I spent a long time researching the ideal setup for my mobile DJ setup before landing on the DDJ-1000. I eventually want to use CDJ's and a DJM-900NXS2 and this is The perfect stepping stone. The jog wheels match the CDJ-2000's and the layout of decks and mixer are close enough to the club gear to feel comfortable with the added benefit of the 16 performance pads which can be page to give 32 total. The onboard effects are great as well as the 4 built in sound colors. Love this controller and folks always comment on it at events. It helps perpetuate the tech mystic of the DJ as well as being a great controller for your skills.

Pioneer knocked it out of the park with the DDJ-1000. This is the perfect controller IF you love the feel and ergonomics of CDJs and DJM mixers. The jog wheels are mechanical and do feel quite different from those on a DDJ-SZ. Not better, or worse, just different. The display on the jog wheels is able to be slightly modified through the settings. You can choose to turn ON/OFF the album art and the "scope" graphics this allows you to view the waveform larger. For me, seeing the waveform more clearly is better than the album art! The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because installation was a pain. Your experience may be different but it took several attempts to get Rekordbox to see the controller. This problem has rampantly been reported online. Don't let ... Wow. I didn't know how nice they looked after watching videos, until I saw in person with the DDJ-800. Fell in love right away. I was like "ok, I get it."People suggested I return it and get the 1000, because the mechanical jogwheels truly are the best bang for the buck. I mean, the Nexus stuff can add up to over five grand. The DDJ-1000 is basically the same thing, for a LOT less.Pros:- 4 mixer channels, easily accessible- unlocks Rekordbox and DVS fully (it didn't at first, but the 5.4 update which came a little later allows for it)- the mechanical jogwheels and the tight/loose adjustment, which feels great, any way you set it- the ability to use the mixer standalone, without Rekordbox.. perfect for mixing vinyl, oldschool, if you have a good record collection... or, using traditional CDJs- all the fully-assignable things you can do with Rekordbox's midi-mapping... you can even assign a less-used knob to "Crossfader Curve", which is really helpful when you want to go between mixing and scratching, without having to go into Preferences.- the Magvel Fader. It might not be an Innofader, but it's pretty greatCons:- there is weird "wobbling" when scratching, especially at medium/slow tempos, like doing slow drags over chill hip-hop. This is TOTALY obvious... and it really sounds bad. I'm not the only person experiencing it, as others have noticed this, too (online forums, etc).It does NOT happen with DVS, at all. DVS is flawless. And oddly, the same wobbling/wavery/almost "phlegm-like" sound also happens with the DDJ-800. It does not happen with the DDJ-SX I'm borrowing. Has to be some weird thing with the jogwheels on both the 800 and 1000. Could I live with it? Sure. Because mixing songs is the 1000's strength. But slow scratching... it's a big weakness and I REALLY hope Pioneer addresses this. I posted about it in several places on the official Pio forums. They have to know about it.Besides that, it's dope. I asked AMS if I could put in for a return as I feel it's absolute overkill for me as a hobbyist DJ/scratcher... but... I'm thinking I'm going to hang onto it. It literally is the cream of the crop. What you get for the price is INSANE.

