I've been through a couple of these now, the part where the wire connects to the main clip is a small weld that doens't hold very well under stress. The first one broke in my camera bag when it got stuffed into a car, the second one broke off when talent tried to adjust how the microphone was mounted. You are kinda stuck though, since these are the only clips that fit Rode Lav's (that I've found). When they aren't broken they work just fine.

I have four Rode Lavalier mics and like to keep spare cables and clips in case one gets damaged or lost in the chaos of a shoot. These are exactly the same as the clip that comes with the mics. They work well enough, and the little cable clip that lets you form a strain relief loop is convenient. I think the wire loop is too long and holds the microphone too far away from the body of the clip. This makes it a little harder to position and less discreet on camera than it could have been if the whole assembly were flatter. The Rode lavs have a few tiny parts (the cable connectors, clips and windscreens) that feel like they could be damaged by taking them on and off repeatedly, so as much as possible, I leave the mics assembled between shoots, and modified the foam in ... I received my clips... but there's no mount for the lav mic? How does this even happen?!I bought these because the mount broke off (Rode really needs to fix that, the way they attach it to the clip is awful and breaks so easily) but now these don't even have a clip?! It doesn't look like they broke off either it looks like they were never put on...

I've been using these clips as intended with Rode Lavaliers, and I ordered these replacements because I broke one of the originals. If you're careful, they are fairly durable, but the wire that extends to hold the microphone is extremely stiff and will snap off before it bends at all. To remove the microphone you must first remove the foam wind screen, DON'T try to remove it any other way. I find these clips bulky and often obtrusive in my shots. I'd love a lower profile design. Also the small 'wire holder' feature is too small, and you risk damaging the expensive MICON cable when inserting or removing it.
The wire that secures the lavalier should be attached to the clip in a better fashion. Maybe like Sennheiser does it. Please fix this RODE.
This is a lapel clip for the Rode SmartLAV microphone. When it is not broken, it does the job, but the spring/wire that holds the actual microphone body is easily broken off the tie-clip. (There just isn't a lot of surface area to weld the spring to the tie-clip.) However; it is the only tie-clip design that will fit the SmartLAV's 3/16 barrel . If you need it, it is a necessary evil. It is good they come in packs of 3 - you won't be stranded on a shoot when it breaks. Rode does now make a number of SmartLAV clipping devices. Check B&H to see if any others suit your needs better than the tie clip design. Even though they are rather delicate, I would still recommend it to a friend as it is better than nothing.
I broke my original trying to 'tighten it up'. Probably did not need to be tighten in the first place now that I look at it.I gave it 3 stars because at $10 each, they are not fun to replace. However, I should give it 4 stars because mine came with 4 replacements! lol
Seems silly to review a mic clip, right? They hold a LAV mic in place and that's it. But it's worth noting I had to buy extra clips because the Rode LAV-CLIP can break pretty easily. I had an over zealous talent grab for it before I could and the wire that holds the mic broke off the clip, rendering it unrepairable. They come in a set of three, but I didn't see a white option, (which one of my Rode LAV mics is). Wish they had a mixed-color option. Pays to have backups for this item.
These clips work very well with the Rode SmartLav+. The integrated cable management clip allows a nice neat look, however is very tight, and if you have to remove clip I always worry about damaging the wire. The biggest issue with these is their durability. The clip itself seems very heavy duty, however the metal wire loop that actually holds the microphone makes very little contact with the rest of the clip and has a very weak weld. It breaks very easily.I would be OK with the cost of these if I could expect them to last. But apparently there is valid reason they are sold in packs of three. And since I havent been able to find any 3rd party clips in the right size it seems Rode has us over a barrel.
poor design and very weak point when attaching. have broken a few of these and one arrived already broken. would expect better from Rode. redesign please!
