An updated must have for oral healthcare

Sure the battery may last 2 weeks on a full charge but anything longer and you are going to need to do a charge mid-trip. The new model fixed that issue with a slick USB charging ability. USB charging is kind of ubiquitous these days and I am glad that this new toothbrush has the ability. Slow as it may be, I rather have USB charging over not being able to charge abroad.Besides the USB charging feature, the new 4100 version has some neat features that my old toothbrush does not. Sure, the quad pacer and 2-minute timer were always there in the older models, but the new model features the ability to adjust the intensity of the brush head, an easy start for new users, a brush head replacement tracking feature with brush sync, and a pressure sensor that gives you immediate feedback that you may be using too much hand pressure. The Philips Sonicare 4100 toothbrush as an update to the old Sonicare line is much overdue. I like the fact that they have moved away from the e-series brush heads which were on the cheapest toothbrushes to the newer style brush heads. The brush head style change has fixed a few issues, one you do not have the bacteria repository that the e-series brush heads have which require frequent cleaning of the ‘well’ where the brush head sits. The new design allows you to move to different style brush heads, as it's no longer just the ‘standard head’. Should you need a quick change, there are more options for brush heads on this newer style than the older e-series.How is it to use you ask? Well, the first few times you turn it on, it would run a lower intensity brush head for you to get used to the sensation of using a sonic toothbrush, this feature was in my older models, but the ability to turn it off was not. I found the battery life isn't bad, though specs state the battery would last 28 brush sessions twice a day, which means a 14-day battery life. I for one think that is quite underestimated, as my older brushes would easily run 3+ weeks before running out of battery life. I haven't used this one long enough to see what the battery life would be like. The build quality of the toothbrush is excellent, and I would think it would last longer than the warranty provided. That said, my older brushes have run 5+ years each before needing replacements on the handle. So if you are looking for an electronic toothbrush for yourself or someone in your life, I would not hesitate to recommend Sonicare. As a long time user, I am glad to see a new model is out for the masses at a price that is affordable. Sonicare toothbrushes definitely have helped keep my oral health in check, and I can now have that warm winning smile without the tinge of hesitation.

Similar to other people, I bought this toothbrush to replace an old Sonicare E Series model. It’s still going strong after more than ten years, but it’s cumbersome and has a lot of crevices that collect gunk in comparison to these sleeker versions. I’m really disappointed in this toothbrush, though, which I bought because it was recommended by The Wirecutter. The low intensity setting is on par with a manual toothbrush, and the high intensity doesn’t make my teeth feel nearly as clean as my old brush did. I personally find the quadrant timer annoying as it doesn’t align with the way I brush my teeth, which is a pretty ingrained habit at this point. I’ll probably return this and keep using my E Series until it kicks the bucket (or they stop making the heads). I feel like most people own a ton of electronics and probably have a wall adapter floating around in their house. We did. I guess I’d be annoyed if I had to go out of my way to get one. But the USB cord is actually a lot daintier than a traditional cord, so it’s easier to keep out of the way.

Just want to sell more brush heads. I replace mine every Jan 1 and July 1 and my teeth are great.I recommend registering your toothbrush with Philips after you receive it, which gets you an extra 6 months of warranty on top of the normal 2 years. Most of my Sonicare toothbrushes lasted 3-5 years before they got too noisy, but my last 4100 lasted just a few days past the 2-year warranty (not good!).I've read many people complaining that the charger has a USB connection, not a plug. Philips says they did that to reduce plastic, but I'll bet they did that so they can manufacture just one type of charger that works worldwide. So hold onto your old charger!

Horrible quality compared to what they were just a few years ago.

About 6 years ago I brought my first electric toothbrush a Phillips sonicare. The toothbrush did a amazing job cleaning my teeth, they felt so smooth it was like going to the dentist. Unfortunately after about 4 or 5 years it broke. I didn’t want to shell out the money for a new electric toothbrush so I went back to the old fashioned manual one. Every time I brushed my teeth I felt disappointed, it took twice as long and still never felt as clean as my sonicare did. The standard charging base was replaced from originally being a wall outlet to being a usb. The cord felt extremely flimsy feeling, I’m talking worse than a dollar store usb charging cable. No big deal because the battery life lasts long I won’t need to charge it all that much. Then I noticed the clean just didn’t feel the same. There seemed to be both a high and low setting but no matter what I used the clean was just not the same as I was used to. I was disappointed but it was much cheaper than the last one and it still got the job done albeit not as good as the previous one did. Well today I went to charge my battery after having it for just two months and my cat had chewed through the usb cable. I know that’s on me but had it been the old standard wall plug cable that was twice as thick it would have never happened. I think I’ll have to find a new brand of electric toothbrush to try out. Sonicare used to be the top of the line device, the kind you buy and know you’ll get years of great use out of. Sadly they feel much more cheap and disposable now and just can’t compare to what they used to be like years ago.