Just upgraded from the 800 and blown away. Pioneer ACTUALLY kept the same intuitive layout and it scales to 4 tracks pretty well.I'm mainly using the extra channels for other inputs, which works perfectly.Pads are amazing, BEAT FX are AWESOME along with the pad FX.Jogs are a bit more responsive in my opinion and MUCH larger. Touch platter isn't as sensitive, which I had gotten used to on the 800.Really cool that you can have TWO computers plugged in and even different Operating Systems so your homie can plug in and have their WHOLE LIBRARY.THE CASE: It's heavy, supposed to be though and does a damn good job of keeping everything in its place. The laptop tray is awesome, stable and cable passthroughs are great!
This is an absolutely fantastic controller - it's effectively a DJM750mk2 mixer (which costs the same price as this controller on its own!) attached to a pair of full sized CDJ2000-style platters with all the usual controller goodies such as a set of assignable pads - these can be used for hot cues so there are no missing features that I can see from the standalone players. The mixer and FX can be used completely standalone and has 4 channels which are completely assignable to external inputs with no laptop connected if you so wish. It's even compatible with DVS if you connect turntables but will require an additional purchase of Rekordbox control vinyl and a license (£99 at time of writing). It's even compatible with DVS if you connect turntables but will require an additional purchase of Rekordbox control vinyl and a license (£99 at time of writing). One of the new features on this controller is the displays in the middle of the platter, replacing the traditional CDJ platter ring indicator, this shows the waveform, cue points, BPM and other information. This means the only time the DJ needs to look at the laptop screen is for selecting a track (which can be done via the CDJ-style track selection controls), which avoids tempation to stare at a laptop which is not a good habit to develop for anyone wishing to DJ out in public. There are obviously a few compromises to be made, some controls are missing (notably the parameter setting on the color FX section, and no "time" pot on the FX channel), but really there are very few compromises, and I prefer the assignable pad-based setup to the hot cue buttons on the standalone CDJs. As is typical with a controller, some settings have been moved from physical buttons (e.g. vinyl brake/start parameters and crossfader), which is not an issue but requires a bit of forethought. Overall though, this is extremely close to the club standard setup (CDJ2000nx2/DJM900nxs) for a fraction of the price. As always with Pioneer kit, build a and sound quality is top notch. The Rekordbox software has come a great distance since launch and it's been 100% stable in my use with no crashes or drop outs. I highly recommend this controller for anyone looking to get used to the "club standard" setup without breaking the bank. At a touch over £1000, its still pricey, but when you compare to other similar Pioneer products (XDJ-RX2 is 50% more and only 2 channels, admittedly it's a standalone unit not a controller but who doesn't own a laptop these days?).
After being a Traktor user for 9 years I finally decided to take the plunge on the DDJ-1000 for the closest I will ever get to the full club setup experience. Even though nearly 3 years old, it still holds it's own. Fantastic build quality as you expect with Pioneer and more than capable of stretching my abilities. I didn't think I would gain much from the jog wheel displays, but they have come in super useful. Traktor and Rekordbox are not too far apart and it hasn't taken me long to get into doing things Pioneer's way. Overall, very pleased. Also had great service from djkit.com. I've had the controller for little bit over a month now, so I had time to adjust to it . At first it felt overwhelming with all of the buttons and Rekordbox software but after some time and tutorials, you can adjust. As soon as you adjust you can start mixing things up with the effects sections and 16 pads for more creativity. A major selling point for me was 4 channels and basically having the full size CDJ jog wheels. The unit itself has a plastic build but it feels very well built and can easily tell that it will last for years to come. The Rekordbox software has a lot of information on the screen, I do wish they added a simplified skin or set up for beginners. With Denon Dj stepping up there game, I can see that Pioneer DJ will as well within the next couple years.

Also do not expect to use this with IPAD dj software since the controller requires an active driver for USB audio integration. The nothing on the board is user replaceable on the board unlike higher end units SO I strongly recommend buying and EXTENDED WARRETY a year of normal weekend use is about all these potentiometer will handle. On to Rekordbox, My only problem with Rekordbox (which is a huge deal breaking problem), is the lack of Ableton link integration. EVERY other DJ software on the market has Ableton link integration, even DJay for the IOS has it now, but pioneer and their propriety B/S has downright refused to integrate it into their software. There has been on going forum request for this free and open sourced software integration for two years. May of use who produce and do live remixes consider the lack of it a deal breaker. Going back to my oversized DDJ SZ. I guess if Pioneer keeps leaving stuff off we'll keep buying whatever they put out each year.
This would be the best controller on the market except for one major issue... It runs on Rekordbox. I used this controller for 8 months now. The truth is that Rekordbox is still not as polished as Serato. It kills me to sell this unit but I can’t get over a few things that make my life dificlult as a mobile and club dj. Number one issue is that they can’t figure out how to make the “mixed media” crates work. They are now on version 5 and it still doesn’t work. I have to search in two crates to look for songs. Half of my Library is videos and half is audio. It makes finding songs a challenge when I have to search for songs in two different areas. Also there is no prepare folder. There’s a “work around” but it doesn’t work the same. Some people might say “well, they ... MoreThis would be the best controller on the market except for one major issue... It runs on Rekordbox. There’s a “work around” but it doesn’t work the same. Some people might say “well, they are trying to do something different”. I say, there’s a reason why this feature is in Serato. Because it’s important and helps us prepare music for later in our set. Also, the “continue play” feature is in the software but you have to navigate through a few menus to get to it. So when you’re playing a cocktail hour you need to turn it on and then when it’s time for dancing you have to remember where it is in the software. In Serato it’s a button on the bottom of the screen ready to go. There are more issues but I’m running out of space. Very disappointed that rekordbox box is not up to par.
