I fish this tied direct when aggressively fishing in stained but otherwise clear water Canadian shield waters on a Johnny Morris Carbonlite 2.0 & Shimano Curado DC casting rigs. When I slow things down I tie a 14 pound or 17 pound fluoro leader with a double uni knot and it holds like a champ when I am using Pflueger President 25 reels. I'll drop down to 15 pound when I drop to my Carbonlite 2.0 1500 spinning rig with equal success. The line holds up for several seasons and has little memory. When tying direct on my casting rigs I do have to retie after a couple of toothy fish but that is life.

I use Power Pro braided line on all my spinning reels. I tie a 12 to 15 foot fluorocarbon leader to the braid. Since the braid has zero memory you eliminate the coils that are ALWAYS present in fluorocarbon and monofilament and gain considerable distance on your cast. The brite yellow is highly visible and helps you to see soft bites by watching the line. The line is also extremely durable. When the color fades I pull all the line off the reel then cut the line at the spool and tie the faded end to the spool and wind the line back on the spool so that the unused end of the line is now being used. Since the fluorocarbon leader is being replaced regularly the braided line will last at least 3 years without having to replace it. Great line for long casts and no wind knots!
15 November 2020

I've previously used 15-lb. and 20-lb. PowerPro, but over the years I have had many wind knots. Fishing south of New Orleans this past summer, a guide told me he uses 40-lb. because it doesn't seem to get wind knots, yet it casts just fine. I spooled the red, 40-lb. line on my saltwater reel to use in Mexico, and sure enough, I got zero wind knots while my fishing buddy with 15-lb. test got quite a few. At the same time, I could outcast him as even 40-lb. PowerPro is thinner than the equivalent mono. Not to mention it didn't break even when I got hooks snagged on rocks off the shore in Puerto Vallarta - my fluorocarbon leaders broke first!

I'm going back to Spider Wire
19 August 2024

My hook-ups went down significantly after I switched to this line from Spider Wire. My brother stuck with Spider Wire and easily connects with 3 times as many fish as I do on the same trip. Before Power Pro we never had different results. I'm done with it....its just too visible to the fish I figure. (10 lb test)

Not liking it
29 October 2019

My braid history goes as such - tried fire line in 99. Went to spiderwire stealth shortly after ( good line ) back to mono for trolling , then tried powerpro again . No matter how i spool it on a levelwind ( with tape or mono backing ) it diggs in . Not only that it makes a zipping sound on the guides when a fish runs . Not a big deal but it makes you think about equipment failure . Im going all mono for trolling for so many obvious benefits , but i wont use power pro braid for even my float rods . I dont like fighting fish on braid anyways . People think you have more power over the fish on braid - total opposite - they have more control over you . A good mono tires them out quicker - its like fighting a rubber band ...

Power Pro Strong!!
5 April 2024

For several years now I’ve relied on Power Pro braid as my main bait casting line. In years gone by Berkeley Fireline was my main open faced spinning line for wade fishing rivers throwing mainly in-line spinners. At 75 years old I rarely wade fish rivers anymore as balance issues and slippery rocks come into play. I still fish a lot of rivers out of a boat and have replaced Fireline with Power Pro on my open faced spinning as I’d give Power Pro the edge on abrasion resistance .

Terrific!
10 September 2019

After studying internet reviews extensively I tried this braid a couple years ago and now its the only one I use. It has numerous good features, including strength, virtually neutral buoyancy and ties very well (I use uni knots threading 8-10 times and I have NEVER had it fail). I use 30 and 50 lb test for catfish and 10-20 lb test for bass. If you hang on bottom this line can be really difficult to break, so catfishing I use a 16-20 lb mono leader to the hook so I can break off there and retain the rest of my rigging. I also use the 10 lb test for crappie on my ultralight spinning rigs, with a 30 ft 4-6 lb mono leader. The braid helps tremendously in absorbing line twist from the mono. This braid retails in 300 yard spools for about 12 cents or more / yard but if ... MoreAfter studying internet reviews extensively I tried this braid a couple years ago and now its the only one I use. The Fall of Cabalas

As Cabela's continues its downhill quality and service after Bass Pro Shops bought them out. Cabela's never have anything in stock at their stores and when you order online, they get your order right about 50% of the time. Maybe that is acceptable to Cabela's/Bass Pro Shops, but I get tired of spending countless hours on the phone getting my order corrected which should have been correct in the first place. The latest example is I ordered Catfish sinker slides in a pack of 24, I received a pack of 12. Once again, I had to call Cabela's so I could get another pack of 12 which I don't even know if they carry a 24 pack. Misleading on purpose to deceive their customers to make more money or just more lack of quality and incompetence. I know Bass Pro Shops only cares about making money as their overpriced popular Bass Tracker boat trailers come with cheap removable tie down straps instead of quality tie down straps attached to the trailer. Anything to save a buck. They claim to support the police as I was DENIED any support when I went to the Bass Pro Shops in Gurnee, IL on multiple occasions about 25 years ago to get support and our Police Softball tournaments which raises money for Police Officers, their families, Special Olympics and people in need. They could had had free advertisement as a sponsor on the shirts as we had about 20 police departments from Wisconsin and Illinois. Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's now, the bare minimum to make a buck.

The Line is Too Fine
2 May 2023

There comes a point when some things have been refined too far and fishing line is one of those. This line is so fine it takes a surgeon's magnifier in order to even see the line. What is the purpose of such fine line? Have the eyes of a bass become better at seeing lines with a reasonable diameter? I am now an old man and will go to a local tackle shop where they will sell me some new line and string my reels for me.
