It offers aluminum and stainless steel models with various colors and finishes. - **Durability**: It’s highly durable with an IP6X dust-resistant rating and WR50 water resistance, making it suitable for swimming and outdoor activities. - **Always-On Retina Display**: The display is bright and clear, even in outdoor conditions. The Always-On feature allows for a smooth user experience without needing to raise your wrist to view the time or notifications. ### **Health Fitness Tracking** - **New Temperature Sensor**: One of the biggest additions is a temperature sensor that aids in cycle tracking and can provide insights into overall health. For women, it’s particularly useful for monitoring menstrual cycles and ovulation. - **Advanced Sleep Tracking**: Series 8 improves on sleep tracking, offering detailed insights into REM, core, and deep sleep stages. - **ECG and Blood Oxygen Monitoring**: It retains the ECG app and SpO2 sensor for measuring heart rhythm and oxygen levels in the blood, which can be vital for tracking heart health and respiratory issues. - **Crash Detection**: A major safety feature introduced is Crash Detection. It uses new motion sensors to detect severe car crashes and automatically alert emergency services. - **Workout Features**: The watch offers a wide range of workout options, from running and cycling to swimming and yoga. It also integrates with third-party fitness apps and provides detailed metrics for runners, including cadence, stride length, and more. ### **Performance** - **S8 Chip**: The watch runs on the new S8 chip, offering faster performance and better efficiency. Apps load quickly, and interactions are smooth. - **Battery Life**: Battery life is similar to previous models, lasting around 18 hours with regular use. However, a new Low Power Mode can extend the battery life up to 36 hours by limiting certain features like the Always-On Display and auto workout detection. ### **Software** - **WatchOS 9**: Series 8 runs on WatchOS 9, which introduces more advanced health insights, new workout modes, medication reminders, and improved customization for watch faces. - **Connectivity**: It supports cellular connectivity (in models that offer it), allowing you to make calls, send texts, and use data without needing to carry your iPhone. ### **Other Features** - **Temperature Sensing for Women’s Health**: It provides retrospective ovulation estimates by monitoring body temperature changes during the night, making it a useful feature for those tracking fertility. - **Compass Backtrack**: A new feature for hikers or explorers, it helps retrace your steps if you get lost, making it great for outdoor adventurers. ### **Pros** - Strong health and fitness tracking features. - Crash Detection for added safety. - Always-On Display and sleek design. - Advanced workout metrics. - Temperature sensor for fertility tracking. ### **Cons** - Battery life, while decent, hasn’t significantly improved. - Many of the new features (e.g., temperature tracking) are more niche, so some users may not find them essential. - The price is relatively high, especially for the stainless steel models or cellular versions. ### **Price** The Apple Watch Series 8 starts at around AUD 629 for the GPS model and AUD 759 for the GPS + Cellular model, with additional costs depending on case material and bands. ### **Final Verdict** The Apple Watch Series 8 is a robust upgrade, especially for those focused on health and fitness. The temperature sensor and crash detection are valuable additions, and the overall user experience is as smooth as ever. However, if you’re coming from the Series 7, the improvements might not feel groundbreaking unless the new health tracking features are critical for you. For first-time buyers or those upgrading from an older model (e.g., Series 5 or earlier), the Series 8 is a solid investment.

I am extremely pleased on purchasing this Geek Squad certified refurbished Apple Watch 8 45mm “Product Red”. I ordered the M/L sport band version and lucked out by receiving both S/M and M/L sport bands as pictured. I also received the USB-C charger which was basically new since it wasn’t unwrapped from its normal packing. The only issue I thought I had was that the watch wouldn’t turn on when I picked it up at customer service and when I put it to charge I saw the RED charging logo of doom! At first I thought it wasn’t going away but did read online to let the Watch charge for more than 45 minutes since it might be extremely drained for being packed away for so long. After a full charge and wearing it daily I can absolutely say that it works perfectly! Battery life is great and the features are awesome! I highly recommend it and the Geek Squad Certified Refurbished option, you will not be disappointed. Since the watch was in perfect condition with no scratches or dents plus the bands and charger were new.
After purchasing and returning a dud iWatch 8 with a battery that would not last 6hrs via another retailer I was nervous about having a second go. But I wanted an iWatch 8 and so decided it was time to purchase. I went via John Lewis rather than Apple.com as you get a 2 year guarantee versus the Apple 1 year. The price was also marginally cheaper via John Lewis.I purchased the red version - as a donation is made to HIV/Aids foundation for every one purchased. It synced easily and perfectly with my iPhone XS and I was able to update the iWatch to the latest software with no issues whatsoever.I do have a wide wrist and so was pleased with 2 strap lengths included in the box.You get a whole variety of iWatch faces to choose, plus you can personalise the display ... MoreAfter purchasing and returning a dud iWatch 8 with a battery that would not last 6hrs via another retailer I was nervous about having a second go. Such wizardry.I'm alerted when I receive a phone call, and a text message, and calendar events pop up. Also my bank and credit cards are synced so whenever a purchase is made I am immediately alerted - really useful. Why iWatch versus Fitbit, or various other android versions... well why have something inferior when you can have the best. And the best is an iWatch!
