Pureology Hydrate Sheer Conditioner 266 ml

The good: It's an effective shampoo for my medium-coarse, slightly frizzy hair, without the dreaded SLS. If you've ever tried an SLS-free shampoo before you'll know that they're not always the most effective at cleansing and removing hair styling products/build-up! And the bad? It makes my scalp itchy after a few uses, especially if I use, rinse and repeat. It's also full of chemicals, despite no SLS, and yet also has some good botanicals thrown in which is confusing.... It's like the best and worst of both worlds. The (also) good: It's a vegan-friendly product, the shampoo itself has quite a luxurious texture, gives a nice tingling sensation as you apply and I really like the minty-citrus fragrance in here. If it wasn't for the itchiness I would definitely continue using this, not least because it's probably the priciest shampoo I've ever picked up! -- My Top 10 Beauty Must-Haves

I am so thankful to Influenster and Pureology for sending me these hair products to try. I have mixed curl patterns. My curl pattern, I believe, is a 4b and 4c, but at the nape of my hair, my curls are a lot bigger, and it is a 4a, but the top/crown of my hair is straight. So I have a lot going on, and it's hard for me to find good products that are suitable for my hair. I will admittingly say that I am a certified, bonafied, qualified, and quantified product junkie (as my picture will attest), so when I say I have tried LOTS AND LOTS of products, I mean LOTS AND LOTS!! Saying all of that to say this -- the Pureology shampoo is THE BESTTTTTTTTTTTTT shampoo I have EVERRRRRRRRR used!!! Saying all of that to say this -- the Pureology shampoo is THE BESTTTTTTTTTTTTT shampoo I have EVERRRRRRRRR used!!! Not only because of how amazing it smells, but because of the fact that it literally feels like it MELTS my hair and makes my hair so silky, smooth and soft. I mean, like literally, it was so very soft and manageable that I truly was able to detangle it with just the shampoo in it!! Usually, I would have to pre-poo, but for the sake of this review, I skipped the pre-poo and only used the products that were sent so that I could get a true, honest opinion. I panicked because it said there was no need to condition my hair afterward. All you do is shampoo, and then apply this top coat product that you leave on for about 10 minutes and rinse off, and then apply the leave-in conditioner that also smells divine. All in all, it left my hair so, so, nice and soft, and the smell is divine. Now, I never was good with wash and gos before because my hair would poof out into a dry-looking semi-afro, but with this line, my curls are popping, and it's not a Q-tip like it usually is. This top coat provides SO MUCH shine luster! With it being Covid and with me not having anywhere to go, I do not wash my hair nearly as much as I use to, because it's not like I'm out in the elements of the world, nor am I sweating or anything -- so as I'm writing this review, it's been three days since I have put ANYTHING else in it, and my curls are just as prominent and lustrous as they were the night I washed them. So, I am totally in love with this line of products and will totally implement them in my haircare routine. They say that when you find something that is right, you need to stick with it, and since this product has been so intensely and utterly satisfying, I will continue to use it. As my middle picture attests, clearly I am a certified, bonafied, qualified, and quantified product junkie! I have been around the block a time or four thousand dealing with these different products, so I have the experience to know various products, and this line of products seriously ranks amongst the top of them all! It is my pleasure to proudly confess and state that from this point on, I will continue to use Pureology's hair products in my hair care regimen from here on out! Thank you again, Pureology and Influenster for allowing me the opportunity to test out these amazing products and helping my hair to get its luster, softness, manageability, and adoration of my beautiful natural curls and bringing them to life! Supreme gratitude!!

About me: I have long, fine, blonde hair with dry ends and an oily scalp. My hair seems to get tangled up almost as soon as I finish brushing or combing it, so dealing with wet hair after a shower is the part of my routine I dread the most, and also the part that takes me the most time. Even though my scalp is oily, moisturizing shampoo seems to be a good choice for managing it. My hair feels clean without feeling stripped, and something I've learned about oily hair and skin is that if you take all the oil away, your body could start to overcompensate. In other words, it's better to never leave your hair or skin feeling stripped because your body might start producing even MORE oil when that's the thing you're trying to prevent! I was excited to try this shampoo, but found it odd that it didn't come with a matching conditioner for daily use. After using this shampoo for the first time, I realized why. The shampoo itself was so moisturizing that I didn't actually feel the NEED to use conditioner for a change. Don't get me wrong, I still used the in shower deep conditioning treatment or the leave in conditioner/heat protectant spray each time I washed my hair, but, I can see why there isn't a daily use conditioner in addition to those products. I used the shampoo once or twice Without using any type of conditioner, and my hair still felt nice afterwards. To be honest, I HATED the smell of the shampoo when I started using it, but over time it's grown on me. I still prefer the smell of the in shower deep conditioning treatment though. Would I buy this shampoo again? Probably not, since it's quite a bit more expensive than I'd like and I don't Love the smell (my reason for 4 stars instead of 5).... BUT, it worked great. If smell and price aren't an issue for you, this is a good choice!

Do not buy

I tried this for the first time and I really don't know how everyone hyped this up. The shampoo of this line is overwhelming with the lavender scent (not sure if it's actually that but that's what the smell is close to) but it made my hair fall out, in chunks by day 4 and the conditioner of this line has an overwhelming scent of menthol. It burned my head too much and after the rinsing of the hair from the conditioner, more hair fell out. you can not get the menthol smell out of your hair no matter how many times you try and rinse it out. I have blonde medium thick hair down to the middle of my back. I do shed somewhat, BUT the amount that's been falling out and being in chunks is not normal for me. At all. Please just be aware this could happen, as I am going back ... MoreI tried this for the first time and I really don't know how everyone hyped this up. Just really disappointed about the whole situation.

