately, it really hasn't.First, the positives. The build quality is excellent, with a solid well-balanced feel in hand, and nice texture to improve grip. The shaving head flexes nicely, and is easy to remove with a gentle twist (it pops back on with a simple push). The package also comes with a trimmer attachment. The shaver is waterproof, although I didn't test that. The shaver is waterproof, although I didn't test that. The rechargeable non-removable lithium battery has a reported 50 minute run time (and, of note, the shaver will NOT operate when plugged in -- it has to use the battery to run). Now, the negatives. As already mentioned above, this shaver just doesn't shave very closely. I tried running it several times over my stubble, and I could still feel it pretty rough afterwards. Perhaps this is just unavoidable with any electric shaver, but it really shouldn't be advertised as a "close shave" when a quick pass of a Harry's razor can do a much better job. The fact that you can't operate the shaver while plugged in will also become an issue when the battery inevitably deteriorates and no longer can hold a charge -- it'll essentially become useless, and just another piece of e-waste. Finally, the connector with the USB-A charging cable is proprietary -- come on, really Philips? You couldn't just put a USB-C port or even a micro-USB port in the shaver, so that we could use any of the many many cords we already have?
Nicely packaged & easy to use once you've removed it from the box. Fits well in the hand and no complaints after the first couple of dry shaves. I was only working on minor stubble however so can't be sure how it would cope with a bigger challenge. Left me smooth and without the need to use different products to remove missed strays under the nostrils etc.. You can also use it in the shower, not that I've tried that yet. Also states the charge lasts for 50mins Can't confirm that either but no noticeable difference regarding power on shaves one & two. Always been a wet shaver and regardless of what electric shavers I seem to have acquired along the way, ultimately find I return to it before too long. The shaver is simple to take apart to clean and dry after every use. I will be using it more often in the future as it makes quick work of my stubble The shaver has a charging cord provided, this needs to be plugged into a USB port to charge which means it does not charge from my standard wall out in my bathroomTo be fair I can live that. All in all a fantastic bit of kit
My shaving routine involves a wet shave in the shower with an electric shaver and then a shave with a normal manual shaver afterwards to finish the task. I find that no electric shaver can ever fully remove 100% of my facial hair and so I always need to shave a small amount afterwards. This shaver probably offers the closest to clean-shaven that I've had from several units but it's still not 100%. The shaver is relatively compact compared to others I've used. Also having a charger that has a USB plug (albeit then in to a proprietary connector) is very useful when travelling to save having to take a bulkier charger. The head easily flips up to allow cleaning which is very useful. A key thing to note too; you must charge this before first usage as it won't turn on ... MoreMy shaving routine involves a wet shave in the shower with an electric shaver and then a shave with a normal manual shaver afterwards to finish the task. I've never had a particularly good experience with electric razors, since I'm pretty clumsy and have a tendency to get pretty bad razor burn. I don't seem to have that issue with this one - the head just glides over my skin pretty easily, and it even glides over the sharp angles where I usually find myself getting nicked. All in all, it's pretty pleasant to use. I have yet to hurt or even pinch myself with this shaver, which for me is a great achievement. There are a couple of downsides: for instance, the charger connector appears to be some sort of weird proprietary thing. Considering that the provided charger is just a cable that ends in a USB connector on the other side, I'm not a fan - if you lose it, I'm assuming you'd have to buy another straight from the ... MoreI've never had a particularly good experience with electric razors, since I'm pretty clumsy and have a tendency to get pretty bad razor burn. Considering that the provided charger is just a cable that ends in a USB connector on the other side, I'm not a fan - if you lose it, I'm assuming you'd have to buy another straight from the manufacturer, and it is really easy to lose a cable. Also, it's a bit irritating to clean out the head assembly when it gets clogged if you've gone a bit without shaving - the instructions say to just run it under water, but I found myself having to use a brush to get everything out. Finally, it does have some issues with getting all the hairs first time around - there are always some particularly stubborn ones that seem to need a lot more passes than the others. On the bright side, it's really easy to disassemble the head to be able to clean it, and it doesn't seem to be too annoying to deal with if you keep up with shaving. I also like how there's an included cap for the head, so that it's not just sitting there totally exposed. The battery life is another plus - there's nothing more irritating than trying to shave before you head out the door and your razor is dead. This thing appears to hold enough of a charge that that's not really an issue. I'm also a fan of how simple it is - the only button is the power button, and there aren't any weird features to keep track of and it doesn't want to pair with my phone. All in all, it's pretty decent. And honestly, I suppose that the issue with cleaning out the head I mentioned is probably unavoidable. So really, the only thing I can knock this shaver for is the weird charger. I'd definitely recommend this - it's become my favorite shaving method pretty quickly.
