When this product first came out, I ordered two to evaluate. If it worked out well, I would have ordered a dozen of them. However, it was too good to be true.Let's talk about what's good about it:Designed just like the Apple Magic Keyboard. The keys are illuminated. It is able to pair with three devices, so I don't have to have ONE keyboard for each device I am using on my desk. Now, the bad stuff that breaks the deal:Some of the keys don't work consistently. Not all keys have the same feel/travel.The depression on the wider keys feel different when it's made away from the very center.Even with the illumination LED off, the battery operating time falls much shorter than that of Apple's.I had to return them, because as I pound away at 120wpm, I ... MoreWhen this product first came out, I ordered two to evaluate. As it turned out, the character 'o' was not showing up. that made me furious. I scrutinized the 'o' key and noticed that it sounded like gravel (seems to have two clicks, but does not register). Other keys have various degrees of abnormal sound and travel.Would have been perfect, but too good to be true.

I bought this to use with my Macbook Air M1 when connected to external monitor. I did not want to spend a lot of money for apple keyboard and always heard great feedback about satechi products so I wanted to give a try on this. I am glad I did and I could not be happier. I am using my laptop couple hours everyday and it's unbelievable how long lasting battery this device has. I almost never charge this (maybe once every 2 months.) back lit function works great when needed. Keys feel very solid and pleasant to type with. I strongly recommend this product to whom looking for an apple keyboard for a reasonable price.

Updating my review because my X1 no longer consistently holds a charge after just a couple of years. In other words, I pretty much have to keep it plugged in now, which is not what I had in mind when I purchased a BT keyboard. Frustratingly, I was told by Satechi customer support that there’s nothing they can do because I’m out of the 1-year warranty period. On the one hand, I get it: there literally is going to be an end to their support period. On the other hand, a keyboard seems like something that should last more than 1.5-2 years.