Extreme amount of hair loss

I bought this shampoo and conditioner the beginning of January this year and I'm only reviewing now after discovering a huge number of users are reporting hair loss and I have come to the conclusion it is responsible for my increasing loss of hair as well. The shampoo smells terrible, like really awful but I was willing to deal with that because I thought it was a better quality shampoo that I see recommended often. This condition actually smells really good in my opinion. Within the last 6 months I've noticed more hair loss and it's literally been increasing every month. I only accidentally stumbled upon other users reports of hair loss because I was desperately searching for help because it's gotten so bad that after using my wet brush I legitimately have almost a ... MoreI bought this shampoo and conditioner the beginning of January this year and I'm only reviewing now after discovering a huge number of users are reporting hair loss and I have come to the conclusion it is responsible for my increasing loss of hair as well. I only accidentally stumbled upon other users reports of hair loss because I was desperately searching for help because it's gotten so bad that after using my wet brush I legitimately have almost a full handful of hair loss. I added a photo I took today after brushing. Since I'm followed by a dermatologist and an endocrinologist and know my blood work is perfect I believe it's due to the shampoo which is the only "change" in the last year, I'm absolutely devastated.

Go to for fine hair hydration

I used this product from when it was put on the market(which I'm pretty sure was called "hydrate light" then) until about 2-3 years ago. I have fine low porosity hair that I have not chemically processed in 13 years, and had no problems, unless I used it on my scalp(now I know not to do that lol). Plus, you don't need to use much. I stopped using it because as a human being, I got bored using the same thing over and over again. I have tried many new products, but once I am done with what I have now I will be repurchasing the hydrate sheer line again . I used to be able to put curls in my hair and they would stay for days, now I'm lucky if they stay a few hours. This gave me the perfect amount of hydration to balance my hair, I just didn't know it until I tried ... MoreI used this product from when it was put on the market(which I'm pretty sure was called "hydrate light" then) until about 2-3 years ago. I can only recommend this to people with the same fine non processed hair as myself, but if you can definitely make it your next splurge. Also, I used this product for years in both humid(east coast) and dry(south west) climates, and it works well in both!

No, just no

I was really looking forward to this shampoo and conditioner duo. I have thinner hair but a lot of it, that have worked hard to repair. It's just passed my shoulders. I recently bleached it and wanted to ensure I wouldn't have the same problem of breakage as before. I chose this product (and matching shampoo). The shampoo smelled like the dog shampoo I used on my dog when I was a child. Very overpowering essential oil scent, which was tolerable but the conditioner was too much. It felt like icy hot or menthol on my scalp. My scalp had a cold feeling but not in a good way. After rinsing, which I only washed and conditioned once, my hair air dried and had a lot of static which translates to it being very dry (which I haven't had a problem with in quite some time), and ... MoreI was really looking forward to this shampoo and conditioner duo. It has been 3 days since I used this one time. One wash and one condition, my scalp is finally starting to feel some relief of itching. I exchanged this for the Biolage moisturizing damaged line. I got a large shampoo and small conditioner for the same price as two small bottles. I did read reviews for this and the several other pureolgy lines and this one is supposed to be fore thinner fine hair such as mine. For the cost, I really wanted to like this line better and it did not hit the bar for me at all :( ★★☆☆☆

Perfect for my fine hair

This product was moved to the back of the cupboard while I switched to a hair loss shampoo/conditioner due to a medical issue that resulted in me losing hair. My hair loss issue has been resolved and I decided to embrace my natural hair color. I recently had most of the chemical color removed from my hair to help transition to my natural hair color and I wanted to be sure I kept my hair hydrated. I remembered I had the Hydrate Sheer Conditioner so I brought it back out, applied it as recommended and left it in my hair for about 3-5 minutes as I shaved, etc. in the shower. I was able to easily brush through my towel dried hair and had plenty of body and shine after blowdrying it. My hair feels soft but not weighed down or greasy and it looks healthy. I'm glad I remembered I had this conditioner and didn't waste money buying something new.

The Best!

I’ve been using Pureology for about 10 yrs with only a few other trials in between bc nothing else I’ve tried compares (Living Proof, OUAI, KMS, Goldwell). My hair never looks better, smoother, or feels softer than when I use Pureology. I admit I don’t love the smell of the Hydrate sheer conditioner (eucalyptus ish), but it’s not noticeable after I shower & I can’t argue with the results! One word of caution, don’t bother to buy this from outside sellers. I learned the hard way (buying the 33.8 fl oz!) that these can be fake or doctored in some way. At first I wondered what was wrong with my hair…was I damaging it with high heat from my blow dryer? I didn’t even think of it initially, but within days of using this product after buying it directly from the Pureology ... MoreI’ve been using Pureology for about 10 yrs with only a few other trials in between bc nothing else I’ve tried compares (Living Proof, OUAI, KMS, Goldwell). Used to love but not anymore.

I love Pureology shampoo and conditioner. I don't buy it often because it is so expensive. When the liters went on sale at the first of the year I excitedly purchased them. I waited to start using them until I got my hair done knowing I would have fresh color and wanted to use the Pureology then. Unfortunately even though the actual shampoo and conditioner are amazing to use I was finding that my hair was very weighed down. I have long straight hair that I love when it is clean and has some body but when I used the Pureology it just looked greasy and flat. Around the same time my daughter also had her hair done and started borrowing my products. Interestingly enough she experienced the same results.
