Hello Guys, I got this drive, and it seemed to work just fine until you were attempting to download files to it. For some reason it would really choke and run slow while writing. I ran some crystal disk mark tests on it(pic included). And occasionally you could get it to show 500MB if your lucky. But for the most part I was getting write speeds below 100MB. And when I was using this drive as my main OS drive. This would create a lot of "freezing". If you were downloading any large files from BitTorrent, Steam(or any other digital platform) You really can't use your computer, unless you want to struggle through the freezing. I spent a lot of time testing the original SSD drive I had on multiple computers and same result. Which after they received the device, I received a replacement within 2 days. That was great. But there was no advanced device sent so I had a computer down for a nearly a week. Unfortunately the replacement drive was the same situation and slow write speeds. I bought a drive that should be capable of up to 500MB write speed, and I've now had two with the same below 100MB speed. I included a couple pictures from crystal mark, and a pic of me attempting to copy files from a M.2 drive over to this SATA drive.

I'm putting down 1 star to offset all the "incentivized reviews" that put such high rating on this device. PNY is a so-so brand name, but the real danger is mistaking SSD reliability for HDD reliability. SSDs are definitely faster, buy HDDs are definitely more reliable. I do data recover, and 99.9% of the time can rescue HDD drive, but a good portion (?%) of time SSDs that are corrupted are irretrievable entirely. It all has to do with how data is written onto HDDs versus how it is written onto SSDs. SSDs rely too much on electronics in series and dies with a spark of electricity. HDDs might die with a drop or electric shock, but data on drive can still be recovered with special techniques. This device compares reasonably with all the other SSDs out there -- it ... MoreI'm putting down 1 star to offset all the "incentivized reviews" that put such high rating on this device. ALL SSDs are faster than HDDs. Compare apples with apples, not race cars with toyotas. It is nice it has a USB cable included. The software download however implies your computer is still running well with the old drive and that you have Internet to download it. It is NOT in the box, nor on the drive. If you do a clone, it will clone your entire old drive provided your drive size matches the original -- be sure to buy the correct size drive. If you are trying to use the drive for data or fresh installation, you'll have to partition and format it manually or let the installation media do it for you. This is not something most people do everyday and may find much technical difficulty if done incorrectly.Realistically, comparing this SSD kit with other SSDs found elsewhere, I'd say it is about a 3 star overall in terms of quality, ease of use, weight. And again this has NOTHING to do with comparing it to HDDs - not a fair comparison.

I needed a new drive as I use a Crucial P5 for my boot drive which only has 512gbs (still an amazing drive and recommend the p5 on sale) and my 2tb barracuda was also full. The PNY drive has an average of 535 MB/s so its nothing to write home about compared to nvme ssd's.But MAN does it do its job so well. I'm able to copy and download files to it with ease. In GTA 5 I am able to load into single player at half the time it takes my hard drive to. Battlefields 4 and 1 load in at around 40 seconds, compared to the 3 MINUTES my hard drive would give me. Siege I moved from my m.2 to it and I still load into matches faster. Call of Duty warzone got rid of annoying texture pop-in/degradation on the SSD and Forza Horizon 5 is able to run textures at ultra settings. So ... MoreI needed a new drive as I use a Crucial P5 for my boot drive which only has 512gbs (still an amazing drive and recommend the p5 on sale) and my 2tb barracuda was also full. This drive is perfect for refreshing PCs and Laptops that still use hard drives. Especially ones that really just get used for web browsing and video streaming.I revived two laptops that were unusably slow because the hard drives were gimping otherwise decent hardware. It's very common. If you're in the market for a new PC, make sure it comes with an SSD.If I were buying an SSD for a gaming PC, I'd go with a higher end one. This one would be fine, but there are higher end ones that have bigger and better chips in them.
