A Truly Great Shaver

I highly recommend the newest line of Prestige shavers. The latest model (SP9841/84) comes with the pentagonal heads and the SH91 blades which deliver a smooth, close shave in five minutes. It also has the cleaning pod enabling the shaver to clean his shaver's head in one minute's time and then leave it to drip in the pod which provides a handy storage spot on the counter. Whereas the 9500 series also has the same head and cleaning option, its handle is not as ergonomic as the Prestige's making the 9500 far more difficult to handle. The older Prestige shavers (SP9820 and SP9860) have the rounded shaving heads but these do not allow the shaver to be cleaned in a pod and the head needs to be entirely removed to be thoroughly cleaned. On the newest Prestige the head flips open which is a much more useful way to clean the shaver under the tap on days you don't want to clean it in the pod. As an aside: I also have the older 9721 Norelco which came with the cleaning station that has heating coils to help dry the shaver. I discovered that the newer SH98 blades worked perfectly on that shaver so on a whim I removed the entire head from the 9721 and tried it on my new Prestige and it worked beautifully. So, on those days that I decide to shave with the rounded heads of the older Prestige, I can mount that head onto the handle of my new SP9841. When the shave is done I can remount the head onto my older 9721 and clean it in the older cleaning station. Options... I have plenty of great options and a superb shaver in my new Prestige. For those who do not have the older shaver, don't despair. The newest Prestige will provide you with all the shaver you really need so enjoy it. Just remember to turn it 90 degrees to get a closer shave under the nose and ears due to the pentagonally shaped heads. For the neck, cheeks and chin this rotation is not needed. A great shaver, guys.

Finally when a Norelco trimmer I’d been happily using for years died, I talked myself into the Prestige-which has a similar trimmer. And the Prestige was on sale. Glad I finally moved on it. It truly does give a close shave that rivals a blade and it does so quickly. I’m stuck with the first Norelco, which I kept past the return window. I’ll probably donate it. Very pleased with the Prestige. It’s a high class experience in every way. Pricey but worth it for me.

The friendly & professional lady I spoke to was the deal maker & I took the plunge. After some weeks with the S9000, I'm impressed so far. The first thing I noticed is that it's soooo quiet! Makes a foil shaver sound like a motorbike in comparison. It took a few days to acclimatise to using a circular motion to shave but I'm into it now & I'm getting fairly close shaves too - in or out of the shower. What is impressive is the S9000's ability to deal with a few days growth. In fact, it seems to give a better shave than on one day's stubble.Unlike some, I do like the wireless charging too. I can also use that for my phone & heated mug. I also suspect that it's possible to "convert" the shaver to take a cable anyway.Did I bother with a cleaning station? No, why would you when you simply run it under the tap & spray with a good cleaner after each use.Design wise, the S9000 is gorgeous as is the build quality - as you would expect from a company like Philips. Lots of shiny metal & minimal plastic.Although the shaving heads will have a much longer life than foil models, it remains to be seen how long they really will last & what the replacement cost will be.The included accessories are nice too. I've never had something to trim nose/ear hairs & sideburns before. The other trimmer is for beards or even simple hair cutting. These accessories are not part of the razor itself & easily pop on/off. That's great as so many models are cluttered with pop outs.A minor niggle is the instructions which appear as a number of graphics & very little print. They are more like a puzzle than instructions & I struggled to see them even with my reading glasses! How about some useful videos Philips? So, thus far, all is well with my shaving world. Will it be a year from now or longer? I don't know but the S9000 is in the last chance saloon as far as buying high end razors is concerned.I hope my early pleasures last for many years to come.

This is a pretty good shaver.I normally don't leave reviews, but I have had a hard time finding a good, long-lasting shaver at a reasonable price and this is the closest I have found, although I still think it's overpriced.I've used this shaver for several months now and have had a mostly positive overall experience. However, I still do occasionally get razor burn irritation around the corner of my mouth and upper and lower lip and that is annoying.I REALLY dislike the very slow wireless charging, and the super large wireless charging pad with a nondetachable cord that doesn't fit into the travel case. It's gimmicky and unnecessary, and bulky and inconvenient for no reason and provides no real benefit. The price could easily have been significantly less with a corded charger with faster charging like another prior premium Philips shaver I had (for which Philips stopped selling the shaver heads and that was really frustrating, but that's a separate issue), and this would be a solid 5-star product. Because of this issue, I almost considered a 3-star rating (since charging is central to the shaver's use) - but it does it's main job of shaving consistently well.I haven't used the attachment so I have no comment there, and I manually wash the shaver since I don't want to have to keep buying the cleaning solution so no comment there either.

