The new PS Vita trims the overall thickness of the launch model by 20%, going from 0.73" to 0.59", and the weight by 15% at just under half a pound. It's not quite pocketable, but it feels more like a portable than the hefty, bulky design of the original. Otherwise, the thumbsticks, action buttons, and D-pad are all the same. On the rear, however, Sony has scaled down the touchpad in order to make the grips larger, thus limiting erroneous commands caused by fingers spilling over onto the touch panel. The smaller surface area makes landing taps and gestures in specific corners of the touchpad easier, which is especially helpful during remote play with the PS4.On the top, Sony has removed the mysterious data port and security screw holes found on the previous model, leaving only the game card port. There are also a pair of new indicator LEDs — one that designates the power state and another to note new system notifications. In Japan, there's an array of new color options, including white, pink, blue, and green, which provide a much appreciated burst of color and capacity for personalization. Sadly, the global model foregoes alternative color schemes in favor of a flat black finish. It's also worth noting that there's no 3G or LTE variant at present, but given the added monthly cost, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise. The build feels cheaper than the previous generation, but it's not a significant step back. In spite of the thinner, lightweight plastic, the new PS Vita is still well constructed and durable.PS Vita (2013) Photos4 IMAGES The biggest change, of course, is the new display. Sony has traded the launch model's stunning OLED display in favor of a comparatively cost-efficient traditional LCD. Though the resolution remains the same, the LCD loses some of the brightness and vibrant color representation of the OLED. It's slightly less effective in daytime lighting, but to be fair, the OLED was barely useable outdoors to begin with. But transitioning to an LCD-based panel comes with some benefits, most notably battery life. During my testing, I was able to get up to 7 hours of battery life out of the new PS Vita — a two hour increase over the original's 5 hour average. What's more, the LCD's more muted color palette actually makes content look more natural than the OLED's oversaturated presentation. And speaking of power management, Sony has ditched the PS Vita's proprietary data and charging port and adopted a micro-USB connector — the same type used by the DualShock 4 and most smartphones and tablets. The new PS Vita also adds internal storage — a feature critically absent from the first-generation version. Each unit ships with 1GB of built-in storage, which can be used for system updates and other game data, though in truth, buying a separate memory card is still a must, especially if you plan on downloading content from the PSN.

This is an amazing console from Sony only to be not supported by the company . This consoles has good looks , great games to play on a beautiful OLED screen. I like how easy it is to use , I still have a PS Vita and use it , my least favorite feature not being allowed to play our own music while playing games . I highly recommend this console but it’s great features and games are are not supported anymore cause Sony chose to stop supporting this handheld which is a shame.

The Vita system itself was excellently packaged, having been wrapped up in bubble wrap. However, it was shipped with an incompatible cable, with it being USB-C while the Vita had a Micro USB port. I also took a moment to confirm that the 16 GB Vita memory card mentioned on the listing was indeed installed into the system on initial inspection. That mistaken cable wasn't a deal-beaker, as I had a spare micro USB cable sitting around, and I was able to use it in tandem with a Samsung power brick I had handy to recharge the Vita, as the battery had been totally drained on initial unboxing. While the Vita was charging, I decided to do a quick test of the buttons to see how they feel, and they felt good on first impression. The sticks also felt fine as well. While the Vita was charging, I decided to do a quick test of the buttons to see how they feel, and they felt good on first impression. The sticks also felt fine as well. After a bit of charging, I was able to run through initial setup, play the built-in Welcome Park game for a bit, and download a few free games off of PSN. However, the Vita was oddly picky about what cable I used to charge it... Initially, it gave up on charging after a few minutes, but swapping to a different cable and power brick I had sitting around, it charges up just fine. After the Vita charged up to full, I'm happy to report that the battery seems to be fine on first impression. The touch screen, all the buttons and the two sticks, and the back touch pad are all operational, as I had no issues playing the few games I've played on it thus far. Hacking the Vita system to further unlock its potential went smoothly, and I was able to use an SD2Vita adapter I got off of Amazon to expand its storage more easily compared to how I would've needed to pay out the nose for a high-capacity Vita memory card.

