Hope in a Jar is definitely a moisturizer I remember being iconic and popular, so I was excited to try this new reinvented version. It contains a lot of modern ingredients that I love in skincare like hyaluronic acid and squalane. I think it is also important to point out that this has AHA and glycolic acid, so I am careful to not use it at the same time I use a retinol product since they are not good to mix. Unfortunately, this limits the days and times I can use this moisturizer. It absorbed fairly quickly into my skin and was not sticky. The moisturizer was easy to spread and rub into the skin. I felt hydrated and have no complaints about how it felt on the skin. It is still as the name suggests, in a jar, so it is not the most stable or sanitary packaging. The jar is a thick heavy glass and the bottom ⅓ of the jar doesn’t have any product. This new version of the Hope in a Jar is supposed to be a clean formula but it contains a lot of unnecessary fragrance. There is more fragrance in this than hyaluronic acid (fragrance is higher on the ingredient list). The fragrance is a nice scent but it lasts all day and I could still smell it after having it on my face and neck for 12 hours. Some fragrance to neutralize the scent of the other ingredients is understandable but this smells too perfumed and seems to try to appeal to those who still believe scented means fancy/expensive/elevated. I like that Philosophy has modernized its iconic moisturizer and the new formulation but unfortunately the amount of fragrance makes it still too old fashioned for me.

So I’ll start with the fact that I HATE going to a product’s reviews to see a bunch of 5 stars from people who received it for free, so for me to rate this 5 stars after getting it for free is saying something. I’ve never tried this brand before, but now I want to try out the whole line. I’ve been using this religiously every morning and evening for a little over a week and I’m already seeing improvements in my skin! I just recently became a skincare junky and love trying out new things, plus use a lot of drying/irritating products (I use retinol, vitamin C, lactic acid, AHAs and PHAs daily). This restores balance and is very soothing when applying. It looks/feels thick at first but settles really well into my skin, making it super soft all day. My face sweats a lot so most moisturizers make me feel sticky and heavy, but this is the complete opposite. My face feels and looks more plump too (not fat plump lol like filled in fine lines and wrinkles plump). I have noticed my face is more glowy as well, which is one of my main skincare goals so that makes it worth it on its own, but it has so many other great features. The packaging is so beautiful and sleek, it’s one I love displaying in my bathroom. Overall would definitely recommend this product and can’t wait to try out different products from this line!

I received this product complimentary from Influenster and Philosophy in exchange for my honest opinion. This is such a wonderful product for me to try since I have yet to dabble with AHA products and so it is a great starter. The packaging is a heavy matte finish jar that feels luxurious and pretty to put on my table. The cream is pretty thick in texture and feels moisturizing. I've used this for about two weeks now and I can see slight differences it made my skin. As a dry and sensitive skin person, I am careful with choosing my skincare to put on my skin, or else my skin will look terrible. The cream has a light fragrance that dissipates quickly but I can hardly smell it unless I poke my head into the jar. This moisturize did not break me out nor irritate my skin, which is a great sign. Throughout the two weeks, I can see that my hyperpigmentation lightened slightly and my skin appears to be brighter. I would love to give this a 5/5 star but since this is in a jar, it isn't really sanitary because you need to scoop out the product to use it. Philosophy should include a small spoon or a built-in applicator to go with it so it is more sanitary for their customers to use. If this is in a glass pump bottle, it'll be an A+ product. Just a reminder for everyone, since this contains glycolic acid, you have to use sunscreen unless you want to damage your skin. Overall, I will give this 4/5 stars. Highly recommend it to those who are new and interested in trying glycolic and hyaluronic acid products.

No Hope For This

Please please please bring back the original Hope In a Jar!!!!! I’ve used it for at least 20 years and never was dissatisfied with the results. I loved the clean not overpowering fragrance. I loved the light fluffy texture. I loved how it sunk right in to my skin without leaving a greasy film that laid on the top. This new Hope moisturizer feels and smells just like one of the other Philosophy moisturizers I tried but immediately returned. I fix something that isn’t broken. Give people an option to switch to so called clean beauty. I can’t see or feel any harmful results from using the original for over 20 years. Only good results. Please consider bringing back the original.

Philosophy still isn't listening to its customers

This is my second attempt at writing a review for this product; the first was not published--apparently, one-star reviews are not allowed. Anyway, this is nothing like the original HIAJ. I have sensitive, mature, rosacea-prone skin, and this lit me up like a tomato. I'm guessing it's the glycolic acid, which is too harsh for sensitive faces. Also, it smells like a perfume factory. The smell was so strong that it gave me a terrible migraine. After about an hour, I couldn't take it anymore and had to wash it off. My cheeks were red and sensitive for a couple of days afterwards. After the original HIAJ was discontinued, many customers--including me--have been begging Philosophy for a fragrance-free moisturizer (and other fragrance-free products, since fragrance can be irritating and doesn't belong on the face), but they're still not listening to us. Please bring back the original HIAJ with the original formula. I can't understand why Philosophy would discontinue the product that launched the company. If the reason has to do with the parabens, new research has proven that parabens are indeed safe--they've been used for almost 100 years--and the original studies that claimed otherwise were flawed. Science has since disproven the estrogen claim (they used rats--not humans--into which they fed and injected parabens in doses 4000 times higher than what's used in cosmetics) and the breast cancer claim (only 20 samples were tested, patient's histories weren't recorded, there was no control group, and even the authors of the study stated in their conclusion that the presence of parabens didn't prove they caused cancer). This info. is on the Internet--look it up. Parabens are safer and gentler than most of the preservatives that are now being used in their place.

