They were plugged into 2 different RED cameras. One system was rented and one we purchased so it's important to note that both systems were problematic. Found out through online research having the PAD button on the receivers turned on causes the interference. When we shut it off it went away. Also, found that the RODE Central app would not recognize all of the audio files and allow us to export them off the receivers. RODE needs to fix the RODE central app to solve this last problem.

Ordered this 2 transmitter 1 receiver set and 2 lavalier mics. The receiving unit would not turn on. Rode tech support told me install their app (Warning, if on a Mac you need OS 10.15 or above and without this app you are out of luck) After installing new firmware on the the transmitters and receiver I was able to get the system to work on my GoPro 11 briefly but then the receiver would not turn off. I tried restoring to factory and reinstalling the firmware then the receiver went off and will not come on. I have spent 3 hours trying to get this system to work and I am back at square one with a non functioning receiving unit. I trusted Rode as I have used their professional mics in the past. If you are looking to combine two persons speaking into a single signal that you can input into a DSLR or mirrorless camera this will work for you. If you want to deal with recordings in post, again, this will do the trick. But this product fails in three critical ways. 1) You cannot separately control the volume of each transmitter. This means that you need to have an extra device connected to the receiver to separate the left and right channel, then adjust the volume of each signal. The Rode system saves audio to UGG files. The Rode Central app converts those files to MP3 or WAV files. This is horrible for run-and-gun content creators. The ability to connect the system to any computer, phone, or tablet and extract your audio files is essential for collaboration and when you need to quickly download and edit your content. 3) There is no 3.5mm monitoring. If you are using the 3.5mm jack on a camera that doesn't have an audio monitoring output, you are essentially recording without a proper check. If you have the luxury of recording multiple times, no problem. But for documentary work, wedding work, or event work - you will find this limiting at best. You may in post, you've missed the mark completely. I think this is good for a hobbyist, especially if you find it used. But for professionals, unless there is a critical firmware update, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

I've used these on several week-long docu-style content productions, and I'll jump straight into my takeaways. My BIGGEST recommended consideration relates to the first item on the cons list. Pros - Simplicity is the biggest pro for me. Overall very easy to use and relatively fail-safe (backup recording on the transmitter, auto-gain always enabled) - Recording options are great (backup recording versus stereo recording of two transmitters) - Transmitters are easily paired with different receiver units (in case you want to change between two 1:1 TX/RX setups and a 2:1 TX/RX setup). - Clips on units double as cold shoe mounts. - Customer service was great through the single time I had to send a TX/RX pair in for repair. Cons - The biggest con is something I learned on my last shoot - if the receiver is touching an on-board mic XLR cable (used for scratch audio), severe interference is introduced into the shotgun mic. My RX was clipped to the top of the camera, which was also where the XLR cable began its run from the mic to the camera. This rendered all affected audio useless. - Not the best option for precision control - I think this is geared toward solo shooters for whom audio is just one of the hats being worn - I had an issue with one of my sets (I've got two) where the transmitter would not power on or connect to the app. I sent it into customer service, and this was resolved. - You need a special cable that does not come with this device to connect to a mobile phone and therefore the app for on-site control - Relating to the above, due to the lack of buttons, it's difficult to make changes to these (record settings, gain levels, etc.) - To my knowledge, you cannot buy a new transmitter w/o receiver - so make sure you won't want to later upgrade if purchasing a single TX/RX (which is what I did).
We used these for a live event for speakers about 75 feet away. I made the mistake of using these for a live event. BIG MISTAKE. I could not switch these out while the speakers were delivering the message. I could not shoot a Take 2. The first segment audio was intermittent because the signal cut in and cut out. it compromised the production. I found out in live time in front of a high paying client that these rode wireless go II's while convenient do not have a strong enough signal to carry across a room of people with 75 feet between the receiver and transmitter. I strongly recommend using higher end lavaliere microphones or professional level handheld wireless microphones. I'm leaving this review to follow up on, but I ordered the Rode Wireless GO II Wireless Microphone System to use for an event that I needed it for. I received it in good time, but never could get it to work. Instructions were all pictures and really not much at all for print. You have to go on the web and find it yourself. Then, after working on it for several hours, updating the firmware, and messing with it trying to get it to work, I gave up. Had to wait until Monday to call. Now that I was able to speak with someone they tell me that you have to have their SC15/SC19 cable for it to work on an IOS device. It supposedly has some special chip in it so that it works with the IOS device. It doesn't matter whether it is an MFI-Certified cable, it has to be there ... It supposedly has some special chip in it so that it works with the IOS device. It doesn't matter whether it is an MFI-Certified cable, it has to be there cable. Nothing anywhere tells you that it has to be their cable, and I had an MFI-Certified cable that went from USB-C to Lightning cable that was a working cable. It just wouldn't work with the Rode system. As you well know I didn't get to use the system for the event because they failed to tell you anywhere that you have to have their cable. I was tempted to send it back because of their lack of common sense in including needed information in the instructions but I am keeping it and ordering the cable which is not cheap ($25) for the shorter, or ($29) for the 5'. I will try and follow up with how the system works once I get the cable. So, if you are going to buy this, order the SC15/SC19 to go into your IOS device, or whatever the other one is that goes into the Android. BTW, as of this review 4/25/22, BEST BUY doesn't even sale the cable needed to go with this device. Go figure!