The Vita is still a great portable console in 2021. You can remote play PS3/4 games. There are quite a few vita exclusives that are well worth playing. Plus if you plan to hack (which I'd say most of us are) it's easy enough to do. If you hack it you can easily play PSP and PS1 games natively as well with near 100% performance and compatibility. Pretty impressive for a system this old! For most people I would recommend picking up a Vita 2000 series rather than the older 1000. They are slimmer, lighter, charge via microUSB, have a bit better battery life, and have some internal memory that negates the need for Sony's proprietary and discontinued (thus super overpriced) memory cards. They are slimmer, lighter, charge via microUSB, have a bit better battery life, and have some internal memory that negates the need for Sony's proprietary and discontinued (thus super overpriced) memory cards. You can pick up an SD2Vita adapter and a microSD card with 256GB of storage for less than a 16GB Sony card. The only major benefit of the 1000 series Vita is the nicer OLED display. So you really need to decide if that one pro is worth all of the other cons. Emulation can be a little disappointing on the Vita. NES, SNES, Genesis are generally fine...most 16bit and older consoles. But don't plan to play N64 or newer. If you can live with the few drawbacks, this is a high quality portable gaming system that's relatively easy to hack and repair yourself if need be. I would recommend it to just about anyone who hasn't had the pleasure to play on a Vita before.
The Vita is quite a good console to use despite its age. My main issue with it however is the somewhat lackluster catalauge of titles, especially when it comes to Sony's first-party studios, who only released a of couple games. There are a couple of gems here and there though. Once it's modded though, that's when the console really opens up. You can play PS1 titles, abandon the proprietary storage, download Homebrew, etc.
Device was carefully placed in bubblewrap packaging and was in excellent refurbished condition. Came with original Sony booklets and what appears to be unused/new power cables. IMPORTANT: Device was advertised "...with 8GB memory card" and it did NOT actually come with one. The PSVita 1000 doesn't have internal memory so this is critical; you will need to purchase a memory card. I contacted seller about this but never got a reply. However, Walmart was very responsive and was able to solve this issue quickly for me.
The ps vita arrived in very great condition almost like new. Had no scratches on the screen, the analog sticks were perfectly fine, has some scratches on the back but that doesnt bother me. My only issue I had was that a portion of the screen came with a yellow tint on the top. But it is not too much of a problem and can be fixed with a screen replacement. Lastly, the cartridge flap where you put the games does not close fully but still functions good. Overall I am very satisfied with the purchase although I wish it didnt have a yellow tint on screen its not some thing we have control over and can be fixed easily. Console looks almost brand new minus the scratches in the back.
I collect vitas and games for them and they are my preferred gaming device great for pick up and play the put it to sleep when you need to do something the batteries on these things are insane I've left mine in rest mode not charging for a week or more only to pick it up with very little if any drain on the battery. I've bought both my daughters vita they've had them for years. I bought them a switch last year the switch is collecting dust they still use their vitas daily. The vita community is awesome and has kept this device alive even though Sony had tried to kill it many times. The memory cards are the greatest downfall of this device however on the US playstore most game prices are very reasonable to make up for it. The memory cards are the greatest downfall of this device however on the US playstore most game prices are very reasonable to make up for it. You can assign a psn from any region regardless of your location. I suggest doing Us where the game prices are the best for instance Persona 4 I see selling on ebay lose no case for 50 to 80 dollars on psn it's 19.99. There is a chance you already have a library of games for your vita because of cross buy if you have purchased ps1, psp, or indi titles on your ps3, ps4, or psp, those games will be available to download to your vita it has more backwards compatability than any other Sony device...you can custom skin them through Co.like decal girls. I really can't praise this thing enough I just wish Sony liked it as much as I do. I'll leave you with some photos of my custom Resident evil themed vita and I hope this review helps somone out.
For being a 10 year old heldheld without much love from Sony, the ps vita has managed to remain relevant albeit in the shadow of the more powerful, modern, and popular Switch. Although Sony essentially has abandoned the ps vita 2 years ago, the ps vita has an impressive library of games with a handful of triple A titles that are at par with with its bigger brother the Playstation 3, and quirky and unique games like tearaway that utilizes the vita's many special features such as the front and rear touch screen and motion sensor. But, not only does the vita have a rather large library of games, but it also is backwards compatible with Sony's large catalog of previous generation of consoles such as the almost the entire catalog of games for the PlayStation Portable, in addition, to the Playstation 1, a few titles for the Playstation 2 and some ports for the Playstation 3. As you can see the Ps Vita with its twin analog joystick is an extremely versatile, yet under appreciated system. Nonetheless, there is still a cult following of the little handheld that Sony has essentially has forgotten, and that cult following blossomed with the introduction of CFW which opened the doors wide open for the ultimate experience what the ps vita is truly capable of doing. With CFW, the ps vita ultimately became the ultimate retro gaming handled on the go. Imagine having access to the entire library of games ranging from the Snes, NES, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance , Sega Genesis, Sega Master System, Sega Game Gear, Mame, the entire neo geo library, CPS1, CPS2, and dozens of more retro gaming goodness all displayed in a beautiful OLED screen. So, is the ps vita still a legitimate purchase in 2021 and beyond? My responce is yes it is most definitely!!!!
I first bought a PSvita 1000 which has a great OLED screen but weight and the size and the glossy front makes me paranoid of scratches. I decided to get a PSVita 2000 which that one is on the go for a very good price. I just didnt like the LCD screen but was able to hack it and made the screen more vibrant and the whites looking like whites since before it looked greenish or washed out. When I fix that I am using this Vita way more and it is more comfortable to hold. I love the white front and the light blue in the back and came with zero scratches. Very mint condition so I might order more stuff from this seller. I am really enjoying this vita which I missed out in 2014.
