I thought that I had got a bargain with this Razor. To be honest, it was a reduced item in Boots Sale. I have had Philips triple-blade razors before, but the cost of replacing them, sadly as expensive as a new one! (Why do we have to be a throw away society?)At first I thought it was brilliant, but as time went by, the charge doesn't last as long as the older models. The cutting heads are rather clunky and do not shave as smoothly regarding the 'floating heads'. You find the corners hitting your face often!Like a lot of technology, it seems to be one step forward, two steps back. My advice is, pay the exra for replacement blades in your existing 'quality' older razor!

I had a Philips triple head shaver when I was in my 20s. Lasted very very long time. At least 10years, purchased new cutters twice at least. Got another Philips in my 40’s & then my oldest son shaved his head with my razor. I needed new cutting heads again & never got them, the razor is in a drawer. I went through a few different cheep electric razors. Then I stopped using electric & wet shaved for 5 or 10 years. I recently purchased the new 5000 series & so glad I did. It is an amazing razor. Wish I had not waited so long. It was like missing an old friend & the getting reacquainted with the friend.Should have done it sooner. I don’t think I will ever not use this razor. I have not checked for some time but I know the new cutters are not cheep so depending on sales when they are dull maybe I will just purchase another Philips razor. Always a triple head shaver. I really & honestly can not say enough about this shaver. Amazing & awesome are just a few words to describe this razor.

This shaver is so light and quiet I was actually disappointed when I first turned it on as all my previous shavers were loud and sounded fast. I have also only ever used foil shavers and wasn't sure how I'd get on with this, but I had always struggled with foils as they took ages, they got hot and were sore using. So when I first shaved (dry) with this it was like a dream! I had five days growth, which my foil shaver would not be able to cut. But the Philips S5887 shaver dealt with it like ease. And it was so comfortable! Honestly the best shave I have ever had! It even gave a close shave right under my nose, which I struggle with using a blade unless I cut from different angles. And the pop up cutter was so easy to use too.Cleaning it was a breeze. And running it under the water as the shaving foam built up meant the shave was easy and again, by the end, the shaver was totally clean. The charging time is brilliant too. Took me less than an hour and so far I haven't had to recharge. I totally recommend this to anyone, especially if foils aren't working for you!!

I've not had an electric shaver for about 20 years or more due to not being satisfied with the closeness of the shave. So I've been thinking about it for a number of months but been put off by the cost of shavers these days and not sure about the improvements made over the years. So I decided to look for one and ended up deciding on this model after reading some reviews.I remember my old shavers being very noisy in operation and irritating my skin due to having to go over the same area to try getting a closer shave. So my new shaver arrived and I charged it up as recommended. When I first went to use it I was surprised as to how quiet it was and it didn't give me much confidence in getting a good shave. How surprised and wrong I was, I had 5 days growth and i ... Have used Philips shavers for a long time and the series 5000 has been my choice for the last 3 shavers I've owned and used. I even got my late Father-in-law one as he was getting fed up wet shaving and had started cutting himself. They are very efficient shavers and I know now that you won't get the close shave you can achieve with a wet blade it always leaves me feeling clean and bristle free without scraping my face to bits.My current version of the series 5000 is smooth plastic whereas I preferred the previous silicone/rubberised grip as, getting older my grip and feeling in my fingers is reduced so if I was asked I'd ask them to use the new style body but with the non slip grip. Overall an excellent shaver and it's now supplied with 13amp plug charger as ... As an 80 year old with arthritic fingers, who's previous two razors were Philips 3000 series models, I found this shaver more difficult to hold than the 3000, although with perseverance it does give a better shave. The 3000 had a rubber grip and a shape which was more comfortable to hold. I also find that the on/off button on the 5000 is in such a place that I accidently switch it off with my thumb whilst trying to grip the shaver when shaving. My only other criticism is the separate (and losable) clipper, I much preferred the pop-up clipper on the 3000 which could be initiated at any time without having to change the head. Instead I use a superb Philips NT9145/11 Styler which I have had since 2015, for clipping. This shaver does give a great shave, and after two ... One big plus for this shaver is the ease of washing the heads with its open design, making it simple to wash through after each shave.
I have shaved exclusively with Philips shavers for 54 years. This year I needed a new shaver. I bought a series 7000. I returned it after a week. I found the unnecessarily bulky shaving head awkward for areas under my nose and under my lips and over my chin. I then bought a series 3000 and returned that too. I found that shaver wholly inadequate for shaving my thick beard. I have now been using the series 5000 for some time. I think that I am now stuck with this shaver as there are no other choices. I have tried Braun and Remington in the past and found them inadequate. The series 5000 too has unnecessarily bulky shaving heads. I have tried Braun and Remington in the past and found them inadequate. The series 5000 too has unnecessarily bulky shaving heads. Individual rotating blades seem to have too large a gap between them necessitating going over the same area over and over, irritating my skin, especially around my lips. Still, series 5000 shaving head is a little better than the 7000. It seems to me that Philips engineers, in their desire to come up with something different have taken a step backward and have designed a monstrosity. In my estimation, there was nothing wrong with the design of the series 3000/5000 shavers from, say, 10 or 15 years ago. Three other design flaws, in my opinion, are firstly the placement of the on/off button causing one's thumb to constantly switch off the shaver mid-shave. The other flaw is that the shaver stops without warning when the battery runs out of charge. This flaw is an unacceptable cost-cutting measure for something that costs CAN$99 plus tax. And lastly, the elimination of the integrated sideburn cutter and replacing it with a separate unit doesn't make sense.
I have had a Norelco shaver basically my whole life. Last year I wanted a new razor and bought a knockoff triple header. It was the worst decision I've ever made. It crapped out in less than a year and never shaved as good as any of the norelco's I ever had. I don't think any of the norelco's have ever broken down on me, but after 10+ years I would just want a newer model. The quality of the 5000 I just purchased is as I expected, EXCELLENT. If anyone out there is thinking of buying a no name brand because you think like I did that a razor is a razor, don't. I made that mistake and learned my lesson. Norelco, please forgive me for briefly jumping ship, it will not happen again.Bob K
After purchasing this Philips Norelco 5400 (s5880/81)series shaver (which I love), I found out that it is compatible with the cleaning pod (sold separately). I picked up the cleaning pod as soon as I found this out. I appreciate the ease of daily cleaning that the pod offers. In addition I picked up the travel case. I also love the fact that it is a wet/dry shaver. I use Edge shaving gel, which allows the shavers heads to glide over my skin, and gives me a good reasonably close shave. The battery lasts a long time, and I have only had to charge it twice since I purchased it 2 months ago. I am a fan and will definitely continue to use, and would definitely buy again :)
Razor works very well. Excellent, close shave. Charge was easy, lasts several days. Have had an older Model 5000 series which I liked. It did well, though I didn't like the separate trimmer. This Model has a trimmer built into it. Smaller trimmer than prior model but it nice to not deal with a removable trimmer. The only inconvenience is the use of a USB only charging. I have a home USB charging station which helps. If traveling, it is not the best solution. Would have been nice to have a charging plug to use in the bathroom, with the original purchase. Just found out about a plug available directly from Philips, as a free warranty item. Ordered this weekend. Very pleased with this shaver. 3rd one I've bought in the past 8 - 10 years.
