Something changed recently. The oats do not absorb water much anymore or become creamy. It cooks more like a soup now. I have been eating this for breakfast for decades and not I am not sure I like it anymore. I even tried putting them in Milk over night and it was still like soup. The creamy oats are gone. What did they do to the oats. Makes me wonder if they are not healthily anymore. Seems like they coated them in something to not allow the oats to absorb moisture. Also I tried baking oatmeal cookies. I had to change the recipe to make the cookies good. The oats are definitely not the same anymore. Before they changed I would have rated them a 5 star.
These are excellent oats for making stovetop oatmeal. Of course, the price has gone up over the last year, due to Bidenflation, but, the product is still excellent. For two servings, I measure one cup of oats into a saucepan, add 12 ounces of coconut water (or, coconut milk or almond milk), drizzle in some honey and/or stevia powder, dash in some cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla powder and allspice, and, turn the burner heat to low. Stirring occasionally, the oatmeal basically cooks itself and will be ready in about 15 minutes, after the liquid is completely absorbed by the oats. Delicious!Make sure to store these oats in an airtight container (I use Lock
In my house, we eat Quaker Oats for breakfast fairly often. I make it according to the package instructions. My husband likes to add maple syrup; but, I think it is delicious with brown sugar, cinnamon, raisins and walnuts. The Vanishing Oatmeal Cookie recipe on the box is easy to make and we love them. I make an Apple Oatmeal Crisp for friends and family gatherings and I use Quaker Oats to make a great crunchy topping for it. I have tried using oats instead of breadcrumbs for meatloaf; but, it was not my favorite use of it. I have been eating Quaker Oats my whole life and wouldn't be without it.
Quaker Old Fashioned Oats in the 64 ounce size is a must in my household. Not only is it great for breakfast, but also oats have multiple uses in my food preparation. Making your own oat flour in a blender is quick and easy. I use oat flour for baking quick breads and muffins or adding to other dishes as a thickener or binder such as with homemade veggie burgers or veggie loaves. It can also be used as a breading. Another way to use oat flour is to combine dates with the ground oats as a pie crust. Of course, you can beat oatmeal for a satisfying, fiber-fueling breakfast.
I will say that I only just started to use these for overnight oats. It's been several months now. I noticed that my oats were much creamier when I let them sit longer in the refrigerator. If I make them at 9:00pm for breakfast the next day, they are okay. If I add milk at 3:00pm or 4:00pm the day before and let them sit longer, they are much creamier. Hope that helps everyone complaining about the creaminess. I also add almond extract or bananas and peanut butter powder and chia seeds. Yum!
My favorite is Old Fashioned ROLLED Oats. Cant seem to find them, our walmart used to always have them but not now for some reason. I tried the others but I dont like them. Been eating them since the 70s but now may stop unless I can find the Rolled ones. they absorb the liquid and become a nice thick oat. My favorite breakfast. I went on line to try and find them locally but they all just say Old fashioned which our not the same. so I give 5 starts to the ROLLED Old Fashioned oats but the other I give 4 if I cook them on low they come out some better but still nothing like Rolled. I do not like the quick oats.
I have used this recipe for many, many years, introducing and sharing the special goodness with my grandchildren, making the cookies a special request often. The "Enticer" for me is the cakey side of the cookies (that, to my chagrin, some reviewers I've come across find unappealing) which is what sets them on a pedestal far above any other oatmeal cookies for me. It's only since retiring that I am finding the missed opportunities to give credits where credits are due. I don't have any creative experiences that I see others have wonderfully shared, except that I substitute an abundant amount of walnuts for the raisins and most recently substituted baking powder for baking soda - 3 tsp. powder for 1 tsp. of soda - to make bars instead of cookies, and guess what?