I've been a long time fan of the hope in a jar moisturizer, almost since it's beginning, and I have to say the new 'multi-tasking' version has been by far, for me, the worst experience. I have to admit that when I purchased this from QVC, I didn't pay attention enough attention to recognize that this was not the the 'renewed' I always buy, but decided to try it anyway since I had already run out. Within a few days, my skin appeared dull and colorless even while wearing makeup. The product went on the same, but seemed to disappear almost immediately leaving a dry, flaky feel to my skin. My pores look larger and there is sort of an artificial like shine that only highlights them. How I wish for the original formula! I think the intentions were good, but the problem with multi-tasking and the added acids is that if you're already using other products for those other 'tasks' (which I do) then there may be over exposure. All I wanted was a moisturizer. I am still able to find the original at a few places and hopefully that will buy time to find another line altogether. In the meantime, I will try to reach out to QVC to see if they will issue a refund if I have already used it for almost a week. Please bring back the original formula..

First of all, I got this product complimentary from Influenster and I am so excited about it because I have now purchased it twice since then, and it is honestly the very first cream I have received for free and ended up buying myself after trying it out. No wonder this is sold out, I'm so pleasantly surprised by this product, mostly because I'm super picky when it comes to face creams, but especially when they promise to be the solution to several skin concerns like this one who says it can improve both fine lines and skin texture while also turning dull, dry skin into glowing and well hydrated for 24hours plus. My expectations where high, and my skepticism even higher. But here's my honest opinion, I'm quite literally blown away! This cream is so gentle yet so effective that I'm kind of upset because this means I now have another ?must have? expense in my budget. It is a bit pricey, but for a whole month of testing this I found myself cutting out several other products because this truly is I multi talented cream. I now use a cleanse, toner, and this cream! That's it! And my skin is loving it! It has a soft, fresh sent and almost like a gel cream, it absorbs fast into the skin and doesn't leave it feeling sticky. My skin tends to get super dry during the winter but after using this, hand on my heart, my skin has never looked better! I can't speak for the fine lines, but the texture of my skin has definitely improved and my skin now looks both hydrated and smoother! If you are looking for one multi targeting cream, this is it!

This “Smooth-Glow Hope in a Jar (and the one before this—the “Renewed Hope in a Jar”) both suck compared to the true, original Hope in a Jar. They don’t hold a candle to it. Ever since the company Cody bought out Philosophy, the products have gone downhill, fast. The version of Hope in a Jar when Christina Carlino created, owned and ran the company was the Holy Grail. It was a perfect, whipped yet rich moisturizer with the best most clean scent, and most importantly, it delivered a glow to your skin (the product itself even had a slight shimmer/glow to it). It was seriously reminiscent of a glorious “post-O” radiant glow on your skin. I never even needed makeup when I wa saying the OG Hope in a Jar. Yeah, it separated occasionally, but all you had to do was give it a good shake and it was good to go for months (and the only reason mine last more than a month was because I lived it so much I would buy the 4- or even 8-ounce sizes of it). I had acne prone skin at the time and that version actually cleared by skin up (combined with Purity cleanser and weekly Microdelivery Peel (2 step). Then as my skin aged into my mid to late 30s, it still perfectly addressed my slightly aging, more combo/dry skin. It was a miracle product. All of the “Hope” products since Cody bought the company suck in comparison. This particular version of HIAJ left my skin feeling sticky and with a film on top of it that never so soaked in. The OG Hope—my skin just drank it in. This one leaves my skin looking dull, pores actually look larger, makeup just lays on top of it looking bad, and the worst part is it makes me break out. I know it was this product too because I stopped using it for weeks, my skin cleared, tried it again, and within 2 days it was pimple city—location: my whole face. I’ve talked to sooo many people—women and men—who feel and think the same way about the fact that Cody changing the original formula—it’s a tragedy. They’re just too bummed to be bothered to write a review because they don’t think Cody will ever bring the Philosophy original formula for Hope in a Jar back. Sadly, they are probably right. I continue to mourn its passing. I certainly won’t be buying this version again and I think I’ve given up on trying any future “versions” of HIAJ unless I start to hear that the OG original is back—the one with a glorious glow :). I think a lot of people who think this product is good never actually experienced the original, so they don’t even know what they’re missing. Philosophy, I’d love to give you my money, but not for this disappointing product. I will keep buying Purity cleanser though; I’m grateful that’s still very good.
