Just purchased the 2TB Extreme Pro Portable SSD and was happy with the ease of plug and play on my computer with Windows 11. After 1 day of use copying, deleting, reading & writing to and from the drive - with no problems - I attempted - unsuccessfully - to perform an optimize using the MS Windows utility. The utility has worked fine for years on various other WD external storage devices. I was unable to find any comments or suggestions relating to this problem on the Sandisk.com/support site. Still researching. Hope to find an explanation and solution.

Purchased from "Brick and Mortar" store with intent to use with my MAC and Time Machine for back ups. Before opening the package, I did a more in depth study of pros and cons reviews. I was very hesitant to open the product and considered returning to store for refund or exchange for a similar product. I've had nothing but good results from other SanDisk flash drives so I decided to take the chance and opened this box. Plugged it in with the supplied cable and selected Time Machine App on the MAC. Followed the menu options in Time Machine and completed my first backup seamlessly.Happy so far. Performed as expected.

Very quick data transfers for the price (I’m always seeing these guys on great sales. Haven’t had many times the durability was tested but it at least passes many drop tests so far. Great to plug into a shared hub to connect the drive to two pcs to transfer files or to have extra storage on that MacBook where you cheaped out on the storage to save 10x what parts + labor + design would normally cost.

Bought this years ago and just reminded why I haven't used it since. The Vault! I hate it, don't need, and didn't know it was a part of it when I researched and bought it. Can the device be used without going into the vault? I don't know, because the manufacture couldn't provide that detail in instructions. All mentions is setting up the "Vault". Also can't see thumbnails for pics. This is deal breaker All I want is for the device to act like other easier to use backup drives I've owned.
I'm using this for the virtual machines with VirtualBox. I don't feel any improvement in speed, even when resuming saved virtual machine.Size is larger than the predecessor model. Of course, the price is higher, too. Cable is longer and no USB-C adapter therefore you may need to take 2 cables instead of 1. I just don't see a big advantage. However, if you constantly copy files back and forth, newer one may save time a bit. The price difference between 2 models is small enough to consider upgrade. Both models get very hot when using, but newer one may be slightly lower temperature. But it is just my feeling and I hope someone can compare side-by-side thoroughly.
After reading Mark Sparrow's superb Forbes article on how to revive an old computer with the SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD, I ordered the 2TB version from B & H. It was effortless to set up as the new startup and storage disc following widely available YouTube videos on the process, and now my tired old 2015 iMac is blazingly fast in every respect. It was never this fast even right out of the box. Although 1TB seemed enough at the time, I didn't want to take the chance, and now I'm glad that I ordered the 2TB version because in two short weeks, I blew right past 1TB. Another nice feature is that the B & H SanDisk comes with two cables (USC to USC and USB to USB) rather than a converter. And it's so small and lightweight. I bought that disk about year ago for storing data file of FCPX and not be troubled with a speed. Since half year ago, I realized that disk is, somehow, automatically unmounting from Mac or even worse, when I stepped out for a while and come back I have a message about UNCORRECT UNMOUNTING OF DISK and FCPX message, changes can't be saved. Solution is nowhere on forums nor here, I have latest MacOS 12.6 in October 2022 with M1 Silicon and MCB 16" 2021 version with 2T internal storage and 64GB RAM. I believed in Sandisk until now, I had really doubtful experience in Western Digital and that was my last try...
I bought the SanDisk 1TB Extreme Pro to use as a back up drive with Time Machine. Unfortunately, after considerable time spent with Apple support and WD, I was never able to get this drive to work with Time Machine.I then decided to use the SanDisk as a clone drive. I could not get it to work as a clone drive with macOS using Apple Disk Utility. I then tried to use it as a clone drive using Super Duper!, which also did not work. I then tried ChronoSync ... also ends in an error. The physical size, amount of storage and speed of the SanDisk is great; but is of zero value for me as after weeks and weeks of trying I can't get it to work for what I need.
This drive held all of my sound libraries in my mobile studio, so it was only used every so often. Today I found out that it has completely died. While it did work really well during its very short life, not lasting an entire year of only being used a couple of dozen times definitely lands a two star. I treated this drive with the utmost care and protection, it was my favorite SSD that I owned because of its speed. It really bites seeing it not work anymore. This is why it is important to always have multiple back ups of the exact same drive for immediate replacements.
It really is quite amazing to get 2 TB of super fast storage in a format this small and with dust/water protection and without having to worry about a spinning disk. I've only used it a short time, but was able to copy about 1TB of data onto it (from another SSD) at a sustained rate of about 600 MB/s (the other device's limit).Minor gripes (from the perspective of a power user):1) No on/off switch. Means you need to physically disconnect/reconnect the drive if you want to unmount it when you have your machine asleep. I understand a physical switch probably makes dust/water protection more difficult, but I worry about the durability of cheap consumer connections repeatedly being connected/reconnected. (I've had drive connectors break several times over my career, but never an on off/switch...).2) Cable length: 12 inches. Fine for many uses, but if you've got a tower (or even an iMac), the short cable makes connecting/disconnecting repeatedly (see point 1...) and drive placement more problematic. This isn't a cheap device; would it have really killed them to also throw in a 3 ft cable?
