I ought this because Id been told that it had a smooth sound. I was not mistaken: the quality of sound is very good. I previously suffered from severe sibilance with both an AT2020USB and a Rode NT3. They were both excellent mics but didnt suit my voice or room acoustics. Like many, my booth is a collection of duvets and blankets draped on a temporary frame around my desk. The mic is clipped to a shelf over my monitor and I have absorption tiles behind it. Having the mic offset introduced some boxiness from the wall but moving it to the centre made it sound much cleaner. Such a tiny thing making such a big difference made me realise how important room acoustics and mic placement are. Overall: The Rode NTK is my go to mic for many situations. It works very well on most vocals, although, I often use other mics on singers, depending on which compliments their voice best. I have had great success using this mic for stereo field recordings of choirs and chamber music. Even though it is not traditional to use a large capsule condenser for this application, the mic's low self noise, natural sound and sensitivity are ideally suited for this application. If you don't have time to audition a bunch of mics for any given application, the NT2a works every time. I've used it very successfully on toms, kick drum, drum overheads, guitar cabinets, acoustic guitars, horns, hand percussion, etc. etc. I own four of them and plan to buy more. As far as comparisons to the Neumann U87, more often than not, I prefer the sound of the NT2A, which is more natural. I will say however that there are times when the U87 can't be beat for adding a "larger than life" element to certain voices. The NT2A is a great mic and a great value.

The condenser mic offers 3 settings for Omni, Cardiod, and figure 8 settings. These microphones are clear, and detailed and are perfect for brass. Having read the pros and cons of condenser mics vs ribbon, and am glad I went with these for the variety of recording that I am doing. Ribbons are expensive, delicate, and very accurate and warm for brass recording. Condensers are clear, flat, and highly detailed and sound great to me. This mic is a beast! Great for vocals, any type of vocals! Just throw some words at it and you'll notice that the sound it's true to the source. The body is robust and beatifully contructed and the shock mount is trusty with a secure fit. The cable and pop filter are really a bonus not to be neglected and always worthy with fair quality. The diversity of patterns really works in many situations. Vocals and instruments, acoustic or electric, you name it! The sound is transparent and true thanks to it's dynamic range with pro levels seen only in bigger boys on the market. Maybe a little thin on the low end but that can be good in some situations. Couple it with a good tube pre and you'll see what I mean! I've used it in many situations and configurations and wouldn't ... MoreThis mic is a beast! Great for vocals, any type of vocals! With this quality in performance and construction, the results are obvious. I wanted to know if all the fuss on the internet about this mic was true and everyone was right on the spot. If I had to give an advice on a low mid budget mic I'd say "don't search further - this is the one"!

My favorite mic

This is an amazing mic. Exactly as described. It is crystal clear when I record and depending on the setting, it picks up different sound, again, as described. Amateur recording artist here and having a lot of fun. If you can afford it, get this one. It’s amazing!

I've been using this microphone to record spoken-word for several weeks now and I couldn't be happier with it! I've paired it with an SSL 2 and together they give me outstandingly clean and clear sound. I'm also grateful for the high-pass filter switches because I'm often right up against the included pop-filter for subtle sounds and would otherwise be fighting the proximity effect. The XLR cable included is generously long -- to a fault if you're using it at a desk -- and I was glad to have a more appropriate cable on hand. The microphone itself apparently weights 860g (almost 2lbs); I'm using it with the Rode PSA1 boom arm which can handle the weight but I bet cheaper arms would struggle with it. I would caution you, however, that this microphone does need phantom ... MoreI've been using this microphone to record spoken-word for several weeks now and I couldn't be happier with it! I would caution you, however, that this microphone does need phantom power and while this isn't a problem in the studio it does mean you might have difficulty using it on location because there is no built-in battery-power option (my Rode NTG-2 also needs phantom power but has a battery-power option for when you're in the field). All said, this is the perfect microphone for me: it's a step up but still economical and I am more than happy with the quality.

Versatile & Modern Workhorse

The Rode NT-2a is the most versatile sub-$500 USD microphone Ive worked with thanks to its multiple pick-up patterns (with the proximity effect differences that go along with them), low self-noise, good sensitivity and lots of body and crisp detail - all without the honkiness that drives me nuts in so many other mics in its price class. Ive been using them for over a decade for everything from recording audio books to lead and background vocals to instruments, sometimes along 4 and 5 figure Neumann and Telefunken mics. The NT-2a doesnt flatter the voice or bring-out delicacy the way that many vintage mics do, but it brings a solidness and presence that help it to either fill-in the soundstage or cut through a mix easily. To my ear, it has a more pleasant tonality on voice than the NT-1a or NT-1, with a more robust body in cardioid mode than either of them. In other words, if youre choosing between the 3 and price isnt an issue, I would choose the NT-2a. If all youre looking for is a cardioid mic, you can find more flattering options based on vintage designs that will tame sibilance more or bring out the delicacy of a performance - and save money doing it - but they are different as opposed to better.

Very Good all around work horse microphone
18 February 2023

The NT2a has a relatively neutral sound signature. Add to that the very low self noise, makes it ideal for capturing instruments or group performances from a distance. It makes a decent vocal microphone, but I believe its strong point is more with acoustic instruments (personally). I liked the one so much I bought a second one to make a stereo pair. The second mic was so close in output and tonality, you would think it a Factory Matched pair.

Very good quality microphone.

I have two of these microphones for stereo recording . I run them into a focusrite isa preamp and they sound very impressive. These microphones have a multi polar patterns which gives you a lot of flexibility in the recording process. They have a have a large full bodied sound that sounds expensive. These microphones run on phantom power from your mic preamp or mixing desk. They work well in the studio as a good flexible microphone for vocal and instrumental work and work well as a stereo pair.

I bought this microphone (kit) as I wanted a replacement for my aging PC USB mic (good enough but somewhat aged). I have had many microphones over the years but they have been very much on the budget end of the market. So I thought I'd treat myself to this. I set this microphone up via the ALESIS MULTIMIX 4-Channel Mixer I also got from SCAN. This microphone is feature rich, easy to setup and very, very good quality. Within thirty minute of starting, I had this microphone (with the mixer) setup and was recording test audio on my PC. Though it may seem a little daunting at first, the set up of this mic is a doddle. My intended use for the microphone is video voice over but I'm sure other uses (as described in sales literature and on RODE website) will get amazing ... MoreI bought this microphone (kit) as I wanted a replacement for my aging PC USB mic (good enough but somewhat aged). Though it may seem a little daunting at first, the set up of this mic is a doddle. My intended use for the microphone is video voice over but I'm sure other uses (as described in sales literature and on RODE website) will get amazing results. I kind of do not like the sound of my own voice recorded so I did two things to test this mic. First I played my voice recorded back to a friend I can trust to tell me if I get things wrong. The friend was impressed with what he heard. I then recorded the friend singing a simple song. OK! So, my friend is no pop star! The recording was excellent though - very faithful to what was being recorded with no 'noise' or background 'interference'. The onboard 'switches' for user control of this mic can be used to improve recording or set the mic up for different types of recording. Another test I did was play (badly) some ukulele and do a brief recording. The result was great. As I risk writing a wall of text, I'll finish up with this recomendation - if you are looking for a very good quality microphone at a good price - GET THIS MICROPHONE! Note: the Small Studio Mic Desk Stand by Citronic I'm using at this time is adequate for my needs!
