Platinum #3776 Century Fountain Pen Laurel Green With Gold Trim Fine

(551 reviews)

The Platinum #3776 Laurel Green represents victory and glory, as laurel leaves were traditionally used in wreaths to crown winners. The rhodium-plated 14kt gold nib is a beautiful piece of work, made in-house at Platinum, and hand-tested at the factory. Weight 20g, 140mm long closed, 120mm open, 155mm posted. 15.4mm maximum barrel diameter. The Platinum #3776 Century range features the 'Slip and Seal' airtight screw-on cap, an innovative system which uses an inner plastic seal with a strong spring. The primary benefit of this system is improved storage ability - the ink will not dry out even if left for over a year. It also allows use of Platinum Carbon and Pigment inks. An added benefit is improved resistance to leaks due to pressure changes. Uses Platinum ink cartridges or fit a converter (available separately) for use with bottled ink. Platinum recommends Platinum Fountain Pen Ink, though of course any quality bottled ink can be used. The #3776 name comes from the height in metres of Mt.Fuji, the highest and most beautiful peak in Japan. Supplied gift-boxed.

Beautiful pen great design, writes like a dream

This pen is really delightful. It is my 3rd 3776 and first Century. This pen I chose in a soft fine, and I would add only a critique that the softness does take a moment to get used to and almost writes like the medium in width, but with less consistency in flow. It is fantastic, and once used to the design of the soft fine nib it is consistent and writes like a dream, it is just les wet, in it's light approach and requires a bit more of an intentional hand.

Everything from the gold to the blue to the nib and the shape is gorgeous on this pen. Very well balanced aesthetic that is interesting without being ostentatious. The UEF nib is a truly unique factory nib, and the Platinum nibs are fast becoming some of my favorite nibs. I have their Music nib that I really like, and the UEF doesn't disappoint either. The higher nib stiffness makes it more forgiving to write with and easier to be precise. The slip and seal mechanism on this pen means that I can use this pen as an auxiliary pen without worrying about the pen drying out, which makes it especially suitable for this use case. The fact that it matches with my Platinum #3776 Music nib so well also helps.

Lightweight and Pretty
30 October 2023

This is my first gold nib pen after a few years of using steel nibs. I did my research very thoroughly, as I wanted a gold nib that looked nice but also had a fine nib for thin writing. I’m so in love! It writes beautifully, with a slight feedback that makes me “feel” what I’m writing. Not scratchy, but close. Sheening ink still flows, but I do notice it has a tendency to clog slightly, so just something to keep in mind. It is more lightweight than what I had thought, but that has actually come to make the writing experience much better. My hand doesn’t tire as easily as with heavier pens, and it’s easy to slip it in my pocket, purse, or pen bag. I also like that the extra fine nib doesn’t write wet, as it lets me use different inks on bad paper without it bleeding ... MoreThis is my first gold nib pen after a few years of using steel nibs. Love the nib, but not the body
10 December 2021

Thoughts after ~a month of use:GOOD:- The nib feels great while writing. I usually prefer F's but I got this in M and the line is perfect.- Nice size and very light. I enjoy it both posted and unposted. (I have small-to-medium lady hands.)- Always starts on the first stroke. Maybe due to the special cap sealing mechanism? Then again, my TWSBI Diamond 580 hasn't hard started in nearly a year of use, so maybe not so special?BAD:- I was instantly struck by how cheap it feels. Not sure whether the other colors feel different, but this one sounds and feels like a $15 pen.- The grooves cut into the body. It looks like this "feature" is limited to the Nice translucent colorways. Visually it's neutral at best (not ****, but not "Ooh, that looks cool!"); tactile-wise the grooves are annoyingly sharp and, again, feel cheap. Luckily they don't continue down onto the grip, or I would definitely hate this pen.I'm having a hard time reconciling the good nib/writing experience with the underwhelming body experience. If I'd been able to handle it in person, I don't think I would have bought this colorway (even though I love the lavender/rose gold coloring of it). It does write beautifully, but in a world with SO many choices, I can't help feeling like there was probably a more OMG-I-love-it way I could have spent this much money, whether that's just on a different color of this pen, or some other pen entirely.

