I am so thankful to Influenster and Pureology for sending me these hair products to try. I have mixed curl patterns. My curl pattern, I believe, is a 4b and 4c, but at the nape of my hair, my curls are a lot bigger, and it is a 4a, but the top/crown of my hair is straight. So I have a lot going on, and it's hard for me to find good products that are suitable for my hair. I will admittingly say that I am a certified, bonafied, qualified, and quantified product junkie (as my picture will attest), so when I say I have tried LOTS AND LOTS of products, I mean LOTS AND LOTS!! Saying all of that to say this -- the Pureology shampoo is THE BESTTTTTTTTTTTTT shampoo I have EVERRRRRRRRR used!!! Not only because of how amazing it smells, but because of the fact that it literally feels like it MELTS my hair and makes my hair so silky, smooth and soft. I mean, like literally, it was so very soft and manageable that I truly was able to detangle it with just the shampoo in it!! Usually, I would have to pre-poo, but for the sake of this review, I skipped the pre-poo and only used the products that were sent so that I could get a true, honest opinion. I panicked because it said there was no need to condition my hair afterward. All you do is shampoo, and then apply this top coat product that you leave on for about 10 minutes and rinse off, and then apply the leave-in conditioner that also smells divine. All in all, it left my hair so, so, nice and soft, and the smell is divine. Now, I never was good with wash and gos before because my hair would poof out into a dry-looking semi-afro, but with this line, my curls are popping, and it's not a Q-tip like it usually is. This top coat provides SO MUCH shine luster! With it being Covid and with me not having anywhere to go, I do not wash my hair nearly as much as I use to, because it's not like I'm out in the elements of the world, nor am I sweating or anything -- so as I'm writing this review, it's been three days since I have put ANYTHING else in it, and my curls are just as prominent and lustrous as they were the night I washed them. So, I am totally in love with this line of products and will totally implement them in my haircare routine. They say that when you find something that is right, you need to stick with it, and since this product has been so intensely and utterly satisfying, I will continue to use it. As my middle picture attests, clearly I am a certified, bonafied, qualified, and quantified product junkie! I have been around the block a time or four thousand dealing with these different products, so I have the experience to know various products, and this line of products seriously ranks amongst the top of them all! It is my pleasure to proudly confess and state that from this point on, I will continue to use Pureology's hair products in my hair care regimen from here on out! Thank you again, Pureology and Influenster for allowing me the opportunity to test out these amazing products and helping my hair to get its luster, softness, manageability, and adoration of my beautiful natural curls and bringing them to life! Supreme gratitude!!

Changed my hair game for the better

I don’t know why so many comments rag on the scent… Who doesn’t like peppermint?! It smells heavenly while instantly relaxing me, like I’m in a spa in my own shower. I also love the cooling sensation it gives my scalp from the peppermint; it’s invigorating! I was first introduced to this particular product of the Pureology line while I was getting my hair done and absolutely fell in love. My hair is extremely long (easily falls to my mid-butt), thick, and it’s fully colored. This shampoo and the corresponding conditioner have saved my hair and allowed me to grow it out as long as I have despite all the damage I’ve done to it through coloring. I hardly have any split ends and overall my hair feels very moisturized without it becoming oily. Truly one of the best shampoos for color treated hair. The price is a little up there, but I really don’t mind paying more for a quality shampoo that I genuinely like and benefits my hair so much. If you’re hesitant, try the travel sized bottle!

Found a Keeper

I am a creature of habit. For years I have been using the same shampoo and conditioner quite simply because it is the only one that I absolutely LOVE. It took me ages to find a shampoo/conditioner that worked well with my hair type. Every now and again I will venture out and try some of the samples I receive but without fail, they almost always don't seem to measure up to what I am already using...until now. I tried a sample of this shampoo and conditioner while I was away on a trip. I had absolutely no idea what this product was, what it did for my hair, nothing. It was simply a sample I could use for convenience and move on. Only, I didn't move on. I was completely blown away at how wonderful this product was. To start, a little goes a long way. I love the way it lathers and feels in my hair while cleaning/washing and I also love the way my hair feels when the shampoo is rinsed out. My hair tends to feel stripped of all nutrients after the shampoo stage when I use other shampoos but this time, it didn't. It has a lovely mild fragrance. It's not an inexpensive shampoo but full disclosure. It leaves my hair feeling so unbelievably soft and manageable for days, that I only have to wash my hair once - twice at the most - a week. It's just that good! And wait until I tell you about the conditioner xo

Great shampoo!!

I was skeptical at first about this product. I am one of those people that really cannot stand when my hair feels the slightest bit greasy after washing it. I used to use hempz moisture Shampoo and conditioner but unfortunately they don't sell that kind at ulta. I tried several shampoo and conditioners in the meantime including biolage, matrix, redken, and a few other small label brands all meant for color safe hair. While I found that these brands did the job, some of them left my hair feeling dirtier than before washing it. I went out on a limb and tried pureologies hydrate and color safe line based off of reviews alone and the fact that the shampoo was sold out pretty much everywhere I tried to buy it. I ended up buying it online and it didn't take long to arrive. I must say that while the smell is not my favorite, a slight eucalyptus-ish peppermint scent, it is wonderful shampoo (and conditioner) that does not leave the slightest amount of residue in your hair. It lathers great and you only need a small amount. My hair is the softest and most manageable than it has been in a long time. I have naturally wavy, coarse, and very thick hair that I dye dark brown and this does miracles for it. I highly highly highly recommend this shampoo (and conditioner) if you can get past the not so enticing scent.

