Worth every penny. I bought these to replace some plastic junk cutters which either broke or grew legs and walked off. For barely a few dollars more [ or some places if u shop around are equally pirced ] you can have RIDGID. Used PROPERLY these WILL last. I use these solely for small vacuum tubing or rad hose. I also have a DEDICATED set of Ridgid ratcheting cutters for pvc/pex. THERE IS NO DOWNSIDE HAVING GOOD AND BRAND NAMED TOOLS-- especially RIDGID.

It never cut straight and I was sure it was me doing something wrong. After about 3 or 4 cuts of 1/2 PEX the cuts started requiring more and more force which made the blade and handles twist resulting in uneven cuts. This thing made less than 5 cuts of 1/2" PEX and it was garbage.Right back to Home Depot it went. Bought a waterline cutter for half the price which already feels 100 times more solid.

Bought this to cut 1 1/2 diameter PVC since the packaging says it can cut from 3/4" to 1 5/8", with the intent that I could make quick cuts to finish a PVC construction in an afternoon. Working the same cut for 20 minutes in the parking lot and I gave up on this tool. While the cup is indeed wide enough to hold a 1 5/8" pipe, the problem is that the blade does not open wide enough to do so.Potentially the user could score or partially cut through the pipe to make it work, but it did not work as the tool is not stable enough to spin around the pipe and would require stronger clamps to make it happen.Returned the tool since it did not work for the job that I had

I was even able to cut 1-1/2 inch PEX with these without any issues. I just had to be careful and rotates them as I cut. I researched pretty much every tubing cutter on Home Essentials Direct and dozens from other online sources....nothing has better range than this for the price and thay doesn't need to rachet. They little wire loop at the end is annoying to have in your way when you cut. However, couldn't find anything else that had this capacity and a different kind of handle lock. The Southwire cutters were not like thier photo. Thier handle locks just like this rigid does. If you need the range this has you should get this. If you don't you should try the lenox cutter with the lock on side of a handle.
I would not buy this again, especially for the price they charge. For what you are getting they are 2-3 times to much. You can get them to cut 1" pvc, if you are real careful and slowly work them around the pipe to cut through. If you are buying them for a one time job, cutting 3/4" or smaller they will work, but why pay this price, just but a cheaper type. If I could have waited to do the job, I did, I would have sent back, and bought another type, which I still have to do. Because, I need them for more than one job. I will keep this pair, incase, my nest pair break, and hope these will get me thru, until a replacement set arrives.
Use them for lawn irrigation work in texas. These have been my favorite. Buy them for myself so I'm willing to pay the price. If buying for an employee, I'd get frustrated when they got lost so I'd buy cheaper cutters. For me though, love the spring loaded opening handles, and the overall feel. They are heavy duty and hold up well. I buy a couple every year and they last the whole season. Yes they are designed for PVC pipe, pex pipe, hdpe pipe. 1/2", 3/4", 1" sizes, class 200 is best, but they'll cut sch40 with a stronger grip. Anything bigger than 1 inch then you'll want to use something different.
Not sure how this retained almost a 5 star rating so far. Another pvc cutter I have, which costed less than $10, performs the same if not better than this. The plastic handle and lack of rachet functionality makes it a chore to cut pipe. Also, the 1 5/8" measurement isn't accurate. I had to cut a tube that was a little less than that, and it didn't go through all the way. The cut was still off, just like my other one.
I bought this cutter (PC-1250) for a small CPVC project because my ratcheting cutter didn't mention it can be used on CPVC. This cutter did not do well. The instructions simply state "Close handles firmly while rotating handles up and down." It doesn't say you also have to turn them all the way around the pipe, too. So these are more like a manual version of a standard pipecutter, in that you manually have to apply more and more pressure on the handles as you turn them, as opposed to tightening a circular blade every one or two rotations. And it's also not real easy to get a square cut. It took me a couple times before I got it right. I learned you have to score it by rotating it once all the way around the pipe first before applying pressure and rotating it back ... MoreI bought this cutter (PC-1250) for a small CPVC project because my ratcheting cutter didn't mention it can be used on CPVC. And it's also not real easy to get a square cut. It took me a couple times before I got it right. I learned you have to score it by rotating it once all the way around the pipe first before applying pressure and rotating it back and forth ("up and down") and around. It also takes a lot of back and forth and around rotations even on a 3/4" CPVC pipe. I had 3 more cuts and decided it wasn't worth the time and effort to use this cutter again. I was either going to chance trying my ratcheting PVC cutter or use a hacksaw. Luckily the ratcheting cutter worked very good on the CPVC. Out of curiosity I tried this cutter (the PC-1250) on a piece of 3/4" schedule 40 PVC pipe; it was even harder to cut since the pipe wall is thicker. Since this cutter is called a "Plastic Pipe and Tubing Cutter" and it said it would cut "Rubber Hose", before I decided to return it, I tried it on a piece of small diameter vinyl tubing and a piece of 1" diameter rubber tubing: it worked well for those; a lot better than scissors or tin snips. So I kept this cutter anyway. Otherwise I would have returned it.
I'm a plumber and these are my preferred cutters, besides the lack of a proper locking system in happy with these. Milwaukee pex cutters are good too and have a good lock, but the head is a little bulky. These fit better in the slot in my bag. I've also had Lenox ones but they're bulky and the lock slips. It's a pex/poly cutter. You can cut small pvc in a pinch like any other pex cutter, but a ratchet cutter is what you want for pvc.
Works great for PVC and vinyl. I'm very happy that the manufacturer provides the ability to order spare blades to keep it sharp. Almost every cutting tool needs sharpening, blade replacement or total replacement with use.
