Best bug net for the claustrophobic

I am very claustrophobic which has caused some difficulty with finding hammock setups that work for me. I bought this to see if this would help solve the issue and it's fantastic - I don't feel like the netting is closing in on me at all. It's also nice and lightweight compared to a lot of bug nets out there. Also, I was a little concerned about this fitting my 11' Dutchware netless hammock since it's made for a Sea to Summit set up (which I think it 9.5'), but it fits great. There's just a couple inches on one side of the hammock where the hammock goes through the end of the bug net (not enough to put any stretch/pressure on the opening at the end of the net). The small gap can be easily closed off to bugs getting in by putting the hammock stuff sack over that end ... MoreI am very claustrophobic which has caused some difficulty with finding hammock setups that work for me. I'm not sure the bug net would fit as well if I didn't have a structural ridgeline that is controlling the length of the hammock when hung though - so something to keep in mind if you have an 11' hammock.

Compact and functional, but got torn up in the wind

I love how light and compact this product is, and how easy it was to set up. It worked very well the first couple of nights that I used it. However, there was one night that the wind picked up. By the time, I woke up, the little metal rod that goes across the top had popped out of place and torn huge holes in the netting. If it's windy, I would recommend removing that rod.

Gone are the days of having to worry about ill-fitting bug nets, or worse, no bug net at all while you hammock camp. This bug net offers great visibility, ease of use, and packs down pretty small and light. Also compatible with pretty much every hammock on the market, so you don't even need a Sea to Summit hammock to get one (but you should get an StS hammock if you can, they're great).

Super lightweight and easy to set up. Looking forward to using it for some solo camping I have coming up.

Light and mostly a big barrier
5 August 2018

To be honest I really did like this mosquito net. It was light, compactible, and for the most part bug resistant. The biggest drawback to the net are the sides where the net rests against the hammock. My 5 day bike camping trip turned into a bit of a nightmare when my right side turned into what looked like the worst case of chicken pox I've ever seen. The net was resting against the hammock and the mosquitos were still able to get to me, and from the looks of it, had the finest feast they'll have in their short pathetic lives. The warning here is you have to keep adjusting the tension of your hammock and net throughout the night to not become a Golden Corral for bugs. Until I accidentally burnt a hole in my Eno DX bug net smoking a righteous bowl last fall, I never ... MoreTo be honest I really did like this mosquito net. Until I accidentally burnt a hole in my Eno DX bug net smoking a righteous bowl last fall, I never had an issue. My recommendation/2 cents is spend the extra $5-10 more and get the DX bug net. It's a little heavier but the expansion bar is wider and it has 2 entrance zippers instead of 1 - plus it keeps you from being dinner if you don't want to sweat your balls off with a hammock quilt. Cheers!

Love this bug net
11 May 2019

I'm claustrophobic and this bug net is fantastic for me; I don't feel closed in at all in it (which is a problem for me with other bug nets and all-in-one hammocks). I also was able to put my 11' hammock (with structural ridgeline) in this bug net with only about a 2" overlap on the one side which doesn't affect it's usability - I just don't cinch that one side of the bug net and it fits great!

Over- engineered
15 June 2019

Wow. . . did I really spend $70 on this? Stuff sack is the first to fail. Ultra light weight makes the netting very breathable but fragile. Spreader bar is close to useless in application and can make it difficult to get in and out of in the dark when it's not close to level but don't worry that will fail or get lost soon enough. Over engineered and expensive for what it is. There are simpler and more durable designs that are worth your attention. This one's a loaner. . . .

You may think you don't need it, until the wind stops or changes from land to sea, then you will realize how useful this net is.

Spacious, easy to use, and light!

This is my first time owning a hammock bug net, and I must say I'm incredibly happy with this purchase. I used it on a 3 night backpacking trip with the eno doublenest.Every negative thing I read on reviews for different hammock bug nets didn't apply to this bug net. The net is definitely long enough to span the entire hammock and more. The ends tighten together well, leaving no holes for mosquitos to get in at the ends. Additionally the hammock has cords you can tighten to pull the net higher away from your face, so it definitely gets the space above you so the hammock isn't right in your face.I really enjoy that there isn't a ridge down the middle, so you do get a nice uninterrupted view of the sky. Cherry on the top is that this looks to be one of the lightest bug nets offered at REI currently. My friend who joined me on the trip bought a different brand and definitely regretted not getting the same bug net as me.

The whole process of putting the hammock withe bugnet was intuitive. Very unlike other bugnets i have used in the past. I love it!
