I was skeptical about buying an electric lawn mower. I have a Buffalo lawn and have used petrol lawn mowers for years. I bought this mower, assembled it (easy), charged the battery and was blown away with the way it cut through my lawn. I have hung it from my garage wall to save space. Something not possible with a 4 stroke petrol machine. My old machine started easily but this takes no effort at all. Press a button with one hand, pull on a lever with the other and off you go. when you go into thick lawn you here the power increase and the machine cuts through it with ease.As far as longevity is concerned, I can't comment but it it lasts 3 or 4 years I'll be more than happy. Firstly, thank you to all of the reviewers. Your reviews were very helpful. Petrol mower died last weekend and thick Buffalo was getting scary. Just did first mow. It did a better job than the 4 stroke. Old fashioned corner block, and just did one of the front lawns. That only used 1/2 the battery on height 5. Only had to empty catcher once as it cuts so fine. I'll have to get used to not using a powerful 4 stroke, but it was wonderful coming inside not filthy dirty and stinking of petrol. I turn 65 next month and it was wonderful to be able to lift this mower on my own, and so light to use, and starts with a button! Looking forward to more use.

Bought this a week ago and just took it on its first run. First impressions are that it is an excellent machine. Not a lot of thick stuff at present, but the few thicker bits showed me the machine DOES increase power automatically to handle it. Originally thought the catcher was way too small, but don't underestimate it. It does hold a surprising amount. The unit was nearly ready straight from the box, needing only the handle to be connected and the catcher to be put together, both easy jobs. I have only two observations to make. Firstly, there is no way I would leave the battery charging if I have to leave the house for any reason as the plug gets VERY (as in unnervingly) warm. Also, trying to register the unit online with Ryobi, I found the serial numbers for the ... MoreBought this a week ago and just took it on its first run. Apart from those two observations, I am very happy with the purchase and I DO recommend it to anyone else. So quiet, you could cut the grass as 5 in the morning and no one would even realise.

I bought this to replace a Bosch corded electric lawn mower for my TifTuf Couch lawn, which is very dense. The Bosch can scalp the lawn, which is what I thought I needed in this new mower, because that's how most people control couch weeds. This mower does NOT scalp couch, it sourt of trims it at the lowest setting, but if you want to see yellow hgrass you need to go over it repeatedly, and it gradually gets down into the grass. It is so light that it bounces along on top of thick couch. HOWEVER, I did not return it, because there is another approach to couch that is easier and works just as well, which is to trim it then use hand weeding with a hand weeder to remove the weeds, and use Bin-Die to kill more persist weeds like oxalis, spurge and clover. The nett outcome is the same but you don't have to keep scalping the lawn, so it looks thick and fluffy all the time. The machine itself is well made and grass emptying is a breeze. I got the lawn done in less than half the time it took with the corded Bosch. It's a keeper.
I do love this mower and it would be perfect for a standard lawn (e.g. front and back of a 400m block). However, it doesn't have the grunt to get through dense grass, especially if it is even slightly damp. So you need to be diligent about regular mowing and not letting the lawn get too high. It shuts down when the going gets tough, and I regularly need to go back over the same spot, lowering the blades over the dense patches to "helicopter" down to my cutting level. The battery lasts long enough to cover a 1000m block, but only if there is no resistance from the grass. My only other comment is that it doesn't always have enough lift to properly suck the cuttings into the catcher, which often gets blocked at the intake. Again, this is more a function of my dense ... Had this for a couple of months now, and I have been extremely pleased with its performance. Easy to build. Easy to start, and it cuts well, although struggles with longer or dense grass. No chords to have to deal with (like my last electric mower...). Overall great for the price range. My only problem is with the battery life. On a good day I can get 30 minutes out of it, but often I only get around 20-25 mins. Which is just enough to do my back yard if it's not too long, but otherwise means having to do one lawn in 2 lots, charging in the meantime. Would strongly recommend purchasing a second battery.
