Salomon Mens Speedcross 6 GTX Black/Black//Phantom / US 10.5

There are only 2 gripes I have about these shoes. The first is the fit: they are about a half size too long- I usually wear a 13 and that is what I ordered. There is almost a half inch of space at the toe, which is a bit more than there should be. The second is the wear on the bottom sole. I have worn them for almost a year and a half, and certainly am not gentle on them, so perhaps that is why the grip wears the way it has. I would wager I have a solid 9 months of wear left on this pair, which is very good, all things considered. The upper and Gore-Tex lining are still intact. These shoes are good on many levels, but not-so-good on several other levels. First the good. They look good. They are super comfortable, and the sinch string in lieu of traditional shoelaces is awesome and slipping them on is fast. (I may never go back to laces again.) And the Speedcross is exceptionally lightweight.But here's the bad. These shoes are advertised as 'waterproof breathable' and with 'excellent grip.' First: These shoes are supposed to be 'Trailrunners' and they are, except for the fact if you ever step on a wet rock, wet tree limb, wet wooden bridge, wet sidewalk... anything wet, these shoes are ice skates. (no it's not just me.) Many friends have reported the same thing. 'Great shoes, but they make my feet stink. I do wash them at least once a week, but as soon as I wear them again, the smell is back. I am a huge salomon fan, boots, shoes, cross country ski boots, you name it, but won't be buying these again.

The fit for these shoes are perfect for me.Basketball also beat up my ankles as a young guy, so my winter hikes also see me wearing a pair of Salomon Cross Hike 2's with their mid boot design to prevent ankle sprains when I'm hiking more steep rocky bits and less trail terrain and want the boot height and stiffer torsion sole but a very similar sole that stands up, grips well and again mud and dust wash right off with all synthetic materials.I have fussy feet and Salomon has given me happy feet again and makes it easy to get the steps and stay really active!
