This is real bargain. I had a substandard wired video doorbell from Zmodo that just died. This Ring doorbell is a replacement. It installed quickly and using the Ring App for my Android phone, was easy to set up. Now when the doorbell button is pressed, my Echo Dot announces "Someone is at your Front Door". Better than the old chime. There is practically no delay, and the old chime unit does not humm the way it did with the Zmodo doorbell. The motion sensing is somewhat problematic; the motion detection area can be set, but when a big vehicle passes by on the street, it activates motion detection even though no part of the street is inside the motion detection zone. Purchased doorbell camera, two other cameras with lights, and extra batteries. Unfortunately this product constantly has issues. It only worked for the first two weeks and died the morning I went out of town (which was the whole purpose of getting it in the first place). The electrical connection on the doorbell went out a week after installation and I can’t figure out the issue. My doorbell has always worked before ring was installed. The other two cameras I purchased for the driveway are running out of battery at least weekly (good luck going on a trip for more than two weeks). It’s a weekly job to keep the camera batteries going. It’s not that cold and the batteries die in less than two weeks. After spending over $500 in cameras and extra batteries, none of them ... Had the peephole prior to this purchase. Reason had to place with this one is i moved to a place where the home did not have a peephole so i needed this as a replacement. The camera quality is worse and the peephole which i dont get since supposedly they are both 1080P. But i will say the peephole is 3x more the price so maybe something im not aware of is different. The installation was easy and the setup via app thankfully is seamless. Be wary that you have to upgrade your ring subscription if having more than 1 camera. Even if not using the others currently connected. This was a great budget option but next time would spend a few more bucks foe the better version. Untill this one break will continue using it.

The new unit is much smaller, better resolution, and is directly connected to our original doorbell wiring with no battery. Installation was a bit challenging because apparently our 30 year old original door chimes and transformer finally gave out. I called Ring support and they were fantastic. They walked me through replacing the transformer and bypassing the or old chimes. Then they helped me reconnect my existing Ring remote chime to the new device. Only one disappointment was the Ring video subscription. I was going to try and reuse the old Ring device elsewhere, but they were asking for a completely new annual subscription fee. I have both 4G and 5G networks at home and connection is constantly lost even with router placed within 10 feet of my ring.Furthermore, the paid subscription to motion recording is suspect as many of the videos are not captured. Using the Ring app you will also find that connecting to your live feed is usually delayed so long that your guest/porch pirate is long gone before your phone connects to your Ring camera’s live feed.I would not recommend this product to anyone simply because in the event if an issue they will only receive another automated tech response suggesting you go to a community forum for answers.Shame on Ring for this. I rearranged the antennas on my router (which was only 6 feet away inside the house) but that made the difference. The signal strength needs to be about -60 or better (higher) to have a stable connection. Mine is now -42 so I'm good. The concern I have is that I don't think the battery is really charging from the very low-powered doorbell transformer. Ring manuals say in one place that it will keep the battery charged. In other locations, they say it's just a trickle charge and you will still have to charge it occasionally. And to charge it means turning off the breakers, uninstalling it completely, charging it and then rewiring it all over again because the 2020 model does not have a removable battery! It also took a lot of Googling and testing to get it to link to my Echo Show 5 automatically - you have to connect Alexa devices to the Ring doorbell through the Amazon Alexa app and IF you have the most current version of the app, you can go into the doorbell and tell it to notify your Alexa devices when the doorbell rings - the video then displays automatically on the Echo Show - IF you link the Ring account to Alexa, IF you have the right version of the app and IF you turn on the Announcement Device options in the Ring camera through the Alexa app. I also tried connecting to Google devices - and through a website you can link Ring and Google accounts so you can say "OK, Google...talk to Ring" and you can see your battery status and turn motion detection on and off, start recording and stop - but that's it. No video stream on Chromecast or Google Smart Displays. They could make it work...but Amazon and Google would have to stop being babies and work this out between them. I'm tired... This one seems to be a dud...it works, but man is it a lot of effort to get there!

This works perfect - it actually has come in handy for other reasons too. I have a naughty neighbor who lets her dog run loose in the neighborhood. Literally just after I installed this Ring, I unexpectedly caught her dog on my Ring camera. That was all the proof that Animal Control needed in order to fine her. Anyway, so yea it works great - day or night. The only con I can think of is that because it's not the latest/greatest Ring model it doesn't properly hook up to your existing house doorbell. I mean you can hook it up... but you won't hear anything from your existing house doorbell. You'll need to buy a Ring chime if you want sound in your house.... otherwise you'll just have to accept receiving notifications via the Ring app on your phone.