I've titled this review as I have because I have only used this system once so far, but it seemed to have worked exceptionally well. The sound quality was very acceptable, even in a noisy space. And the display on the receiver makes it easy to see the signals coming through from each transmitter. However, I did manage to mute one of the transmitters unintentionally--and the screen on the receive is so small that I didn't notice the mute symbol over the mic icon on the channel. So I had, momentarily, thought that one of the receivers was defective. But it wasn't--it was only muted. So take note of that, it could happen to you too! Other than that one small kerfuffle, everything else went off without a hitch and the sound quality is way better than my previous setup. ... I'm gonna start with the bad points as we all know these do a great job at recording clear sound and work flawlessly on their own. The trouble comes with connecting them to a device, for some reason its hit and miss with my recordings whether or not they will show up on the video of the camera theyre plugged into. You have no way of knowing if theyre recording to a device, a little camera icon would have been helpful or something just to let you know its recording to a device and not the onboard memory. This leaves you with the mild stress of not knowing if youre gonna have to spend ages trying to sync up the sounds, or if it did its job and recorded the sounds to the device. This leaves you with the mild stress of not knowing if youre gonna have to spend ages trying to sync up the sounds, or if it did its job and recorded the sounds to the device. One such device that is very problematic is the insta360 one r. The sound quality on the one r is good mostly but it always gets bump sounds and knock sounds even though the camera isnt moving. (I think thats the wind reduction option?) So naturally you want to use a better mic for your 360 camera shots but you never know if its recording to the one r or not. The other problem is the very low sound level at which everything is recorded. Gotta have my speakers and pc sound up at 100% to just hear what the recording is doing. Gotta edit each sound file in an editor to bring the levels up. Dunno whythey have the lower db levels to choose from, if anything it needs a boost function. One small complaint is I wish you could remove the shirt clip things so you could attach some velcro or 3m tape to the back for mounting. But thats my personal problem and wont effect many people who just use it for vlogging or any situation where its just gonna be attached to your clothes or bags. Other than those two things, theyre very light, easy to connect to your clothing, you can do action sports with them and have no sound issues, my action cameras get knocking, clicking and wind sounds, none of that with these mics. You can run around with one strapped to your shirt and not even get any sounds of it flopping around with your shirt or knocking against your chest. The sound quality really is the clearest I have had on a mic (I havent owned many so that probably means nothing coming from me haha) I wear one on my wrist and the other on my shirt collar, just under my chin. Works perfectly and I dont notice any difference in the way it picks up my voice from wrist level to being just under my chin - both are just as clear and the voice under the chin isnt even any louder than the voice on the wrist. Which means you can mount it to a wrist band if you dont want the mic to show in yourvideo for whatever reason, it doesnt need to be in close proximity to your mouth. The range at which the mic picks up voices at an acceptable loudness before they start to sound like a background person is about 1m then you will notice the voice get farer away sounding. This was impossible to find info about online so I hope this is useful to someone. The largest distance I have seen it pick up a voice is around 6m, but that sounds very far away, like someone talking to you from a distance and you cant quite make out what theyre saying. Lasts all day pretty much, I can go out to a game day and know that I dont have to stop recordings or charge the devices cos they last the entirety of the event filled portion of the day for me.
This small, robust and versatile microphone is worth its weight in gold. It might seem as an expensive system at first compared to other wireless alternatives but the built-in advantages in the Rode Wireless GO II will quickly pay for itself. Some of the features include: Split-audio, backup recording, markers, MP3/WAV export, local/remove mute and powers saving mode. The microphones can also be used as stand-alone units, or connected directly to lav-microphones. Thanks to the option of recording a backup track (with a -20dB track) simultaneously with your normal (can be adjusted from -30dB to 0dB) recording, the risk of you missing out on important sound is next to none. During a recent shoot we did, were interviewing two subjects, we had the microphones set to -6dB and the talking heads interview sounded great! However, after the interviews finished, the subjects performed a musical number with guitars and song, using amplifiers and loudspeakers; and by mistake I forgot to set a lower dB recording level on the microphones, so the entire recording sounded distorted and awful - had it not been for the automatic -20dB backup track directly from the microphones themselves we would've had no sound at all; but thankfully the microphones backup system worked as intended and we were able to restore the backup sound recording in post, and publish the shoot with amazing sound! The only drawback with these microphones is that they NEED Rode's own USB-C cables to properly sync up with the Rode App - the cables are fortunately included, but worth knowing. A charging case for the 3 devices (2TX + 1RX) would have been nice, but they charge quite quickly when connected to a power source.
Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of the Rode Wireless GO II 2-Person Microphone system. I purchased this as it was a very inexpensive device which I had hoped to be able to connect to my Canon 4k camcorder for recorded interviews with direct microphones for the two people in each interview. I've been using a Sennheiser shotgun mic with the camcorder for a couple of years now, and it's been great. I was hoping using these devices would give me better quality when I just want audio from a couple of people instead of an entire room. These devices are quite small, and I had ordered the charging dock/case for these as well. I like the tiny size, however there's absolutely no mounting options. The documentation shows that you can use the receiver's clip to slide into the top of a camera, but if you already have a separate mic or light there, you're stuck with having to tuck it or let it dangle. It would have been nice to have another sort of audio connection as well to the receiver instead of just a 3.5mm jack/cable. This is detailed in the product description, but it was an annoyance after things didn't work as expected. The mics include 3 levels of gain which can be adjusted by pressing a single button on each device to cycle through the options. The lowest db option was the best quality-wise, but I was surprised by how much extraneous noise these mics pick up. Without any other options to adjust the audio quality or change the pickup range to something much more localized to an individual, I don't see a use for these. I should have went with my gut and spent the money for a wireless Sennheiser or Shure wireless lavalier system.
