Since I have changed my laptop ssd to this Evo 970 plus, my elitebook 840 G5 has some blocks and image affected. After return to the original SSD this problem is gone. I'm not 100% of sure if the problem is from Evo, but once nothing else was changed and the laptop works perfectly without the Evo, for sure the problem is the Evo ssd.

Perfect. I have 2 of them. 1 with the built-in heatsink and the other using my motherboard heatsink. Thermals are exactly the same and both are beasts in all aspects. I also have a 1tb 970 evo pro that has not skipped a beat. I sound like a Samsung rep, while wearing a Samsung watch, using a Samsung phone and have 2 Samsung TVs.. (just realising this now).. Heck not to mention building friends PCs and using Samsung HDDs from long ago. I think I disserve a Christmas gift!Back to this product. Not a single issue and benchmarks exceed most reviews.

Really good. On most cases better than Base980
26 July 2021

Have one in my laptop for more than 4 years.Got 2 in my main rig for more than 1 year.Spec wise these are better than Base 980 over the board. These go on sale for close to AUD 100 most of the time making these great value for money. Most of my collegues run 970 evo plus (1 main + 1 Game drive)We never had issues and do not know why people complain about drives getting 'broken'Have not observed too much temps but at the same time did not watch it actively.Well never had a hiccup until today since 2017 for the first drive so would say it is pretty good.

Ridiculous speed

Fantastic product! Just make sure you have minimum firmware version 1B2QJXD7 using the Samsung magician software. This SSD is the fastest drive I have ever encountered, on a X670E system I can push the rated speed of 7.5GB reads without issue.

Samsung SSD 950 Pro M.2 Warranty issue

December 2015, I acquired one Samsung’s SSD 950 Pro M.2 512GBIt worked great at the specified speeds until a month ago when I purchased their SSD 960 Pro M.2 1TB.The latter required an upgrade to Samsung’s Magician that included an upgrade to its firmware, it further indicated the firmware of the SSD 950 Pro was out of date and also required upgrading. Here’s the rub; while the firmware appears to provide the “S.M.A.R.T.” feature, which works, it also causes issues. In my case the failure of the SSD 950 Pro M.2 512GB. By failure I’m referring to not meeting the specified read/write speeds. For two days, after upgrading the firmware, both worked at the specified speeds and then its performance dropped the Read speed from 2,434 to 837 and the Write speed from 1,512 ... MoreDecember 2015, I acquired one Samsung’s SSD 950 Pro M.2 512GBIt worked great at the specified speeds until a month ago when I purchased their SSD 960 Pro M.2 1TB.The latter required an upgrade to Samsung’s Magician that included an upgrade to its firmware, it further indicated the firmware of the SSD 950 Pro was out of date and also required upgrading. Here’s the rub; while the firmware appears to provide the “S.M.A.R.T.” feature, which works, it also causes issues. Telephoning them ends up to being cut off in the middle of the conversations. Emailing them is not possible. All other attempts in communicating online have failed. While these devices are great just be aware Samsung’s warranty is not what it claims to be! Note; in my case I have to deal with their Canadian representatives…

Seems to be running at half speed, around 3500
8 June 2022

Using an ASUS X570 TUF Gaming Plus (WIFI) AMD AM4 ATX Motherboard with 16GB of 3200 ram and an AMD 5700G processor. The 980 Pro NVMe 4.0 M.2 is in the bottom slot, which is covered with a heat sink and set to 4.0 within the BIOS. Samsung Magician shows the 980 Pro is set to 4X4 but the speed test shows 3500 read/write speeds rather than around the 7000 this drive does in all my other computers. Wondering if I just don't have something set right? I tried in the other M.2 slot that's higher and apparently directly connected to the CPU rather than the chipset and it showed 3x4 in Samsung Magician but speeds were the same. Any help appreciated.

Still trying to install it! Physical sector issue
7 August 2018

Hi, I bought the 970 EVO 512 GB to substitute my Sandisk 120 GB SSD PCIe that originally came with my ASUS ROG GL503 VM. As it has only one PCIe slot I have tried to clone the original Sandisk SSD and literally spent 2 days trying different ways. The main issue seemed to be the Type M slot that the 970 EVO uses which is fairly new and an external USB enclosure was not readily available. I managed to do a partially installation but many shortcuts seemed to be missing and Office was acting up.Eventually I found a Type M enclosure that actually said it was compatible with the 970 EVO so I ordered it, received it in the UK after a couple of weeks and it seems to be working fine... as a very expensive USB pen drive. The problem now is that the USB enclosure (branded "Rongdeson") seems to "fake" the physical sector to be 4Kbp physical sector, which seems to be wrong but I haven't managed to find the spec for this yet. The Sandisk appears to be 512 bp physical sector so no cloning app has allowed the cloning.I will persist but meanwhile can't give any stars or recommend the product yet!I would appreciate any help on this if possible.BestMarcelo

Support Software weak
21 April 2022

This device is working just fine. However, the support software, Magician, is not working as expected. It reports that it is incompatible with the Intel driver, which is delivered by a Windows update. Thus, can't communicate with the device to show temperature and, eventually, the need for firmware update.Samsung did do a poor job on that respect. And, guess what, the only way to update the firmware is via Magician. The art of painting oneself in a corner.

Unable to Migrate
20 May 2020

I just bought this drive, and as I was on Dell Inspiron 7373 laptop with just the one slot, installed the new drive into a USB adapter in preparation for migration and connected it to the USB port. Samsung Migration wouldn't recognize the drive in the USB enclosure. Had to buy and use a third-party migration tool to perform the job. Windows did recognize that there was a SAMSUNG disk in the enclosure, but the migration tool didn't. Did not have this issue earlier with a Crucial disk, though, using a similar setup, using Crucial Migration software. Please review your Migration software. Thanks (hence the 4-stars).
