Great secondary storage for those who didn't get enough in their laptop and can't add more because it's soldered. I have a 1TB drive in my Macbook Pro and I was running
out of space because of how large my photo library has become since I got a full frame camera and have been storing raws and using Lightroom (DMGs are stupid big.) I

I searched "How do I initialize a disk' on-line. Since I am using the SSD with a Windows PC, I followed the on line instructions from Microsoft for the Disk Management option in Windows to first initialize then format the SSD. Once I did that, I was able to see the SSD in File Manager (If you are using the SSD with a MAC OS, you will need to search for how to do that with the MAC OS).I also went to the samsung.com/us/ web site and went to "Manuals & Software' under the "Support" link. Once there, I searched for "MU-PC1T0T". On that page I was able to download the Windows OS software for the SSD (you can also download MAC OS software on the same page). I also downloaded the User Manual for the SSD from the same page. Please note - there appears to be an error on the support page for the T7 SSD. The link for "User Manual" provides the User Manual for the T7 Touch, not the T7. For some reason, the User Manual for the T7 can be accessed using the "Install Guide" link.Anyhow, I hope all the above helps. A better solution would be for Best Buy when they refurb a Samsung T7 SSD to properly inititalize and format the SSD and load the MAC OS and Windows OS software on the drive. They also should at a minimum, load a copy of the User Manual on the drive when they refurbish it or preferably include a hard copy User Manual with the SSD.... Show more

I'm also sure this could be fixed (definitely by disabling security - but what is the point of an unprotected SSD??) or formatting the drive to only have one volume - but that's way beyond my technical capability. I just expect the SSD to work. Incidentally, I don't have any of these problems with Sandisk SSDs.Its funny that's the manufacturers Samsung devices seems to have the most issue with, is other Samsung devices...! It's A No For Me

My husband bought this for me on Saturday (I would have written this under his account but he couldn't remember his password) so I was so excited as I am learning to record videos for YouTube and social media. We watched a few videos about this SSD and even though I was holding off so I could buy at least 2TB, my husband went and purchased this one.I like the feature where I can record video directly to the drive using Pro Res for my iPhone 15 Pro. What I don't like is how much storage it takes and when I try to edit the videos on my Macbook Pro, the size of the videos is way too large for it so it lags.Cannot record directly to the drive if it is not in Pro Res. Any video would have to be recorded on your phone and then transferred onto the drive.Oh, I forgot ... MoreMy husband bought this for me on Saturday (I would have written this under his account but he couldn't remember his password) so I was so excited as I am learning to record videos for YouTube and social media. We watched a few videos about this SSD and even though I was holding off so I could buy at least 2TB, my husband went and purchased this one.I like the feature where I can record video directly to the drive using Pro Res for my iPhone 15 Pro. My past drives I would have to download a driver to transfer files but nothing comes up when I plug it into my phone. The little book they give is absolutely no help. It shows you what cords come with it and where to plug them in. That's all.Went to Samsung's site and again, no help. So finding out the hard way that this drive would not fit my needs. Very disappointing and now I have to deal with a grouchy husband because he feels like he wasted his money and he knows if he returns it, he won't get it all back. He should have listened to me and waited....... Show more

MAC users pay attention! (Need a Windows computer)
25 December 2023
(Mac Mini M2.) You should NOT need another computer, in a wholly different operating system, to make a "plug and play" device like this work. The Samsung T7 still gets 3 stars because it DOES work. The Samsung T7 LOST two stars because of the very un-holiday heartburn it caused me over several days. I bought two other high-speed cables to see if that might correct the problem. (Nope) I ended up moving this drive to a Windows box to see if it would do anything there at all, and -- prang! -- Windows recognized it. Once on the Windows PC, I was able to format it (FAT, not NTFS) and then move the damned T7 back to my Mac.I almost returned this thing, and I was NOT looking forward to arguing with Best Buy about it.... I was actually quite impressed and figured they really did a solid piece of gear here, but be warned, it’s a trap! If you don’t backup your ssd, you may end up with all data lost and no way to recover it.Others here have complained about overheating. For me it wasn’t just that. Losing all my data (just as it was getting full) out of the blue was really upsetting. One would think this tech is beyond HDD, and for speed and simplicity, size, etc it really is. They play hot potato with your call and nothing is ever resolved.I’m at my wits end with this company.Quality should have always been a priority for them but sadly pushing half baked tech is really all they excel at. With the possible exception of oled panels, but even there I’m not 100% convinced I’ll ever trust them again.... Show more

This is the third external one, the others have been internal. Most were 1 TB, one was 500 GB, and this is the first 2TB drive I've bought. All have worked flawlessly. Kudos to Samsung. The only issue I have with any is that the external ones don't play nicely with my OS when I want to access the SMART info. Apparently the interface doesn't pass through the right commands (or so someone on the internet claims). But looking at the SMART info for the older internal ones I have, there is nothing there to suggest that the wear rate is ever going to be a concern for me.I really think Best Buy should ... MoreI've had this for about a week and so far have put about 3/4 of a TB on it.