Great keyboard for MacMini , iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPhone 12 connects easily and switches between devices almost instantly. Comes with a 100cm USB-C to USB-C cable and two attachable (adhesive stick on) rubber feet to adjust the typing angle.Key press is nice and crisp, back lighting is easily controlled using predefined function key options F5 dims and F6 increases brightness. Other functions brightness for connected device up and down, spotlight search, app switcher ,mute volume up down , rewind play and fast forward for A/V and an eject button for removing USB and drives which is great. Of course you can still set up all 12 function keys as hot keys as well which I have missed so much !!! So good!! Wirelessly with three devices (works on my Sony TV too) but can also be wired at the same time, Satechi endorse this on their user manual. Extremely lightweight and super slim design makes this very portable. Aesthetically it matches apples Magic Trackpad 2 in design but the color is not quite exact, little bit off. So 4/5 stars because its really for Apple enthusiasts and unfortunately priced accordingly, this is essentially a standard wireless keyboard in 2021, nothing extra. For the Apple lover, like me, gaining the functionkeys and matching the aesthetic across all my devices makes this my new favourite keyboard, I would absolutely recommend this as an option for future proofing upcoming Apple releases as purchasing one of these will definitely save you money and it will always have a function within your ecosystem.
I am very happy with this keyboard. I am shocked that Apple did not build the non-keypad keyboard in space gray, but the Satechi version really would pass as an Apple product at first sight. The good:- Has the look and feel of an Apple product- Sturdy yet beautiful aluminum design- Keys feel great and typing is a pleasure- Backlit with multiple levels- Easily switch between multiple bluetooth devices with a single keystroke combination– Battery-chargedMy only complain: No battery level indicator in Apple's bluetooth menu. The battery light blinks in the keyboard when it's time to recharge, but there is no way to know how much charge is left.In summary, a greaat product and a great value for the price.
This is a great keyboard. The design and feel of the keyboard is flawless, on par with a high end Apple product. The battery life of the keyboard is really good when not using the backlight but drains significantly when it is on. The keyboard is smart, however and dims the backlight automatically.I encountered 2 small problems with the keyboard that won't affect most users;1. I have a Mac Mini, it will not connect to the computer at startup when using FileVault (this is not really a design error, it's Apple's fault really) My Magic keyboard doesn't have this issue. Apple must lock out any third party peripherals for security.2. Some of the keys have a limit of how many can be pressed at once, some combinations of keys allow multiple keys to be pressed at once but ... MoreThis is a great keyboard. The design and feel of the keyboard is flawless, on par with a high end Apple product. The battery life of the keyboard is really good when not using the backlight but drains significantly when it is on. The quality of the machining is top class & the functionality is arguably perfect. I haven't used the keyboard with more than one device but the pairing process is extremely easy & fast.I had a small issue with mine but the customer service was amazing.
I want to like this keyboard. I really really like the laptop sized Apple Magic Keyboard. I also regularly switch between 3-5 devices on my desk in one day. So naturally when I saw that this is basically a clone but it will do multiple connections AND offer backlighting, which Apple’s keyboard does not do, I had to have it.Let’s get the good out of the way. Typing feels decent. Key spacing and appearance are nice. The plastic isn’t quite the same as the magic keyboard and the key travel feels different. It feels deeper but somehow not quite as crisp or certain, like there’s a bit of a bounce. Actually, it feels more like the keyboard on Apple’s latest iPad Pro magic keyboard case. It’s not bad, just different. I rarely have any issues with the typing feel on this ... MoreI want to like this keyboard. I really really like the laptop sized Apple Magic Keyboard. It’s not bad, just different. I rarely have any issues with the typing feel on this keyboard. It’s slightly thicker than the Magic Keyboard. Those differences together means it is familiar but does not feel quite the same as the magic keyboard. I was however happy to learn you can definitely use all 3 bluetooth devices and a wired device without having to unplug or switch the thing on and off. You just have to know that while Fn + 1, 2, or 3 switches to bluetooth devices, it’s Fn + Eject to switch to USB.Disappointments: they did not improve on the arrow key layout, they kept the bad layout from the magic keyboard instead of adopting the updated layout on the magic keyboard cover and more recent macbook laptops. That’s disappointing, but, obviously not the end of the world. Also disappointing: the Fn key is not a real key, you can not use it to trigger Siri or other things that do work with the real magic keyboard. And minorly disappointing: the quality of the backlight is similar to older keyboards, not really up to date with the top of the line in this space. Not terrible, and I wouldn’t mention it if not trying to be comprehensive. Now for the problems. About once per week or sometimes more often, they keyboard loses its brains for one or more of my devices and will simply fail to connect at all. I am forced to remove the entry from the computer and pair the keyboard to it again. It happens at the worst moments, I swear, every time. Relatedly, it often takes a very long time to connect particularly to my PC, and even after connecting it can be 10-15 seconds at times before keys pressed begin to register and to make matters worse there, some amount of pressed keys will be remembered. And yet, when it has gone to sleep and disconnected, pressing a key to wake it up is a bad experience compared to the Magic Keyboard. First, waking it up may make it reconnect. Sometimes it doesn’t. But it will never send that key. Once it’s actually connected you can start to type, but, when you look at this and factor in the possible delayed, buffered input you can see how initial interactions with a system are really unsatisfying, leading to unpredictable text entry or half passwords or whatever. It sucks at this.Generally speaking this keyboard is usually okay if you are continuously working with it and are not connecting to Windows PCs.OH one last thing, it is not compatible with Sony Playstation 4 Pro. I have no idea why, maybe i shouldn’t expect it to be, but, I was quite disappointed about that. It will work wired but not wirelessly.
Aesthetically, the product is very nice and the manufacturing materials seem of very good quality, however, the electronic functioning has many flaws. The keyboard bluetooth disconnects itself, sometimes it just stops working and needs to be reconnected. On the other hand, the battery drains very quickly and does not last as long as it is supposed to. Regarding the response of the keyboard, it is very slow, I am used to the apple keyboard that has an immediate response, however, when you type on this keyboard it can take a long time to respond. It is a shame because it is a product that has a lot of potential but honestly, I am going to sell it and buy another Apple keyboard.
This thing is terrible! At first I thought the negative reviews on it were of people just being negative nancys but nope, this keyboard is by far the worst keyboard I've ever owned in my whole life! The keys don't do anything when you press them. It's very laggy. You press a key and if you're lucky to even get anything typed in it might take like 30 seconds for something to appear, and sometimes it'll type it a million times. This keyboard is brain dead , seriously. I wish I would of returned it when I was within my return period. What a waste of money... I don't even want to give it 1 star but unfortunately I'm not given the option to rate it 0 stars... The only good use I'll have for this piece of trash is to use it as a frisbee with my dog...
Its a very expensive keyboard for what you get.The keys are mushy and don't feel really well, the feet are uneven (at least on my unit) so when you type it keeps tilting constantly, very annoying. Also they made a few very questionable choices in the layout, Like moving down the delete key and moving the ctrl key in 2 keys that you use very often which you need to get new muscle memory to be able to use effectively, more cumbersome than that is the fact that because they're in a secondary place more often than not you're hitting keys you don't want to hit for task that you rely on second nature, like ctl c / ctrl v, now every time i need to do such operations means i need to look at the keyboard.on top of that, the backlighting is pretty bad, almost doesn't go ... MoreIts a very expensive keyboard for what you get.The keys are mushy and don't feel really well, the feet are uneven (at least on my unit) so when you type it keeps tilting constantly, very annoying. Also they made a few very questionable choices in the layout, Like moving down the delete key and moving the ctrl key in 2 keys that you use very often which you need to get new muscle memory to be able to use effectively, more cumbersome than that is the fact that because they're in a secondary place more often than not you're hitting keys you don't want to hit for task that you rely on second nature, like ctl c / ctrl v, now every time i need to do such operations means i need to look at the keyboard.on top of that, the backlighting is pretty bad, almost doesn't go through the keys, turns off while you're using it, and actually you see more light in the edges of each keys than where you should see it in the keys themselves.cant wait to sell it and see if i can get some of my money back because, if you had to pay import fees (like i did to bring it to Canada) then you'll lose that money too.
