The motor is pretty gutless, it will stall easily if you aren't super gentle. The disc is glued on, so changing grits to suit the task is not really an option and it's pretty small of course, remembering that you can only use 1/2 of it and anywhere near the middle is ineffective. The biggest screw up is it has a quick release lever for the belt *but* you will still need a screwdriver to change the belt, so again changing grits to suit the task is not something you're able to do easily. Better to get a real belt disc sander, but sadly Bunnings don't sell any.

It's not original, but another factory deal with bright colours and stickers, but i do really like the little thing nonetheless. Would help if they included gear belt sizes in the manual, as mine snapped. That said, Ryobi eventually replied with useful details.Could use a bit more torque on top, but hey, just another factory deal right, not enough time to make an original product.

My old belt sander (bought in 1998) finally died and I needed a new one for some work I was doing at home. I looked online and most I saw were very expensive. I found this one at Bunnings for a price that I thought was more than reasonable. Went and bought it, put it together when I got home (very easy to do, the instructions are easy to read and the pictures are very helpful) and was using it less than 20 minutes later. It works extremely well and I like the fact that the belt can be set vertical as well. Very handy when you are rounding off the end of a "larger" piece of timber that would be able to be done with the disc.

Good little bench sander
14 May 2019

I have had this for about 3 months now, it is a pretty good tool for weekend wood worker like me. The dust collection port I think is an odd size but I found a converter in the plumbing section (see photo). I have also added a second fine dust collector up the top, yet to test this but appears to pull in more dust.On Bunnings website you can search for the backing pad hook and loop, for some reason my Bunnings doesn't stock it but I found one elsewhere (see second picture) . I have just installed the new backing pad. I would suggest not sticking the one on that came with machine and buying the converter kit straight away. I have also purchased a new belt at Bunnings but doesn't need changing yet but nice to have on hand.Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Good little machine

Have purchased a few of these over the years and can't complain about its performance. We give it a hammering in our workshop and for its size and price its quite good.Yes it's probably better suited to DIY use but we get 2 or 3 years out of them in tough conditions with a couple of cog belt replacements along the way.Would have a professional one if we had the room but this fits purpose.Using a suitable grit belt for the job will help and clean it out regularly if its working hard.

Great for crafts, but not for heavier duty type of works

Unit runs quietly, with no vibration when placed on a bench. Start/Stop controls are well placed for a right handed person, and accessible. Works well with light materials, acrylics, polycarbonates, aluminum sheet, and soft woods. The Disc grinder table could be placed closer to the disc (8mm gap), and the square could be wider to allow small items to be machined against the disc. The unit could do with more torque, to allow one to machine harder/larger items. I'm satisfied for what I need it for.

Great hobby machine but needs improvements
6 December 2020

I’ve had this machine for about 7 months and am generally happy with it, apart from a few annoying faults. Everyone changes the sanding disk for hook and loop as bunnings don’t stock replacements and it’s such a hassle to replace them. The belt part keeps sliding across, no matter how often I adjust it. Every single belt has torn at the seam before wearing out (including the more expensive hafco ones which ripped in a short time). Yes I do check and read-check that the arrows are going the right way. The rest isn’t very stable but that doesn’t bother me. I use this machine a lot and still recommend it, despite the annoyances.

Overall a good machine that does what it is supposed to do.

Happy with it's proformance. Only two grips. First one is that to raise the belt deck you have to use an allen key (provided) but there is nowhere to store it on the machine. A thumb screw would have been better. The second gripe is the belt deck slopes slightly to one side. Not a big problem as the deck itself is flat so it does not affect your job, but it still bugs me.

Poor Construction

I have 8 Ryobi power tools so I’m not Anti Ryobi. I bought this Sander to do some work at home, I’m not a professional and only use my power tool sporadically, and that’s why Ryobi suited me. They’re not the cheapest and are usually reasonable quality, but this Sander has changed my opinion of their products. The first Sander I bought had to be returned because it was making a ‘clunking’ sound when operating, no worries sometimes faulty machines slip through and I accept that. But when the replacement Sander started making a ‘Metallic Rubbing Noise’ I was really angry. I was not going to travel another 50kms to exchange another one, and maybe end up with the same problem. I pulled it apart and found that the ‘idler wheel’ has side play in it, and it was rubbing ... MoreI have 8 Ryobi power tools so I’m not Anti Ryobi. I pulled it apart and found that the ‘idler wheel’ has side play in it, and it was rubbing against the wheel bracket! All it needed was a correctly sized ‘spacer’ to reduce the side movement, so why couldn’t RYOBI do this at the factory! Very disappointed in Ryobi!

Works great

I read every one of the many reviews on this and checked out every YouTube review as well. Despite the fact that I’ve never had any issues with my other Ryobi tools it was with great fear and trepidation based on the negative reviews that I took theplunge and bought it. I thought, if it’s no good or stalls like some reviewers said it did I could always return it for a refund. No way, it’s a keeper. The first thing I did was to convert the disc to hook & loop using the Diablo 10 pack of sanding discs, also bought at Bunnings, that includes a hook & loop converter which I stuck on the aluminium faceplate using double sided tape. These discs are supposed to last 10x longer than standard discs anyway so should be good value in the long run. anyway love it and looking ... MoreI read every one of the many reviews on this and checked out every YouTube review as well.