This product was purchased on Boxing Day, 2022, after my petrol mower decided to stop working. After seeing the positive product reviews by the community here, decided to purchase this model.1. First UnboxingBefore I unboxed all the items, I decided to take a photo of the opened box. Shortly thereafter, it was noticed that as I was attempting to adjust the handle, a handle locking screw (quick-release fasteners) was missing. A check of the photo that was taken before unboxing was made and the photo confirmed that it was missing before being unboxed. It was best to return the product back which I did on the same day and obtained a like-for-like replacement2. Second UnboxingBefore unboxing, checked that two quick-release fasteners were there. It was best to return the product back which I did on the same day and obtained a like-for-like replacement2. Second UnboxingBefore unboxing, checked that two quick-release fasteners were there. After inserting the first bolt into the handle, the second bolt did not go in fully into the mower bracket. I even used the first bolt that was inserted on this and it would only go in halfway as well. There was a fault with the threading on the one side. It was decided to return it once again. At this point, I was seriously considering another brand 😓After looking at other brands and models, this product was indeed well-priced for its features.I decided to stay with this brand and model and obtained a like-for-like replacement again. The good folk at Bunnings (Croydon) helped me put together the Ryobi 36V 46cm Lawn Mower at the shop before taking it home.I have used it now a couple of times and I really love the product. The things that stand out are:- Ease of starting- The finished cut of grass looks really good- Less noise than my petrol mower- The product is a great conversational starter with my neighbours 😊I would have given this product a 5-star rating, however, due to the initial issues, it has been given a 4 star rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I've had this mower for about 2 months so far and I have to say that this brings pretty impressive performance for the price. If you're in doubt about Petrol vs Electric, put your fears to rest. This mower is right up there on performance and only the most demanding gardner would want more grunt than what this provides. For your average suburban back yard cut, this will do the job comfortably and reliably. The only thing I can probably pick on is the 4.0Ah battery is comes with. If your block is over around 500Sqm, you will probably need a second charge of the battery to get the job done.Mine is 700Sq and the 4.0Ah battery just doesn't have enough power to do the entire lawn (front and back) in one go and the charger this comes with is fairly slow to recharge. ... If you have a bigger block, consider getting either a 2nd 4.0Ah battery or even a single 6.0Ah+ and use the 4.0Ah it comes with on your other cordless Ryobi 36v tools. This mower is surprisingly light. If you're older and/or not very strong, you'll be delighted how easy this mower is to use and move around. Big thumbs up there. The only other gripe I have is the grass catcher is okay - but not as good as other mowers. I'd say it catches about 60% of the grass you mow reliably, but it could be better I think. But overall, this is a great product for the price. If you are lucky enough to have solar at home, you'll basically run this thing for free when your batteries recharge. The future is here people. Recommended.
I have given a 4 star review and not 5 for 1 reason only. I love the mower but when I tried to register the warranty on the Ryobi website it took 5 days. The problem was that the particular mower was not showing to enter the serial numbers. You can't phone Ryobi you have to do it on line and when you submit a message says you will be contacted shortly but they don't. So I kept trying and eventually the mower was there so I proceeded to enter the serial numbers for the mower, the battery and the charger but the site says there is another battery with a different code but there is only 1 battery for this 36V 46CM 4.0AH KIT so the site rejects the registration as there is no serial number for a battery that does not exist. Back to contact Ryobi on line explaining the problem; again we will contact you is the message but they don't. Eventually I confirmed with Bunnings there is no other battery so the only way to solve the problem was to enter the serial number of the 4.00AH battery in both places and it accepted. what is so wrong is there is no way to point this out to Ryobi as they clearly don't monitor their own site to help customers as they certainly don't contact you. Bunnings were excellent.
first timer with a battery operated mower. I have to say.. impressive. I have lush lawns that don't have many onehunga or thistles anymore.. the clover is back (ex farmers). hubby not allowed to touch this gem.. she's mine. I polish her after everything use. my 20 yr old rover self Propelled retired and only hiccup is that would be great to have mulcher available. what else can I buy that uses this battery? I'm addicted to having more toys lol. lawn takes 45 mins.. Still has enough grunt for neighbours berm
