For treks that keep you on your feet (and maybe under a heavy pack) for days at a time, the Scarpa Women's Kailash Trek GTX Hiking Boot makes the venture a little easier. The suede upper is flexible so your foot doesn't feel restricted, and underneath it has a Gore-Tex lining to keep water out but let air flow. The Kailash Trek has an outsole of Vibram rubber that is specifically designed to grip the trail as conditions change. A Comfort Flex Plus insole sits under your foot, absorbing impact, promoting proper alignment, and providing support as you hike.

A great boot in theory . . .

Similarly, these boots felt good at home. I first tested them on a short overnight backpack trip (about 10kms each way) and noted-to-self that the boot soles were a bit hard. Then, I took them on another longer backpacking trip, and the soles of my feet ached in ways I'd never experienced. I had another trip planned right away, so in preparation I bought two pairs of cushy insoles to try to mitigate the aching. This helped, but by the end of 5 days I was concerned I was doing some kind of nerve damage, my feet ached so badly. A shame, as they are nice light boots and I had no issues with blisters. I may have to save them for steep day-hikes and find something else for backpacking.

This is advertised as a hiking boot… but this should be advertised as a field boot! Great ankle support, flexible, breathable, highly water resistant, great sole grip and a lovely toe protector on the outside. This will sustain you for a long time, and well, for your long hours outside working.I do want to make a comment about the toe protector and what can happen when hiking. If you stub your toe/trip repeatedly (the tip of the sole is slightly slanted, which is a great feature b it can increase tripping), it is possible that you can injure your toes. So if you are prone to tripping when you are tired, or are going to be in really inconsistent terrane, make sure you bring a toe protector. Even it’s leather or an off-type of leather, you need to upkeep your boots with products about a year into using them. I’ve worked in pouring rain all day and never had any issues…This is really a 10/10 boot, at least for me as a hiker/geologist.

I bought these boots a few months ago prior to a trip to Ireland where I had planned an 110km hike. They felt great in the store and on shorter hikes/walks around home but after my first 20km day my feet were fairly sore. Each day after that the discomfort got worse to the point of agony by the 4th day. I tried different socks and different lacing but in the end I had to end my hike two days early. When I returned to Canada I tried the boots again on a 12km hike that I have done several times in other boots and again total agony. The location and degree of the pain was unlike anything I have experienced before. It's disappointing as the boots were expensive.

Good boot, but price hike is unfortunate
4 May 2023

I love these boots. Love love these boots! These are my fifth pair over more than a decade of hiking, including over 10,000km of thru-hiking. What I no longer love is the price -- it's gone up almost $100 over the last year alone, and had a significant price jump the year before as well. It's making me reconsider my next purchase.Price aside -- these are a solid boot, good support, good soles, and stand up to rugged trail conditions.

Great, but feet sore on longer hikes
13 August 2018

Bought these right before spending a month and a half doing all kinds of hikes in the Yukon. They were recommended to me because they are less stiff than traditional hiking boots, so they would work well for shorter day hikes as well as long multi-day hikes. Didn't break them in and had no problems with blisters. They kept my feet reasonably dry walking through snow, and heavy rain. They protected my feet from rocks and roots and everything else. I found them to be great for shorter hikes, but upwards of around 8-10 km hikes my feet would be quite sore..like cramping almost, and would remain sore and stiff the next couple days. Same thing when I did a short 2-nighter in Strathcona. I know it's the boots because I have done many multi-day hikes with many kms and have ... MoreBought these right before spending a month and a half doing all kinds of hikes in the Yukon. It's really too bad because I loved them other than this fact..but I know I could not do the WCT in them because my feet would be too sore.

Poor construction
6 September 2023

I bought these boots late winter of 2022. In less than a year every single seam on the inside of both boots blew apart. I exchanged them with MEC within the year and now, in less than eight months, the same thing has happened again. Every other hiking boot I've owned lasted for 4+ years, but the current iteration of these boots are not well made. Seams that should be bullet proof (top of the boot nowhere near scree) are blowing. This is a shame because the boot is otherwise comfortable for mid distance hikes. That being said - I cannot hike longer days in them because like other reviewers have noted, they make the soles of my feet feel incredibly painful. In conclusion, I do not know why I still own these.

Really wanted to like these boots :(
15 November 2020

Unfortunately I had the exact same experience as Jean2 described. They felt great in the store and walking around at home to test them out - super supportive and zero rubbing. However, once I was out on the trail after a couple of hours the balls of my feet and toes were in agony - like someone was sticking a knife into a nerve. I spent an additional $70 or so trying different insoles to make these work for me, as well as different lacing tightness, but no joy, same thing every time. I was really disappointed, loved the look and general feel, it was just the ball of the foot issue for me. Ended up giving them to a family member who hikes shorter distances...

Scarpa Kailash Trek hiking boots
1 August 2024

These are good looking boots that run true to size with excellent grip provided by the vibram sole; however Scarpa has changed their design in two significant areas since the last time I bought their boots. 1) the tongue is much beefier at the top which causes it to bulge out above the lacing, allowing debris to enter and getting in the way of pant legs. 2) Scarpa uses a hook style loop instead of an eyelet for securing the last lacing at the top of the foot before moving up to the ankle. This hardware choice means (at least for me) that the laces are constantly being pulled out of these hooks due to any rough movement, such as scraping against rock or small branches. I find that I can't wear these boots with confidence unless I pair them with gators.

Soles fell off.
2 December 2023

I purchased these boots early 2021 (to replace a pair of 20yo Raichle). I recently took them to the Grampians and in the middle of a walk one of the soles completely detached. They had barely been worn (due to COVID) - day hikes and 6 days on the Overland Track. They were comfortable right from the box, but obviously a manufacturing issue.I took them back but they were past the 2 year warranty, so a big waste of money for probably total 20 days wear. My old Raichles did the same thing, but I'd had them for 20 YEARS.

I love love love Scarpa's Kailash Trek boots. I'm now on my third pair, having hiked rugged mountain trails up and down the Pacific North West, and most recently logging over 5000km on The Great Trail from BC to Ontario.Things I love about them:- Wide toe box -- I have massive bunions and need a wide toe. These boots fit the bill.- Solid, minimally flexible sole. Less flex in the sole = less wear and tear on the toe joints, which means less pain for folks with bunions, arthritis, etc.- Waterproofing holds up- Good breathability- No blisters! The inner material is durable but smooth, so the boots fit like a glove from the first wear and there isn't any blister-producing rubbing.
