We bought a pair of these for long hikes. On our first day hike using these, one of them split open on the side. Looking closely at them, you could see that the seam was much thinner on one side than the other; a manufacturing misalignment defect. It was thin enough that from normal use it split open. I was able to repair it enough using a lighter and melting the seam back together (had to do that twice during the trip) so all was not lost, but it's no fun having your backpack fill with water...We ordered replacements through here and the ones we received seemed much better at the seams, so we're happy to try it again. When well manufactured, these reservoirs are amazing. The strap clip is kind of finnicky but once you get it sorted out it works well.Note that it doesn't come with a standard cap which is useful to buy separately if you want to use it to carry water. The Hoser comes in 4 sizes, but the size/weight in use is obviously just the water, so I'd recommend getting the largest size you can afford for maximum flexibility and convenience.

I took this along on a 50-mile hike near plenty of water sources. I like the hose to sip water as I go. In that sense, it is as good as my 3L Platypus. The hose cllip on this 1L reservoir is not great, though. I wish they'd use the same clip that I have on my 3L version. Also, the small opening on this 1L reservoir is less convenient than the zip opening on the 3L version. I didn't have any problem with leaks, so that was good. I'll keep using this when I don't need to carry a lot of water, but I really wish the features of the 3L version would have been incorporated into this 1L reservoir.

I guess a water bladder is fairly straight forward but the design of a good water bladder can actually save your day. I give the Hoser Reservoir a 3 Stars review which I believe is not super good and not super bad, it's right in the middle really.what I liked:- fairly straight forward design where not much can go wrong- I liked the way they made the out valve at an angle because I have two packs I can use this bladder inside and both have a different route to get the hose out of the pack, one on the side, the other at the bottom - which this bladder make it easy for me to route.- the material used to build this bladder is of common grade, nothing really heavy duty and I guess keeps the weight down.- all component worked fine out of the boxWhat I don't ... MoreI guess a water bladder is fairly straight forward but the design of a good water bladder can actually save your day. The way they glued the mouth piece is not the best way to go when your pack has a tiny hole to route the hose out of the pack. Is it the fault of the pack maker for making such a small exit holes or is it the Hoser Reservoir for not having engineered this variable in their after market bladder???? I let you decide for yourself.

I wanted a bladder that would not give an off flavor like plastic. This hit the mark. Holds lots of water and does not impart any taste. Just what water should taste like. I have only done day trips so far, hoping that multi day trips have the same results. We’ll see! As always fast shipping, and free!! Great price!
The mouth valve on this is horribly designed. I loaded gear in the car, put my bag with hoser on the back seat. The drinking valve somehow was slightly squeezed by the bad or whatever was on top and the water siphoned out. Leather seat wet. All water gone. Thankfully I had my trusty camelbak with me filled with water. Otherwise I would have been without water at the trailhead. I’ve been a camelbak user for decades. Decades! Never had this issue. The hoser needs a bite valve lock. And I can’t return it because it’s been “used”.
I have had my Platypus Hoser for more than 15 years now and it still works great. It's the two liter version, very similar to this one. No complaints ever, easy to clean, light weight, and very durable. My version even has "patent pending" still on it. And a logo with a Platypus illustration, which I love! Thanks @Platypus for all these years of joyful and well-hydrated hiking and biking thanks to the Hoser :)
Unfortunately this bite valve just doesn't seal and drips right from being brand new. There is no need to bite it really, it just drips everywhere. I had a better version 20 years ago, blown away that this design is currently being sold. I do appreciate it is medical grade silicone, but not helpful if it doesn't keep water in the hose until it is needed. I don't think the valve cover would even help as it would just fill with water.
This is my second hoser because I love my first. I bought this to replace two bladders of a different brand that both broke and leaked. I wanted to have an extra to share with my adult children or my boyfriend whenever I suggested a hike, which is almost every weekend. My boyfriend ended up taking it to replace his broken bladder after he shopped his brand but noticed how light weight this one is. I got the cover for the bite valve so that it doesn’t get accidentally squished and let all the water out but you do have to be careful you don’t pull the whole valve off when opening the cover.
The best things about the Platypus bottles and reservoirs is their lack of a plastic taste. The Hoser is lightweight and stows easily when empty. If you use it for liquids other than water, you might prefer a zip version as easier to clean. One caveat - they don't dry readily, and the narrow mouth preempts being able to wipe the inside with a cloth. I bought an inexpensive aquarium pump and insert the tubes into the reservoir to dry it more quickly. I also have replaced the bite valve on some of my hosers with ones that have a shutoff valve, as if you set the pack on the bite valve or sit on it, it can leak - but I still think the advantages of neutral taste and light weight outweigh the other issues. I have 3, 2, and 1.8 liter hosers (the 1.8 is a better shape for ... MoreThe best things about the Platypus bottles and reservoirs is their lack of a plastic taste. I like the hoser because it is slim and fits in my slim bicycle hydration pack. Other hydration systems are too wide or large and have a strange mid-hose attachment that occurs in the wrong spot. I like the platypus version because the hose is sleek and easily slots through the pack slots and also it is slim but still holds a lot of water. with only one spot to refill and attach there is reduced chance of having a leak. Simple and reliable- just what you want in a hydration system.