Simply the Best

This Norelco delivers the smoothest and closest shave of any Norelco I've ever used (and I've been using them for over 40 years). I'd like to address a few objections some men have mentioned that I find picky. First off, it has no cleaning station or cleaning pod. My answer: they're unnecessary, they take up counter space and they add unnecessary expense. I rinse it under the tap and once every few weeks I spray the cutting head with Shaver Saver. The Qi charging pad make the bag too large for travel. Given that we only travel once every year and generally not longer than two weeks, there is no need to travel with the larger case and charging pad. The shaver holds a two week charge like a champ. Besides, I love the Qi charging pad since I drop my shaver onto it ... MoreThis Norelco delivers the smoothest and closest shave of any Norelco I've ever used (and I've been using them for over 40 years). Given that we only travel once every year and generally not longer than two weeks, there is no need to travel with the larger case and charging pad. The shaver holds a two week charge like a champ. Besides, I love the Qi charging pad since I drop my shaver onto it after each shave and it's fully charged for the following morning. Lastly, they complain that the head must be popped off for cleaning as well as for the trimmer attachment compromising the head that is held on by plastic tabs. I have an eight year old 9721 and its head still attaches firmly after all these years; it's space age plastic, not your grandfather's plastic. Some men are opting for the latest Prestige with the pentagonal head given that it can be used with a cleaning pod (unnecessary as mentioned) and has a flip-top assembly for easier cleaning. This newer version's advantage is immediately erased by the unwieldy pentagonally shaped head making shaving under the nose and ears awkward if not downright difficult. The only way to achieve a close shave with this head is to rotate the shaver 90 degrees requiring some dexterity given the additional need for moving the shaver in a circular motion. The older round shaving heads are far more superior and better at their job.All told, the 9860 Prestige is simply the best Norelco available and in my opinion the best electric shaver including foil shavers that is available today.

Replacing the shaving part with the hair clipper takes some getting used to, and the large case comes with few accessories for such a high price. The wireless charging feature is also the only charging option, which may not be convenient for everyone. Additionally, it can take a long time to get a good result, and hairs can grow back quickly. The charger is not convenient to take with you on holiday, and taking off the shaving head for cleaning feels like breaking it off. It can also be difficult to clean when wet shaving due to the messy design of the head. Lastly, despite the shaver being suitable for sensitive skin, it can still cause some irritation.Overall, the Philips Shaver S9000 Prestige SP9883/36 is a good purchase for those looking for a high-end shaver that performs well and is suitable for sensitive skin. The shaver has some minor drawbacks, but I believe the pros outweigh the cons.

Super smooth shave and long lasting battery life
2 July 2023

I've been using Philips electric shavers for over 50 years and this is the best yet. My previous model was a wet/dry shaver also. I always use with a shaving gel. This new model took a day or so to get used to but I'm finding it gives a significantly smoother shave, possibly due to the faster speed - I'm using it daily at the highest speed setting. Battery life is phenomenal; I've been using it for 6 weeks and I've only had to charge it once so far and the charging system is so easy and neat. OK, it's a bulkier bit of kit than my previous 7000 Series model and I wouldn't want to have to cart the charger around on holiday, but the battery life is such that one wouldn't have to and the carrying pouch isn't as bulky as some people have complained about. OK, it's a bulkier bit of kit than my previous 7000 Series model and I wouldn't want to have to cart the charger around on holiday, but the battery life is such that one wouldn't have to and the carrying pouch isn't as bulky as some people have complained about. I've only used the trimmer attachment once and it's a bit fierce compared with the one I had on the 7000 Series, causing me to nick my lip when trimming my moustache, but I guess I'll get used to that too. I run the shaver underwater in the washbasin for a few seconds after use and then under a running tap with the head flipped open to clean it - really easy. All in all, I'm impressed with it - everything works quietly and efficiently at it should, and the controls and visual indicators are simple and easy. If you're used to a rotary shaver, this is an excellent machine.

The king of gimmicks.