To preface. I'm a 25 female. Natural light brown hair, bleached low maintenance blonde. Thick wavy frizzy hair that reaches the lower bottom of my back. Prone to split ends and breakage at the bottom of my hair. No extensions. I wanted to add this so people with similar hair types can relate. So to start, I'm so torn on this shampoo... I tried it for 3 weeks and I do like that this shampoo and conditioner cuts down on my overall frizz and made my hair so much smoother and less likely to tangle which is exactly what I was looking for. BUT there is some things about this shampoo I just can't ignore. First off the smell, I just can't get past it. It reminds me of a menthol cigarette. It just smells sooo minty and lingers after washing. Some people may not mind the smell but if my shampoo is going to linger, I'd prefer it to smell like something other than strong mint and almost a tea tree smell. Second, when the conditioner sets for a couple minutes before rinsing out I've noticed that my back and neck where the product has been laying in my hair will get very cold and tingly. Almost like how when you have a breath mint you get the same effect in your mouth but it's on your body this time. This alone made me decide not to repurchase. I like my shower water very warm and I found myself constantly turning the heat up because while the conditioner set I would get extremely cold from the tingly feeling. It can be overwhelming sometimes and linger even after washing the area thoroughly and drying off. I would assume if this was a shampoo and conditioner without the minty smell that I was having an allergic reaction to it but since it has that smell I just really don't know if the tingle is intended or not. And lastly, I've noticed a lot of small breakage at the top of my hair by my scalp. I'm not prone to breakage that high and only notice it after a fresh bleach every once and a while although it is usually very rare for me. I should note that it has been 3 months since my last bleach since I am a low maintenance blonde and I was not using this product during my last bleach. I also take a lot measures to protect my hair that could be the cause of breakage that high. So at this point only thing I've changed is this shampoo and conditioner. I've decided not to finish the rest of the bottle due to concerns about further breakage. This is just my experience. Some people seem to love it but it's a no from me. I hope this helps some people on the fence after reading conflicting reviews. I've switched to Joyco kpac reconstructing shampoo that has also given me the same desirable results so far with a much better smell, no breakage, and most importantly no tingly feeling on by skin.

Not for every hair type

I'm giving it two stars because I know it's a good hair brand. Just not for me. Please refrain from buying if you have thin hair or just a sensitive scalp. I promise you the outcome will be bad. This is my second time trying pureology. The first time, I experienced hair loss but I thought it was because I colored my hair, either way I stopped using it and switched to briogeo. I recently colored my hair again and decided to give pureology a try again. I washed my hair today and a lot of my hair came out as i was rinsing. I'm talking about maybe 4-6 strands at a time I was pulling out of my hair and no it was not literally pulling. Just like running my hands through my hair and I was seeing so much hair loss. As someone who usually loses only 1-2 strands at a time, it's concerning!! I lost about 100-115 strands ( I usually only lose like 40-55) I spoke to one of the associates and she said it might be the menthol in their products - she said a lot of people don't do well and might be allergic to it. So if you have a sensitive scalp and thinner hair, this may not be the best thing for you I would really recommend fully knowing what your hair can and cant handle before buying this. Please save your money if you have same hair conditions like myself. It's pretty expensive too and it is not worth it for someone like me.

Not for me!

The good: It's an effective shampoo for my medium-coarse, slightly frizzy hair, without the dreaded SLS. If you've ever tried an SLS-free shampoo before you'll know that they're not always the most effective at cleansing and removing hair styling products/build-up! And the bad? It makes my scalp itchy after a few uses, especially if I use, rinse and repeat. It's also full of chemicals, despite no SLS, and yet also has some good botanicals thrown in which is confusing.... It's like the best and worst of both worlds. The (also) good: It's a vegan-friendly product, the shampoo itself has quite a luxurious texture, gives a nice tingling sensation as you apply and I really like the minty-citrus fragrance in here. It also doesn't strip my hair color whatsoever, if ... MoreThe good: It's an effective shampoo for my medium-coarse, slightly frizzy hair, without the dreaded SLS. It also doesn't strip my hair color whatsoever, if anything it brings out the best in my highlights. If it wasn't for the itchiness I would definitely continue using this, not least because it's probably the priciest shampoo I've ever picked up! -> My 'Ulta Beauty Top 7 must-have list' (My 7 favorite beauty products of all time, focusing mainly on my purchases at Ulta) < - < 1. Not worth the price - There is much better out there!

I purchased this shampoo and conditioner line and hopes that it would do well with my allergies. I have been suffering from any fragrance due to strong shampoo and conditioners. It has a very light natural oatmeal scent which I thought would not bother me. While it definitely did not bother me as much as other scents, I do not believe it is worth what they are charging for it. The shampoo is extremely thin, you cannot pour it onto your fingertips because it will run right off. You have to pour it straight into your palm and then almost smush it into your hair in order to make sure that it all goes in. Since it is so thin, you have to end up using more than you would like. Truthfully it did nothing special for my hair, it did not leave it any more moisturized than normal, if anything it made it feel more weighed down and greasy. If you are looking for an unscented, hypoallergenic shampoo and you have normal hair, try the brand Attitude. It is just as natural if not more, and for half the price. They offer a great line of hypoallergenic, soft scented shampoo and conditioner. I would not purchase this again.