Oh that Chartres Blue !
27 May 2022

I bought this pen ( fine nib) when it was first introduced years ago mainly because I love Chartres cathedral and it’s blue stained glass and I happened to be writing about it at the time. For my first more expensive pen it has certainly been a winner. Wonderful to use, durable - a real work horse. The pen body has sustained a few scratches and marks but the nib is like new after years of use. I wanted to try the ultra fine nib for taking notes in the narrow margins of my Bible. I have been extremely happy with the ultra fine nib- I can even write between the lines using it . In general I find it to be a fine nib( no pun intended) for writing in all ways. And am very glad to have another 3776 on hand. I plan to get a medium nib next in the green! You cannot go wrong ... MoreI bought this pen ( fine nib) when it was first introduced years ago mainly because I love Chartres cathedral and it’s blue stained glass and I happened to be writing about it at the time. Overhyped and underwhelming.

I am a Japanese student who needs to write kanji and write them very, very small. I started off with a set of Kakunos and I had an EF vanishing point that was stolen, and I was recommended if I wanted to get even smaller to use a Platinum 3776. From the reviews I saw, visually and through text, it seemed like I could actually get smaller. Goulet's page said it didn't include a converter, so I grabbed a converter too when I bought it. Wait a while for it to get here and... It comes with its own converter. That was mildly upsetting but hey, might be a mistake, and I did get the gold one that matches, fine. I do a writing test with my various pens to see the scaling difference. Kakuno F is finer than Pelikan Twist, and Kakuno EF is finer and dryer than Kakuno F. ... MoreI am a Japanese student who needs to write kanji and write them very, very small. Platinum 3776 turns out to be no finer than my Kakuno EF, about as wet as my Kakuno F, and an order of magnitude more expensive than either. It may be a good go-to pen for writing with exceptionally dry inks on a tiny scale, but for what I bought it for - to have a good pen capable of writing beyond EF widths, I am sorely disappointed.

I received it promptly! In safe and perfect condition! But I haven't put ink in it yet, so I don't have any answers yet!! I will probably replace the (black?) ink in the cartridge with one of my bottled inks. I do have empty cartridges for this brand, and filled ones, but I haven't decided what color to use! Do you want to send this email back in about a month?!!! I do have white (orange ink) and green with green ink, and quickly bought this one, to get another ultra extra fine nib!! Very Nice Pen
18 August 2022

I bought this pen in EF, and even though I am usually a big fan of Japanese EF and F nibs, this one is very much a needle and not quite as smooth as I had hoped (maybe if I tune it a bit I can get it to be a bit more pleasant to write with). The acrylic is darker than I expected. The blue is gorgeous when held up to bright light, but in anything dimmer the blue is very hard to discern. For example, in my pen storage box with cream colored inserts the pen appears to be black. That was not what I expected. I have wanted the pen since it came on the market precisely because it is an homage to the blue used in the stained glass windows of Chartres Cathedral in France - a very famous blue that I have loved since I was very young. While I can appreciate that blue when I hold the pen up to the light, it is not possible to write that way! Perhaps if one only uses it outside on sunny days? It's a very nice pen. Platinum pens are great and I have and enjoy several from cheap to shamefully expensive but this one is probably my least favorite of the lot, which doesn't mean it's a bad pen, it's just not one of my more favored pens.

You need a fountain pen like this
15 January 2022

After watching many reviews and tons of fountain pen educational YouTube videos from Goulet Pen. I finally bought this one.The pen is very well made and love the gold tone barrel and engrave. The soft fine nib is so much fun to write with as which provides you a bit line variation to polish your calligraphy. With the bouncy feeling it almost feels like dancing on the paper. The only thing to be aware of it is there might be skip or hard to start if you paired it with a dry ink. Fill with juicy or wet ink, the pen will perform like a dream. Well, I still need more time to get used to this “bad boy”! But definitely love it.Thanks Goulet Pen for the well packaging, fast delivery and lovely ink sticker.