Love my Sonicare
17 May 2023

I've tried them all. For years I used a Rotodent. I tried Oral-B. Both worked great, but I always found myself brushing with a manual toothbrush after using them. Kinda defeated the purpose when my toothbrush didn't leave my teeth feeling clean.Recently, I noticed a lot of yellowing, especially in those spaces between the teeth. I floss irregularly, but it wasn't a buildup of gunk. I drink coffee and wine, and both are notorious stainers. I did some research and watched hours of videos into which electric brushes are best. Oral-B and Sonicare were usually tied, with Oral-B in a slight lead. The general gist is that most of the studies saying Oral-B is better were funded by Oral-B. The same with Sonicare. In independent studies--of which there aren't many--Oral B was better at cleaning the tooth surface and Sonicare was better at cleaning at the gumline and between teeth.Since I had experience with Oral-B and didn't love it (the shape of the head makes it feel large and you need to keep your mouth open as you brush to avoid pressing too hard which can cause splatter on the mirror), and since the best advice I was able to find was "buy the one you'll use", I went with the Sonicare.I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a new toothbrush. Afterall, they're in the business of selling replacement heads! It's like Gillette giving out free razors so you'll buy the replacement cartridges. So I found a few recommendations of what features are necessary. The 4100 had them all:1. Zone timer: 30 seconds a zone (upper right, upper left, lower right, lower left) is a little more time than I'd typically spend, so the zone timer forces me to linger 5-10 seconds longer.2. Pressure sensor: I'm a hard brusher. I destroy my toothbrushes. At the end of 3 months they're frazzled and needing therapy. Having my brush warn when I'm pressing too hard is huge.3. Charge notice: An electric toothbrush with a dead battery isn't as good as a manual toothbrush, so getting notified that I have 1-2 more cleanings left reminds me to charge it up so it never dies on me.I used the Sonicare for about a week and noticed a significant difference in the staining. As mentioned, I floss irregularly, and I've noticed that when I do floss (2-3x/week) there's significantly less buildup now as compared to before. I've had the Sonicare for over a month and I use it exclusively. I haven't touched my manual brush. Yes, it takes about 30-40 seconds longer to brush than I would have spent (because of the zone timer--I am loyal to it!) but it's two whole minutes. That's not a lot of time. Probably took you longer to read this review.I'm really happy with it. As opposed to my experience with the Oral-B, the brush head is small, so I can brush closed-lipped, so there's no foam splatter on the mirror. I just brush like I used to, but in super-slow motion. I make sure I get all the tooth surface, and there's enough time to go over each multiple times to ensure I get the gumline all the way up to the chewing surface before the timer tells me to move to the next section. The vibration takes a little getting used to, but it's really not bad at all. It can sound loud in your head, but it's fairly quiet to other people.I think my only complaint is that after the 4th quadrant, the toothbrush shuts off. At this point, I've brushed each section well, but there's part of me that wants to do a final sweep. It's total overkill, but because the brush is off, I end there and don't. I'd just like if the brush ran 15 seconds more after the final notice before shutting off.

My first experience with an electric toothbrush
3 January 2023

I do not have any previous experiences with electric toothbrushes in order to compare this toothbrush with anything else other than manual brushing. This brush has 2 intensities, which is good. I have one implant and the high intensity gives me just a bit of an uncomfortable feeling when I am brushing around that tooth. So I switch to the lesser intensity. I think I am doing a good job brushing, but the inside of the bottom left-side teeth may not be getting as good a brushing as the other teeth. I just don't feel the brush head on these teeth like I do the others. But that's on me learning how to better adapt. I do brush twice a day now and the 30-second timer is good to have. Sometimes time goes by quicker than I expect, so this is another area for learning how to better adapt. My dentist recommended this brand and perhaps I will know more when my next 6-month visit happens in May 2023. I have nothing bad to say - it's just different than manual brushing. I don't know why people say they can feel the difference after brushing. I don't get any special feelings after brushing. I think that's subjective (and perhaps more a marketing gimmick).

Not very powerful
15 April 2023

I had to replace my Sonicare toothbrush that I had for three years after it broke and bought this model, which replaced my previous model. I thought that I would be getting the same quality that I had before with my previous model, but it has not been the case. The motor in this model is not as powerful as it was in the previous model I had before. I am also noticing that I have to charge this model a lot more frequently. This model also doesn't come with the plug outlet that goes into the socket, but if you reach out to them directly, they will provide you with one. This is so they can be more environmentally conscientious. I get that, so it wasn't a big deal for me, but something to be aware of in case this is a deal breaker for you. The only pro of this model from the other model is that it has two speed settings. The previous model only had one. However, even on the higher speed it still does not exude the same performance as the other model they had. My previous model made me feel like I came out of the dentist with each use while being gentle at the same time. Many times this model makes me feel like it's not cleaning like it should. I don't know why they changed the quality of the product with this model. Although I know this model is the more economic model of their brands, it's not worth the price you pay when you have to continue to buy the brush heads for a model that doesn't clean as it should. I do not recommend it.

Works perfect for my needs

Easy to use, and lighter and smaller than my other sonic care toothbrush. Luv the way the pressure alarm works. I tend to over pressure, and the way this one alerts me to that is perfect. The only issue my old one had was wearing the bushing out at the base of the brush head, from using too much pressure. Even that lasted for years, but replacing the whole brush rather than trying to repair it made sense. Happy I did. If I can get the parts I might repair the old one for my travel kit.I do prefer the old style charger, directly plugs into the wall, but understand why they went to the usb style instead. I use the old style in my bathroom still, but the new style would work just fine, just voicing my opinion. My dentist recommended the original sonic care to me ... MoreEasy to use, and lighter and smaller than my other sonic care toothbrush. He is responsible for getting my dental hygiene on track and preventing me from needing dentures. Pushing 60 and still have my teeth, my parents and grandparents had dentures by 40. My dentist and my sonic care brushes both made that possible. I luv going for cleanings and needing little or none of that dental pick tool. The hygienist always raves about my teeth these days. Thank you.