Infuriating how some simple things just don't work.Apple emphasizes health and sleep is one of the most important components of your health. The Sleep tracking app cannot even perform simple subtraction. Hours in bed, minus hours awake, is never close to hours asleep, varying by almost two hours sometimes. For instance, the watch will report being in bed for 8 hours and being asleep for 7 hours and 45 minutes, but also reports being awake for 1 hour and 45 minutes. How can you be awake for 1 hour and 45 minutes in a 8 hour period and still get 7 hours and 45 minutes of sleep? You cannot get a continuous real time heart rate on your watch face. No just looking at your watch face to get to get a heart rate (unless you are in an exercise). The stopwatch drops ... MoreInfuriating how some simple things just don't work.Apple emphasizes health and sleep is one of the most important components of your health. As Apple is a leader in this field, I cannot understand why these basic flaws were incorporated into the watch.
I got a deal! Not sure why it was discounted but I’m not complaining about that! I love my new watch, everything works, it has great features, checks ekg, oxygen level, body temperature and everything else my old watch had. However, in the description it had a free trial of Fitness, but I did find this offer anywhere, it also said it checks blood pressure, but it doesn’t. I also love the face selection it has and an always on display. Unity bloom face is my favorite, it opens up and changes colors every time you look at the screen. It’s very easy to switch the screens, just open your watch app on the phone and set a different face as current watch face. The battery is great, it lasts all day and night and still has some charge left. If you want your temperature ... MoreI got a deal! Not sure why it was discounted but I’m not complaining about that! I've had my Apple Watch Series 8 for about 8 months. When I bought it the battery charge would last for about 24 hours. Now it barely gets 12. Which means when I go out in the morning, if I don't come back by evening, I'm getting warning messages that the watch will turn off soon due to lack off power. My Apple Care policy says I can send it in for a battery repair--for free. But because my battery still registers at 86%, the rule under my Apple Care is that I can't send it in for repair until the capacity reads 79%. Nice rule for Apple, bad rules for customers. That means I can't go out my house and expect my watch to last for the day. Wouldn't this all be easy if a battery replacement was simple and didn't take \three days to be sent into Apple? Wouldn't it be great if a Genius Bar appointment for 10 minutes meant that an Apple staff member could change the battery? Realize before you buy the watch that the battery will start to go on you in about 8 months.Wouldn't buy this watch again. Their technology is great on the fancy features and not on the basics. Battery life and easy battery replacement is essential to any customer’s needs. Apple hasn't gotten there yet, even though the watch I bought cost about $800!
I liked the beautiful blood red color as it reminded me of my iPhone 13 mini I wish I still had. The setup is fairly easy and straightforward however the OS updates have to include the watch being placed on the charger and the iPhone in a place where WiFi is available which is a huge inconvenience for me who doesn’t have access to WiFi hotspot. I have a multitude of psychiatric disorders and anxiety, insomnia, ADHD, cardiovascular and neurological issues that the blood oxygen sensor helped me avoid a very potentially fatal situation. I am very grateful to Apple for their service and I will continue to be a part of the Apple family as long as they continue their practices which the iPhone was built on. Privacy, security and safety. I do wish Apple would make another mini lineup just for people like me who aren’t able to use the larger screen devices due to small hands and a disorder that prevents me from using any device above a 5.8” device. Apple, if you’re reading this, please reconsider making a mini iPhone, possibly the iPhone mini and mini pro. I would be more than happy to pay the same price as what the iPhone 15 pro costs. I have to rely upon the accessibility features and watches to be able to use the handset and I can’t afford for my diagnosis to get any worse. Just holding the device for an extended period is very painful and results in my quality of life to be diminished.. but the Apple Watch has made it slightly easier though texting on the watch all the time is very slow and difficult. Overall I would recommend this to anyone coming from a series 5 or earlier!
My Apple Watch 8 arrived the day after I ordered it and was bought at a very competitive price. Thanks John Lewis. I was initially concerned the battery wouldn't last the whole day but I manage to make it last for two days by turning off the always on display. The screen is very bright and all the different watch faces are crystal clear, cleverly designed and extremely good to look at. They are also very easy to change if you wish but you will soon find a favourite and probably stick with it. The watch has all the health apps you probably need with the exception of a blood pressure monitor and easily connect to the iPhone health app. iMessages work superbly reading and sending and the buttons are bright and reasonable easy to use. The watch can also make and receive phone calls if your iPhone is in your pocket. Many other apps that are on your iPhone also work on the Apple Watch Series 8 but not all. Overall I am impressed with the watch and don't regret buying it, especially at the competitive price I paid from John Lewis