The end result was that the dual-core desktop boot-up time was reduced from a consistent 2-minutes and 32-seconds using the original hard-drive, down to a mere 36-seconds when booted using the newly-cloned solid-state drive (SSD) upon migrating it into the physical position of the original hard-drive. There were other minor operating system response time improvements. The marked performance improvements of the various software applications running on the operating system were brought about by doubling the computer's RAM, which was the second part of the enhancements for the targeted computer. The PNY offering, consisting of the SSD itself plus the interface cable (needed when cloning the original drive's content to the SSD via a USB port on the computer), is an excellent way to deploy the product. The cloning software, which needs to be downloaded, is only part of the software package; it also includes several other drive-related utilities. The interface cable can still be used afterwards when reading/writing to loose laptop hard-drives via one of the computer's USB ports. So all together, the 'kit' makes for a compelling value. For those preferring to click their way through the cloning process emboldened by blind intuition alone, rather than consulting the instructions in the accompanying downloadable user manual, be advised to first view on-line video tutorials that feature implementations via this 'kit'.
My first impression is that it's a great upgrade from my old HDD. Things definitely run faster and my laptop is generally snappier and more responsive. I like the fact that this SSD comes with a USB adapter cable and a free subscription to the Arconis software, which I downloaded, installed and registered using the serial number provided in the packaging. I think it's also a good idea to first use the Windows disk management tool in order to put a volume on the SSD and then quick format it before cloning. I'm not sure if it makes that much of a difference because I think the software will probably do it for you. Anyway, the cloning process took about an hour, which was faster than I expected, but, then again, I was only using about 92GB to begin with. Anyway, the cloning process took about an hour, which was faster than I expected, but, then again, I was only using about 92GB to begin with. And then, removing my HDD and replacing it with the SSD was as simple as you might imagine. Everything fit perfectly because my HDD, like the new SSD, is a 2.5" SATA drive, so there's not much to screw up there. I was pleased that everything transferred over to the new drive perfectly and that the system started up flawlessly. So now, whenever I reboot, the process takes about 1/8 the time that it used to. MS Word also launches much faster. In fact, pretty much all of my programs take a lot less time to start. So far, I'm pretty happy.
To start, I think this SSD is a really good deal, one of the best prices for a 500 GB SSD that I could find after shopping around. The cord it comes with for connecting SATA to USB can go for $10 by itself, so with it being bundled with this drive, it's almost like getting the SSD for $35 bucks!I originally bought this drive to store my PS4 games to play on my PS5, and the PS5 did recognize the drive at first and formatted it. after that, I tried transferring games from the PS5 drive to this external one, and I got an error "Something went wrong" before it finished. Some of the games did transfer over and they were playable, but after a day of trying to use the console as normal, I kept getting error messages that the drive was corrupt and had to unplug and plug ... MoreTo start, I think this SSD is a really good deal, one of the best prices for a 500 GB SSD that I could find after shopping around. Some of the games did transfer over and they were playable, but after a day of trying to use the console as normal, I kept getting error messages that the drive was corrupt and had to unplug and plug it back in for the games to be readable again. Before I would return it with these issues, I tried it with my Xbox to see if it faired any better. I've read online that the PS5 can be picky about which external drives it'll completely work with, so I wanted to give it another chance. As of now my Xbox hasn't had a single issue with the drive: it recognized it, formatted it, and I put several games on it without it corrupting or any kind of errors at all.In all, it seems to be a good drive for Xbox, but I would be wary of purchasing it to use it on PS5 after my experience. I'll update this review if any other issues crop up after more use, but I'm docking it a star now since I had a lot of hassle trying to use it with PS5 and wasted time with transfering and redownloading games with the errors.
2014 HP laptop with old school, very slow, 5400rpm 500gb Seagate drive. Thought "boy this thing is getting slower n slower with Windoze 10". Read about these SSD's breathing new life and speed so figured why not try it. Bought the 240gb ssd seeing I only used around 100 of my original 500 anyway. MAN was I blown away at the speed. Used to take 3-5 minutes to get booted up to a useable system. NOW? 40 seconds before it is ready to go! Only 10 seconds to shut down. After installing 4GB of memory a few years back and not seeing much of a boost I didnt believe upgrading to an SSD drive would do much more. Had to buy the Sata to USB cable for 13 bucks since its a laptop. ONLY issue is finding free cloning software. Macrium is the only one that will clone for truly free even if you are downsizing a drive from 500 to 240gb. Guess at this pricepoint they didnt want to include cloning software. But lots of them say free until you want to make a clone of your drive...Macrium is truly free. Took about an hour to complete the process. Took longer trying to find this awesome program after downloading so many others to discover cloning isnt free. Ugh.
