Rode NTG4+ Shotgun Microphone

I upgraded from the Rode Videomic Pro+ to the NTG4+ (Paired with the Zoom H5) and it was the best decision I’ve made for studio audio solutions. There is a significant audio crispness when upgrading to boom mics. American Musical Supply delivered my order on time as well, so there were no hiccups with the ordering process. If i could give more than 5 stars for the product I would!

A Perfect Purchase

The Rode NTG4+ is the perfect shotgun microphone for recording high-quality interviews. It has a nicely balanced sound quality with both warm and crisp tonality. Definitely a step above the NTG2 in quality. Its ability to provide self-power through its internal rechargeable battery or phantom power makes this mic a real workhorse in my audio arsenal. Make sure to purchase a Rode lyre shock mount that ensures vibration-free use on boom poles and mic stands.

Excellent audio quality!

I used this mic for the first time last week and was very impressed with the audio quality and build. The on/off, -10db, high pass and boost buttons are easy to get to, and the blue LED indicator lights are easy to see. When I plugged the mic into my Zoom H5 the power light turned from blue to green, which indicated it was receiving phantom power. This is a great feature, allowing me to easily identify the setting. Since the mic has its own power I turned off the phantom power on the H5. For what you get, it's well worth the money. I'm using it with the Rode blimp and K-tek KE 79CCR boom pole.

Fantastic Mic for the price

I rented this out from lens rental to test it out and see how well it performed. Surprisingly this lil' guy delivered spot on crisp dialogue. The simple interface of choosing lo-pass or hi-pass filtering was extremely easy to do on the fly when certain unwanted sounds or drones would occur.The -10 db switching is an option as well but I didn't need to use it since this project was an interview setting and not really needed for any explosions or screaming effects. I hooked it up via the Zoom H6 and using my Sennheiser Pro 280 headphones, the project went smoothly without any hiccups or issues. Also knowing that a fully charged NTG4+ via lithium ion meant ease of mind when operating and not worrying about whether I had batteries to replace in case. Good build quality

I am impressed with the quality of this mic. It sounds great and has what seems like a nicely secure xlr connection. I think it's great that it holds such a long charge. No more 9volts! Also noticed a lot more dynamic range in this mic vs the entry level Rode mics.

Great Audio/poor Battery

I bought this for some training videos for my company, and was super excited about it after all the reviews I read. It is definitely top notch audio, but the rechargeable battery in the NGT4 doesn't work. It will only turn on through phantom power, which is disappointing because i bought it for that. I had already filled out the warranty card so I couldn't return to B&H. Rode wasn't much help either. I can submit for warranty but I really need this for production. Overall great products, just make sure the battery works before setting up the warranty info.

Happy with the mic

I am not an audiophile, but as a videophile I work with audio all the time. I'd say my discerning ear is middle of the road. With that disclaimer... I have worked with the ME66, MKE600 and AT4037a shotguns extensively in the past. I picked up the NTG4+ after much debate and without much info on the web. As such, was nervous to buy this blind but I have been very pleased with the NTG4+, the sound quality sounds cleaner and just flat out better (to my ears at least) than the mics I mentioned above. I have been running it with Low pass & high boost enabled in a zeppelin and dead cat exclusively for my tests but this is fitting my needs very well. And yes, I have had a backup mic available. Seeing as how it can charge to 80% in just over an hour off a little USB battery pack or any USB charging port, this works a lot better for me personally than AA or AAA batteries. All in all, definitely happy with the purchase. No complaints and to my ears, the sound quality is very good - better than anything I've had in the past, and I find it highly unlikely that anyone other than the most intensely critical audiophiles would ever complain about the sound quality.

I would buy this product again from Rode and B&H

Overall very satisfied with purchase. The NTG4+ was an upgrade from the NTG2 model. We operate a small video production company and it will be used for boom operation on interviews and sound on location shoots. To date the NTG4+ has met all expectations from the Rode product. The only bump in the road on this order was the first mic sent from B & H was defective. After contacting Rode, and yes, actually talking with a Rode technician to troubleshoot the mic, it was determined that it was defective. B & H was contacted, a return was authorized almost immediately and within a week I had a replacement mic. Thank you B&H as well as Rode for your professional and prompt assistance and service.

Rode NTG4+ a great deal

I am a videographer who was brought up through television news and moved into production a few years ago. I like the Rode NTG4+ for my work. I use wireless lav mics for interviews and most conference coverage but need to have a quality shotgun for ambient room sound back up, especially when Q&A takes place at conferences. So far this mic has been doing a fine job but I did notice that any touch of the mic and even some camera movements will be reflected in a loud bass noise. The mic came with the wrong size camera mount and no pouch which was to be included. Strange since it had a seal so I don't think it was a return. Sturdy build. Proper sound.

The pristine build quality and attention to detail must be mentioned for this mic. 'the feel' in your hand is reassuring. On the sound front the high tones if anything are slightly rolled off but with a high boost function get extremely sharp. I've found that keeping the high boost off is preferable with interviews. The built in lithium ion battery is fantastic as you only have to carry around a USB cable which you already have with you and can charge from your laptop/iphone charger etc... Tops remarks for this Australian microphone.