Simple physics here, a rotary razor simply has spinning blades that run at three different speeds with this razor. The three heads can move and pivot to follow skin contour, a minor benefit. Other than that, they are feeding you major baloney to justify a ridiculous $300 price tag. SkinIQ...somehow they want you to believe there are magical sensors monitoring your face and adjusting the razor! Adjusting it how????? It's only function is spinning the blades at a preselected speed. The lift and cut is an outright lie. I took apart the heads and examined the blades under high power magnification. There is no magical system here, just basic blades mounted to sweep by your face and trim hair with no special lift and pull technology. That would take sophisticated ... MoreSimple physics here, a rotary razor simply has spinning blades that run at three different speeds with this razor. That would take sophisticated mechanical engineering that would not fit in the tiny heads. Of course they make this to run on batteries only and not with the power cord. Your daddie's old corded razor lasted a lifetime, just plug it in and shave. But this gimmick uses batteries that will eventually go south on you then you'll have to buy another new razor. Norelco covered all the bases here for maximum profiteering.

[Rewarded Review] Great, light-weight electric shaver
14 February 2023

When I pulled this out of the box, the device was at 10% charge; plugging it in had it charged to 100% in probably an hour or less (I wasn't monitoring closely). I've tried this out for a few days now and it gives a very close shave and contours to parts of your face without having to go over it over and over again. I do have slightly sensitive skin so there was some irritation when I first tried it out but after changing the settings for sensitive skin and using it a few more times. The instruction manual actually recommends you give this at least three shaves within a week to give your body time to acclimate to a new shaving system. I always dry shave with electric shavers but this one is capable of doing wet shaving with shaving cream as well, which should help ... MoreWhen I pulled this out of the box, the device was at 10% charge; plugging it in had it charged to 100% in probably an hour or less (I wasn't monitoring closely). I always dry shave with electric shavers but this one is capable of doing wet shaving with shaving cream as well, which should help out with achieving a closer shave without irritation.I am slightly confused by the charging mechanism as the dock that this shaver comes with does not function as a charging dock - it's exclusively intended to house the cleaning solution for cleaning the razor mechanisms. The shaver needs to be connected directly to the charging cable to be charged. Speaking of the razors, the heads are all water resistant and can be rinsed under running water to wash out hair and debris. This also comes with a trimmer head that you can easily swap out with minimal effort.I was shocked to feel how light this shaver was to hold. I think it was designed strategically to be lightweight without reducing the feel of quality and good construction. My only issue really has to do with the dock (hence the 4/5 stars) as I would expect it to be a charging dock but it's not a deal breaker. It is a compact cleaning mechanism as other comparable systems have HUGE docks to be able to hold the cleaning solution. Speaking of compact, this also comes with a hardshell storage case that also has space for the charger, cleaning brush, and trimming attachment.

[Rewarded Review] The new generation of shavers
16 February 2023

I had the opportunity to try out the Philips Norelco Shaver 9000 Prestige and I have to say, it's truly a remarkable electric shaver. This rechargeable wet or dry shaver is perfect for anyone who wants a close, comfortable shave without compromising on skin comfort. The shaver's NanoTech precision blades are super strong and incredibly precise. They're even strengthened with nano particles, which means they can cut hair with incredible precision for the closest results. I was particularly impressed with the shaver's excellent skin comfort system, which made shaving a breeze even on a longer, seven-day beard. I also noticed that the new wider, rounder openings caught more hair per pass, which definitely made a difference. One of the coolest features of the Philips ... MoreI had the opportunity to try out the Philips Norelco Shaver 9000 Prestige and I have to say, it's truly a remarkable electric shaver. I also noticed that the new wider, rounder openings caught more hair per pass, which definitely made a difference. One of the coolest features of the Philips Norelco Shaver 9000 Prestige is the BeardAdapt Sensor. This sensor checks hair density 15 times per second and automatically adapts the shaver to your hair. Plus, with three customizable modes to choose from (Sensitive, Normal, and Fast), you can easily customize your shave for the best possible results. The shaver is also really versatile, offering both wet and dry options, and comes with a skin-friendly precision trimmer that's perfect for maintaining your mustache and sideburns. Plus, the included premium travel case is a great bonus - it's the perfect way to protect your shaver and all its accessories when you're on the go.The shaver's Lithium-ion battery is also incredibly powerful and long-lasting, which means you can get up to 60 minutes of shaving time on just one hour of charging. However, it's worth noting that the shaver only operates in cordless mode. And while the replacement heads do need to be replaced every 12 months, the SH98/82 or SH91/52 replacement heads are easy to find and sold separately.Overall, I would highly recommend the Philips Norelco Shaver 9000 Prestige to anyone in search of a high-quality, customizable shaving solution that delivers a close, comfortable shave.
